N London 6th form offers

Barnsleybonuz · 20/02/2026 09:23

Does anyone know when the North London state school offers for 6th forms are likely to come out?

we have applied to Woodhouse, Fortismere, APS and Camden.

Would be lovely to have some idea of if we are going to have any offers prior to getting deep into revision and exam territory. None of them seem to have designated offer days

DC has applied to Woodhouse and CSG from those and I know they're April.

Stowickthevast · 21/02/2026 08:33

I think they all generally offer in April. The grammars may be earlier.

Dd went to an interview at LAE, where they told her they get 4,000 applications, interview 2,000 and then offer half again for 400 places. The mind boggles.

Barnsleybonuz · 21/02/2026 08:59

Thank you both. It’s the waiting that’s so painful. It feels like we are in limbo as he really doesn’t want to stay at his current school

DD has applied to Woodhouse and Camden out of yours (plus others).
Regarding other schools, she had an interview at one sixth form just before half term and has been told she will hear back probably end of March. But she has had one offer from a school which is a less popular school and has lower entry requirements.

APS have written to DS and told him to be there in person on a day in August after they get their results - we are away that day. Seriously do not like that school’s attitude!

He’s likely to get lots of 9’s. So fuck them frankly!

Hoping he gets Woodhouse 🤞🤞🤞

Thesoundofmusic23 · 22/02/2026 21:37

All competitive sixth forms will expect them to be there in person on gcse results day. Your DC may miss out on his first choice or miss out on his preferred study options/ subjects if they are oversubscribed.

You can hold several offers for sixth form but can only take one so they all over offer and have a system on the day for first come first served or whatever their internal system is. But most are a pretty blunt tool regardless of how many 9s you have I’m sorry to say.

Stowickthevast · 23/02/2026 08:00

Yes I think if you're planning on moving school, it's quite important to be around on results day. Also a bit of a rite of passage picking up the envelope with your friends.

I think it's standard for 6th forms to say you have to be there on results day. Was the case for all the 6th forms DD applied to. She got her grades and got her first choice but it was still stressful on the day.

FakeTwix · 23/02/2026 08:19

We are nowhere near London and schools are not particularly competitive or oversubscribed but we have been told that they have to be present on the day with their results to enrol for 6th form....

We are also likely to have very impressive results too but the requirement to turn up with your envelope in hand to enrol seems to be absolutely standard.

Melarus · 23/02/2026 08:22

This is news to me. We're planning a holiday for August, and DS has tickets for Reading festival. What happens if you're away?

(His first choice is LASwap, does anyone have experience of that one?)

I am not sure. I imagine it does happen and you won't be the first.

But, all the open eves we went to and the interviews we have been to made this exact point. You are expected to collect your results from your current school, then attend where you hope to attend with your results envelope to enrol.

We have booked our flights for the 22nd for this reason.

I thought the envelope thing had passed. I’ve got my third one doing GCSE’s and they get the results online and the only people allowed on school premises are those who might need to discuss whether they are going to be allowed back for 6th form and the school contacts them to invite them in. Same with A level results

we are around though, I wouldn’t book to be away within the week after results as I know moving schools could present all sorts of challenges if any change needs to be made

You don't go away for gcse results day on y11, nor a level results day in y13. It's always been wise to be around.

Not here.

All our local high schools are open with dc going in to collect paper results.

And they are much more over subscribed since VAT on private schools.

Thanks. Gosh. No one ever mentioned this to me. We may have to completely rejig our summer plans 😔

You'd think in this day & age, where you can hardly even pay a bill or buy a ticket or make an appointment unless you do it online, they'd figure out a way to let the kids accept their sixth form places without scuppering their families' holidays ..... (rant over)

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 23/02/2026 10:50

Absolutely do not go away on GCSE results day unless you are planning on staying at same school and are sure they will get the results needed.

If you're applying externally, especially in London then it's military operation time. I know parents last year who had one waiting at new school while other went with child to collect results and then get them down to the gates of the other as fast as possible.

DD's secondary had over 2k applications for 40 external places.

Yep. LaSWAP expect you to be there on results day too.

You've got the rest of the summer to go away!

Stowickthevast · 23/02/2026 10:58

@Melarus I thought LaSwap were a bit more relaxed about it.

The LAEs definitely expect you to be there but a friend's kid was fine with LaSwap as she got the necessary grades. But another friend didn't get the grades in their chosen subjects so had to go in to negotiate which courses they could do with what they had. LaSwap seems to fill the places they have and then offer places in other courses where there is still room to people with lower grades. Purely anecdotal but what I've seen in my friends' kids - a lot of LaSwap attendees where we live!

Stowickthevast · 23/02/2026 10:59

Also Reading is the weekend after - 26th I believe.

Barnsleybonuz · 23/02/2026 11:02

Could someone explain to me as if I am stupid the process:

Hopefully in the next few weeks DS gets some conditional offers and we can accept as many as we like as no money is involved

i need to be in London on results day. I will be anyway so that’s fine

DS gets his GCSE results from his current school and then has to go down, the same day to his preferred 6th form with his results and accept his place and hope that someone hasn’t beaten him to it?

is that right? It’s not like university where you get an email and click confirm?

is that really the case for all the N London schools?

Yes, that's exactly right.

FakeTwix · 23/02/2026 11:35

It's not lime university at all. Mostly because because there is no 'UCAS' coordinating it all.

You could apply to 10 different 6th forms and have no intention of taking a place at any of them - how can they know? None of them have any coordinated collaboration or way of checking where you have applied, for what subjects or how likely you are to go to each.

Must be a nightmare for them too

I’m aware it’s not co-ordinated. What I didn’t know is that you’re expected to go down in person. I assumed the school sent you an email asking for your results to be emailed over and then they sent you a confirmed offer which you accepted or rejected.
