N London 6th form offers

Barnsleybonuz · 20/02/2026 09:23

Does anyone know when the North London state school offers for 6th forms are likely to come out?

we have applied to Woodhouse, Fortismere, APS and Camden.

Would be lovely to have some idea of if we are going to have any offers prior to getting deep into revision and exam territory. None of them seem to have designated offer days

You've got the rest of the summer to go away!

Sure, I can still make it work. It's just frustrating that in an era when practically everything else is done online – even things you'd rather do in person – they can't arrange for this to be done online as well. Such is life I supppose.

Melarus · 23/02/2026 11:45

Thanks @Stowickthevast, that's helpful. DS got good mock results so he may be OK – I was planning to get back from holiday on the 23rd. But I'll email them and ask just to be safe.

Agreed.

It feels lime there needs to be an admission coordination system or you pay a deposit or something to make it all less vague.

Stowickthevast · 23/02/2026 21:33

A deposit could be unfair for lower income households.

All of the ones except Woodhouse that dd applied for were on the Applica system and you had to give them a ranking, which I read is illegal on another thread. So I guess they have a vague idea based on rankings. But I did know a couple of kids last year that held on to multiple places for a couple of weeks while they decided.

I think it's easier to do that at the bigger schools like LaSwap, but places like the LAEs want you to confirm definitely as they have a waiting list and limited places.

I know that's why they can't do it but the lack of any sort of system leaves a lot of guesswork.

None of the 6 th form offerings around us are linked in any way so DC are asked if they have applied elsewhere at interview but I can't think that everyone is honest or accurate. Must be a nightmare to organise.

It’s like a crazy Wild West, isn’t it? My understanding is that you have to be around on results day and there’s a mad rush to the most competitive colleges to enrol. But I’m hoping after then they aren’t needed until 1/2 Sep. I think it was Woodhouse that seems to have induction day on 1 Sep. So I’m hoping we can go away from Friday 21st to Mon 31st. I can’t take time off the first half of August, we have plans the last weekend of July and we have a younger child at school, so that’s our only slot to go away!

I agree it must be super hard for colleges to plan when people can hold multiple offers. My DS is hoping for LAET, and if not that then LaSwap, Woodhouse, maybe Mossbourne. His school doesn’t have a sixth form so he has to go somewhere else! He does have an offer from our local sixth form college already though.

Exactly. If you have a place already then you can just confirm on email, assuming you get the grades - but still wise to be around in case you don't get their grades. But if you don't have a pre GCSE results day offer then it's a scramble.

user1471463696 · 23/02/2026 22:53

I will have this next year. What I don’t understand is, what if you go to your first choice college and all the places have been filled? Do you then have to go round to your second, third choice - won’t they already be filled too?

Some schools ask you to be around that week. Two of my DS choices (north London) have said that you need to be around on 27-28 August. Though one sounds more flexible than the other.

Are you external or internal candidate for La swap? You seem to have much more leeway if internal.

Melarus · 24/02/2026 08:16

External sadly. I've emailed them and will let you know what they say

Stowickthevast · 24/02/2026 08:17

@user1471463696 I think you need to have a couple of back ups with lower grades. It sounds crazily competitive but the reality as far as I can tell is that most kids seem to get the school they want, as long as they have the required grades. Not many of the schools where I live have 6th forms so nearly everyone leaves the borough. Remember everyone is applying for multiple schools, so one person's number one won't be the same as someone else's.

For example my Dd has applied to similar schools to @Wincher but she'd probably rank CGS first, then LaSwap, then LAET/ Woodhouse.

Doobiesista · 24/02/2026 12:42

Barnsleybonuz · 23/02/2026 11:02

Could someone explain to me as if I am stupid the process:

Hopefully in the next few weeks DS gets some conditional offers and we can accept as many as we like as no money is involved

i need to be in London on results day. I will be anyway so that’s fine

DS gets his GCSE results from his current school and then has to go down, the same day to his preferred 6th form with his results and accept his place and hope that someone hasn’t beaten him to it?

is that right? It’s not like university where you get an email and click confirm?

is that really the case for all the N London schools?

This is not my understanding at all. Not all schools expect you to be there. We are also in N London with my son hoping to move schools for sixth form. We are also waiting on an offer from Woodhouse and Dame Alice owens. His current school send the GCSE results on email and say that either you just accept your place online or they will call to discuss options if grades aren't met. Woodhouse also do everything online. From the Woodhouse website 'All offer holders and waiting list applicants, together with their parent / carers, will be sent a link via email, detailing full instructions on how to register once the examination results have been received'. If they accept a place they have to go in the following week with ID to register. We won't be in the country on August 20th and don't anticipate any issues. Anything we need to do can be done online/telephone. Perhaps just check the requirements for each of the schools that you are applying for.

I’m fairly confident we are local to each other - wonder if we know each other!

The issue is if your child doesn't get the grades for the sixth forms they have offers for (Woodhouse I think is an average of 6s and 7s in your A level subjects) and you're looking round for others, which you might want to visit or they might want to interview you. Yes, if you have a guaranteed place and get the grades then no need to be here. But if any chance there might be changes.....

Yes that makes sense. We're not worried about him not getting the grades he needs to stay put which would be his backup.

Anyone heard anything yet?

It was a no from LAES here. Offer from LaSwap. Still waiting for LAET and Woodhouse (I believe they are due to give offers next week).

I thought Woodhouse was more likely to be end of April. I’m not confident of getting an offer but would be good to know. I was hoping we would hear from Fortismere by the end of this week but it’s Thursday now so looks like slipping into next term. Would just love to know so they can go into gcse revision with offers in hand

We got a conditional yes from LASwap and Stokey. LASwap told me that if DS's results were good, he wouldn't need to be there in person to accept the offer.
Good luck to everyone ...

It might be LAET next week - it was one or the other!

Also got offer from Latymer today.

elkiedee · 27/03/2026 21:35

3 years ago DS1 applied and got offers from 5 places and dithered between APS and Woodhouse until the last minute. He actually went to the 1st days at Woodhouse on Friday and Alexandra Park School on Monday, plumped for APS. He then thought he might have made the wrong decision and Wednesday of the 1st week he rang Woodhouse to ask if he could go there. They would have taken him to do his choices without Further Maths but the FM group was full, and I said at that point that, while I'd hoped he would choose Woodhouse, as he already knew he wanted to do Maths at University, being able to do Maths and Further Maths was a deal breaker. It all turned out fine, though he did regret going to a school based 6th form and wished he'd chosen a college course.

Woodhouse had online enrolment but I do know of a friend's son 3 years before who'd slightly missed his grades including a 7 for History - he went to visit Woodhouse where he'd missed an offer and another school he'd not initially applied to, had an offer for the latter and Woodhouse kept him waiting a few more days before accepting him. That's when it's important to be around.

Barnsleybonuz · 27/03/2026 21:40

Apparently Fortismere have made some offers, we haven’t heard anything and the application still says pending, I’m getting really frustrated. It’s our first choice, his report was great and predicted grades are all 8’s and 7’s apart from one 4.

OP posts:
Stowickthevast · 28/03/2026 08:56

We've got offers from La Swap, St Marylebones and Mary Magdalene. A no from LAES here too, though Dd's bestie who lives nearby was accepted - she does have nine 9s predictions, so the standard is obviously very high.

Congratulations on Latymer @Wincher . DD is there at the moment and may well stay, it's a really lovely school. The only reason she's thinking of leaving is friends possibly leaving, and wanting to be in a slightly nicer part of town!

My friend's DC received an offer from Fortismere in February (she is an external candidate). Are you sure it hasn't gone to spam or something? I'm not sure what date she got it but it was before 13th Feb as I saw my friend then and we were discussing it.
