am being calm but every so often panic strikes me - ds is fine about it, it's just me fretting about roads to cross/ money for the canteen - will it get lost/stolen, what about the lockers, arghhh ! Plus,as with the beginning of every term,I'll miss him - I love having him here in the holidays !
It also means that I have no excuses not to sit at my desk and work on the job I'm meant to finish by the end of Seot...

roisin you may find that he will enjoy taking the earlier bus. Mine love to get a lift with dh so that they're at school about half an hour early. They have so many activities during their lunch breaks that before school is their main chance to socialise with friends.

bellavita · 03/09/2008 08:51

roisin - good idea about photocopying the timetable. DS1 had to take a prit stick yesterday so he could stick his in the back of his new planner (but planners can be mislaid)!

Will be photocopying tonight!

bellavita · 03/09/2008 15:45

have you seen this?

will affect our kids going into Yr7, so DS1 will leave at 17 and DS2 when he gets there will leave at 18.

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/09/2008 17:52

yes, heard about it on the radio today...

Let us know how it goes with ds.

Ds1 bounded in the door again tonight and announced he was in the top set for maths (I had a proud mum moment), funny thing is though, he hates maths .

He then proceeded to eat three (yes 3) platefuls of curry and rice and then said he would have some eggy bread if there was any left (made some for Ds2) and ate two slices!

Only downside is, he fell at school - he was running to catch up with his friends and tripped , went sprawling and has just about made a hole in his new school trousers .

Good luck for tomorrow.

magentadreamer · 04/09/2008 07:08

Hope all goes well for your DS today MAS

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/09/2008 11:30

thank you !! he went off ok, bit nervous...took a pic of him in new uniform - I put him in school polo shirt which they are allowed to wear if they like in September (summer uniform option) but the 2 boys who walked with him were in shirt and ties..hope that'll be ok - thought the polo shirt would be good if it's warm (ha ! I froze this morning) and be less formal so he'd feel comfortable - have doubled checked uniform requirements and it says they can wear either, but...

Ooohhhh it was awful! Really awful. And mostly my fault. DS#1 was so looking forward to starting - couldn't wait. First time he's ever been happy about going to school. Kept trying on his uniform. Last night I wanted to trim his fringe - he has long hair and he was doing a shetland pony impression - and I ballsed it up completely. I cried (am suffering from PND from hell if not something worse) and he cried, then tried to tell me not to worry it wasn't my fault . I couldn't sleep for worrying. This morning he got up and dressed and was fine until he looked in the mirror before leaving and got upset. To make matters worse his mate was supposed to walk with him but ended up going without him - failure in communications - so I had to drive him there and he walked in alone. Looking so little and worried. Oh god what a f* up!!! I hate myself!

I just want to cry and curl up somewhere. Sometimes I am just a complete waste of space. How I managed to spoil something that he's been so excited about.

Thanks Batters.

I don't know. Not sure he'll want to do much with me TBH. Hope he didn't get teased about his hair. I've done it many times before and it's been fine - don't know why I messed it up this time.

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/09/2008 14:12

oh orm try not to fret- am sure he won't be teased - it's just such an emotional time - please don't be hard on yourself...give yourselves a little treat together after schoolxxx
bellavita , forgot to say, poor ds and his tumble

Hi ladies any news yet?

MAS - thank you

OrmIrian - he will be ok, he will be so busy making new friends he will have forgotten all about his hair.

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/09/2008 17:01

well ds is back safely and seems ok..not leaping about with joy but playing happily in other room.He only ate garlic bread for lunch because he didn't know what to choose in the canteen apparently and he didn't go to the loo
He asked me whether I think he'll make new friends so I said I'm sure he will,if he is friendly and chats with others - he is quite shy and quiet asnd isn't a boy to push himself forward..am trying to play it cool and not pester him for info or nag him about eating proper lunch and making time to wee.

MAS I hope you enjoyed your coffee outing this morning

DS1 has come home tired and tetchy (with yet more homework - got some yesterday too!). He has asked for a headache tablet. I think he has enjoyed today but the tiredness was bound to happen - god knows what he will be like tomorrow evening .

Well, at least your DS ate something - even if only garlic bread. As for going to the loo has he not drunk anything today?

I think he is being a bit hard on himself re the friends, come middle of next week it will be a different story.

magentadreamer · 04/09/2008 17:54

MAS I'm sure he'll soon make friends. DD is quite shy and already shes mentioning different names in the after schools chats we've had.

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/09/2008 17:59

thanks you two - am sure he'll settle and make new pals..he has a friend from old school in his tutor group and his best friend is already there in yr 8. His water bottle was untouched too ! Hope he sorts himself out soon

oh and coffee with friend was lovely - we hadn't seen each other all holiday so we had a lovely catch up and two lattes each !

OP posts:
bellavita · 04/09/2008 18:04

mmmm lattes are my favourite! (skinny ones of course )

SorenLorensen · 04/09/2008 19:53

Ds1 back home safe and happy - he had a good day. He has his timetable - it's a two week one so will take some getting used to - but today they spent most of the day in their form group and just had two lessons (history and drama - he has history homework, but only a bit and not in til Monday). He had a jacket potato and beans for his lunch.

I did feel a pang as I saw him off this morning - he's quite tall but managed to look small and new in his pristine uniform (that won't last long...)

Orm - don't be so hard on yourself - one day he will look back and laugh about it - I hope his day went well despite the haircut.

And MAS - he'll get the hang of it in no time, I'm sure (I forgot to ask ds1 if he went to the loo - I thought after he'd gone this morning "oh...they won't tell them to go to the toilet like they do at primary...I should have reminded him" and then I thought...time to let him find his own feet a bit )

bellavita · 04/09/2008 19:59

next thing to worry about - which I am sure will come round in no time (DS1 already talked about it ) what kind of transport is to be booked for their leaving prom - we had stretch hummers here in our street in July!

Better get saving now girls as they cost a fortune!

magentadreamer · 04/09/2008 20:09

makes note to open the prom fund account

DD finally got to do a real experiment in science today -she was absolutely thrilled to use a bunsen burner! Prior to the experiement they had the Health and safety talk. When asked "why do you need to wear goggles" Dd put up her hand and said "so we don't make more work for my Mum" - I work in an eye clinic

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/09/2008 21:02

magenta !
Glad your ds had a good day Soren - and proper lunch too
Have shown ds the loos on the map and told him to make sure he goes whenever he can..

I forgot to mention before that DD1 had her first day at secondary school today as well, as an English teacher - she had inset days on Tue & Wed and today was the Real Thing.

She has a Y8 form but said she would have loved to have a Y7 one, as she has been given the letters that all her Y8s wrote in Y6 before they started at this school - they are all so sweet & innocent - Y8s are still quite sweet & innocent, but not the same!

Glad all your starters have enjoyed their first day/s & Orm, I hope your boy managed to turn his interesting haircut into an icebreaker

SorenLorensen · 04/09/2008 21:45

Did you fret all day and watch the clock too, Wendy ?
