I'm listening to podcasts about greek myths 😊
It mostly seems to be various women trying to avoid the advances of Zeus ⚡️

Seriously79 · 20/08/2025 23:02

I think I'm more nervous than DS!

Is that Natalie Haynes Stands up for the Classics? I caught a bit last week on a drive on radio 4 and it was excellent listening.

With the help of jet lag and Reading to look forward to tomorrow DD was asleep by 8pm! She spent the day preparing for her trip, which was a great distraction. Knowing two of her A-level choices are safe (because of already receiving the OCR grade and because of online marks scheme availability for maths) has also helped. I am going to fight jet lag and try to sleep. Wishing everyone a good sleep and a really positive morning for all our DCs (and us!).

Heylittlesongbird · 20/08/2025 22:59

I've found today hard as I do a bit of invigilation at the school and consider the EO a friend now. It's hard knowing she knows!

DC says it's like the day before Christmas or a Birthday, when the day goes so slowly, but perhaps without a nice present at the end.

Anyway, I'm here with my mind whirling around, the most nervous of everyone.

DC needs a 7 in maths and 6's in combined science and DT to carry on with A levels. Haven't made a plan B. But school are great, so I think they'd make one with us tomorrow if necessary.

We are allowed in from 9.30 and traditionally parents go in as well.

I genuinely don't really remember caring like this about my GCSEs. They were back in the 80s and I think they just turned up in an envelope in the post one day. It wasn't until A levels that we went in to collect.

Anyway, sorry for gatecrashing, good luck everyone.

You’re not gatecrashing! Welcome!! 🤗 Everyone on here is so supportive and kind……..

Wow, ok, so you have a proper insight into all this…. I’m sorry you found today hard, I can see that it would be difficult.

I really hope your

Yes!
Her books are very good, too

Bless you ( and him). Mine too. Died January 2004. Never even knew I got to have a baby after all my IVF ( plus, he wanted boys, yet got identical twin girls!😈🤦‍♀️.. he’d have loved my two DS and all the laddy stuff ).

Your lovely Dad will be proud of them, wherever he is 💕💕💕x

I felt a bit tearful earlier today when I thought about how I wish I could phone my parents to tell them about DS‘s results (whatever they may be). I’m the youngest of my siblings with quite a large age gap, so my DC were their youngest grandchildren and they absolutely doted on them. We’ve lost them both (as well my eldest brother - their favourite uncle) in the last 2.5 years. They’d all be so proud of DS.

And on that note I realise that the wine I’ve had this evening has gone to my head and I’m off to bed to try and get some sleep before we face whatever our results day-birthday brings!

Libre2 · 20/08/2025 23:33

Apparently DS is very excited for tomorrow as it decides his entire future. He has three routes decided for himself 1. Bad results, becomes lorry driver and free solo climber in spare time 2. Medium- does a levels, joins police at 18 and weight lifts in spare time 3. Does well, does a levels, goes to uni to study law, becomes lawyer and makes a 💩tonne of money. Not sure what the hobby is for number 3 I lost the will to live at that point 😂😂😂

Anyway, not sure why I am worried enough to drink a whole bottle of wine (which I never do) whilst he is, quite rightly, excited about whichever path he takes. A lesson there for me.

Setting alarm for 7 😭

Sisublondie · 20/08/2025 22:59

Oh, no! What happened?? Is she ok, now? 💕

It was during the worst time of her panic attacks/anxiety.
She also missed 2 x english lit theatre trips (she loves the theatre)
I think that may be why she found the geography paper 2 hard. She said paper 3 was "a gift" so 🤞

swampwitch0 · 20/08/2025 23:35

@Libre2
I've eaten my own body weight in biscuits today 🙃

SilverSnaffles · 20/08/2025 23:43

Found you! I had a moment of panic then, thinking I would be sitting here in the morning like Billy No-Mates, waiting to hear from dd.

She has decided to walk in with her old school run buddy tomorrow. School opens at 9.00, so apparently they are going to try and kid their brains it’s a normal school day, in an attempt to hold back their nerves. Given dd has so much nervous energy that she is literally bouncing around the house tonight, I think this is optimistic at best.

I asked her to let me know as soon as she’s opened the envelope, but she said, it depends how things go! Shock. Thankfully her sister then suggested she just takes a photo of the page/s and sends that if she is swept along with it all and doesn’t have chance to call. So it seems that’s the best I can hope for. Sad. They are going into the village together afterwards to celebrate/commiserate at a local cafe, so I won’t get to see her for a couple of hours at least after she picks her results up.

Dd is dc number 3 for me, but we have never done this before, as ds1 is complex SEN and attended an out of area school, so both his GCSE and A’Level results were emailed. Then dd1’s were 2020 so, being mid-pandemic, were teacher based grades that came via email.

That feels like it would have been a better option in terms of headache and hangxiety in the morning…

Because there wouldn’t be time for a hobby with route 3! He will either be in Court or Chambers all the time! 🤷‍♀️😈😹!!!!

Don’t worry about the wine!, hopefully it’ll help you sleep… then you can join DS in the “ most excited day of his life thus far!! 💤

Sleep well! 😴

YAY!! You found it, too!! ( I did have a cold dread seep through my veins as I desperately searched thro, my posters names! It was only when I clicked on “active threads”, or something, relief kicked in! Phew!

Well, it sounds like your DD has her morning sussed out! And, great idea from her sister to photo it and send! I mean, hopefully she’ll call, but this is a fab Plan B! I hope she is happily in the village cafe, excited with her results by lunchtime!!

Good Luck!!🤞

DS2's school is shockingly bad with communication and we've discovered this evening via the class chat and info from DS that we have been given different times to collect results and to enrol. We've decided best thing is for DH to go in with him and speak to staff to find out how the kids are actually meant to enrol. It hasn't helped our nerves at all

Ahhhhh, yes, yes, yep. Sorry, I misread. I remember. Well, yes, hopefully paper 3 will level the playing field! ( and, hopefully given she’s doing a bit better now, there will be many more theatre trips on the horizon!)..

Well, DS is showing no signs of taking to his bed, despite me reminding him we have to leave at 7.40am, so I’m going to give up and try and get some sleep… 💤 good luck, I hope you can do, too!

Eeek. That’s not good to find out at this time of the morning! Sounds like your plan with DH is the best idea. I hope you get it sorted- and good luck!

SuperSue77 · 21/08/2025 01:19

Hi everyone. Big nerves here too but DD should have done well - I just hope she is happy with her results. She has competitive friends who always want to know how she did and go on and on about them.

i bought a reduced price share and tear loaf from Waitrose for DH and me for supper and some nice cheese. Also drank some red wine with it (me not him) and I am lying in bed with a sore stomach, initially thought it was nerves but now wondering if there was something wrong with the bread 😬 DH said he thought it tasted mouldy and I explained it was the thyme giving it a flavour he wasn’t expecting - but now I’m wondering if I got it wrong? Really hoping I am not unwell in the morning. Hopefully I’ll fall asleep soon and wake up okay 🤞

Hope your tummy settles quickly without any upset!!! I would think (hope) you were right about the thyme, so hopefully it is pre-GCSE-parental anxiety!

I went to sleep hoping I would wake up at 8.30, and I’m totally awake now!!! Going to do some work and hope that bores me to sleep 🥱

justasoul · 21/08/2025 01:32

Just popping in to say good luck to everyone, hope your DC all get the grades they’re hoping for 🤞🏾

DD’s school opens at 8.30, I’m definitely more anxious than she is! I’ll be joining her but not sure if staying in the car or going in with her, will see how she feels tomorrow.

OliveWah · 21/08/2025 03:22

I can't sleep, I'm far too nervous!

Luckily DD2 was out like a light at 11:30, and although she was quite nervous, she was also very excited! School opens at 9am, I'm driving there and waiting in the car park while she goes in with her friends to get the results. DH and DD1 will be waiting on tenterhooks at home for us, then we're off for a celebratory brunch.

She worked incredibly hard for these exams, I really hope her grades reflect that.

Best of luck to one and all!

frozendaisy · 21/08/2025 04:09

TravellingSpoon · 20/08/2025 20:49

Is anyone going in with thier DC?

DD wants my taxi service for her and a friend whose Mum doesnt drive but I need to wait in the car!

This is our set up

frozendaisy · 21/08/2025 04:25

Ratty said it was like Christmas feeling without the good bits yesterday

I’ve woken up - do I just give in and do some cleanihg? That’s probably overkill might have a bath at dawn if still awake

I am not sure if little brother can go in with him, the only member of the family who would be allowed, not sure it a good idea little brother is mainly interested in what he has to beat! (Totally different child)

limescale · 21/08/2025 05:01

I was wondering why the last thread was so quiet on the day before THE day….didn’t realise it was full.
I’m awake but that’s normal for menopausal me. I’ll drop off again.

Bananafofana · 21/08/2025 05:08

I just had a nightmare that it was 3s and 4s and can’t get back to sleep (needs 7s for sixth form and no robust plan B)
