Name changed obviously.

Any experience with school refusal? Mine didn't go in today. It's not looking like tomorrow is happening either.

Friendship issues that seemed to come out the blue but in hindsight it may have been going on for a while.

School have offered up a plan. I can't even get them out of bed or to talk to me at the moment.

There's an EBSA thread on here. I'll try to find it.

My daughter in year 10, had school refused on and off since year 8
She has ASD and has had issues with friends and teachers over the years
we are finally on a even keel and all seems ok for now

From what I'm read a lot if not the vast majority of these girls have some sort of diagnosis and it's making me wonder about mine.

@Lisamummy22girlsIm glad it's sorted itself out. What would you say helped most in the early days?

Edited

My daughter lacks trust and thinks people (teachers) are out to make things harder, she does thankfully have a few teachers she likes and trusts
Our school are excellent, they have a wellbeing team who have been brilliant

Starting year 10 has made a massive difference, dropping subjects she didn't enjoy, feeling more grown up and being listened too

irs not perfect, we have had tears a couple of mornings but so far in year 10 we have had no refusal and almost perfect attendance

Mine has issues with teachers. Always has but only the ones who threaten "if you don't do this we'll call your parents" "quiet or you'll get a negative".

So she went in today with plans in place. There was a wobble at the gate but she went. Fingers crossed for when I pick her up later.

I hope today goes well.

Would DD join any extra-curricular clubs (both in and out of school)? This might help her meet other peers?

Is there somewhere/someone DD can go to at school if things get too much? Do they have a club at lunchtime for those who might be struggling?

Fedupofthisgame · 20/01/2026 14:46

Yes there is a common room type place at school that they said she can come to at any time. Even for certain lessons whilst she's finding things difficult. I've tried the whole club thing but she won't join as she doesn't know anyone. It's a vicious circle really.

Not long now and it'll be the end of school. I really hope she's had an ok day.
