Thank you!

It’s just a case of ‘try, try, try again.’ She’s got big plans and her college is right behind her. She’ll get there.

She absolutely will!!

My son's Eng Lit score was bizarrely low - predicted a 9 and got a 6. I find that really odd as English is my subject, and I am confident he'd revised well and knew his stuff. Obviously marking for Eng Lit is subjective and I think I'm going to push for a remark. Anyone else experienced this?

yes my daughter is working at grade 6/7 and was graded 3 (one mark off a 4). It's really odd. We've asked for the script to check there is no error. She got 6 in English language.

My dd sat AQA English Language and although it’s given her grade and endorsement grade, it doesn’t give any mark so she can’t tell how close she was to the boundary. Does anyone else have this and know if we should have a mark somewhere? She’s done very well but disappointed that she got a grade higher in all mock tests and doesn’t know whether to ask for a re-mark.

Also, if she wanted to request a re-mark, can she wait to request this until she goes back to school in just under a fortnight? It doesn’t affect her getting into sixth form and I’m guessing a lot of those asking will need to be prioritised for getting into college etc. We already know she was 2 marks off the next grade in Sociology, so were possibly thinking of a re-mark for this and maybe English Language, depending on the actual she got.

I would email the school's exam officer or try to go into the school today. Don't wait 2 weeks. The school and her teacher know the total mark for English Language and the mark for each of her 2 papers for it as well. English Language doesn't have the total mark because it has the grade for the speaker language instead. I'd contact her Sociology teacher to reveiw her script (request this from the exam officer so you get the script and her Sociology teachet can look through it and advise of a review of marking) and her Head of year or English teacher to get the marks for English Language. Then you decide about requesting the script for English Language.

Sorry if this has been asked but is an 8 an A or an A*?

My son got an 8 in Eng Lang. He's annoyed with me for being annoyed about the 6 but I just feel it's wrong!

swampwitch0 · 21/08/2025 11:35

AQA?
If so, I'd definitely push for a remark

What does AQA mean? (Sorry!) Oh is that the exam board?

lifeturnsonadime · 21/08/2025 11:41

So after the disappointing 2 3's on Tuesday, DD has had a mixed bag today. Got a 6 in English Language and a 5 in maths and psychology but a 3 in English LIt (which is her strongest subject) which is really peculiar.

It also turns out that she was 2 marks off a 4 in biology.

So she doesn't meet the course requirements of 4 grade 4s but they will have her anyway because of the strong 3 passes.

She is going to resit biology if the mark doesn't increase as this will be needed for the future.

She has been home educated on EOTAS due to complex needs so she's done well.

My DD was predicted 5 for AQA Lit and got a 3. Not the end of the world for her as she passed Lang and that's all she needs for college, but it sounds like there's quite a disparity in the predicted grades and final marks.

SuperTrooper1111 · 21/08/2025 11:43

@lifeturnsonadime Same for DD with English Lit and biology. She's keen to resit the latter but not sure where she can do that. Going to ask at college when she enrols tomorrow.

Yes mine is AQA too.

She doesn't NEED it but it's frustrating as it is her best subject. We've asked for the paper as she was one mark off a 4.

Same here but got a high mark in 1 paper and really low in the other. One mark off a 7.
Got a 9 in language. Annoyingly her lowest grade and what she is doing at A level and wants to do a degree in so very disappointed in this one grade.

yea !!- that must be a huge relief for both of you.

Well done to her.

So a mix of 6s and 7s for dd with a couple of 5s and a U in further maths (wtf?)

so proud of her but as per her usual form she’s disappointed. Managed a 5 in art despite not completing her portfolios.

We spoke to school re her English lit mark and it turns out she only dropped 14 marks in the Macbeth paper despite the migraine so that was a surprise.

dd was called to the side after she had enrolled for 6th form and apparently school are requesting her papers back in 6 of her subjects as she missed the next grade up by no more than 3 marks in some and only 1 mark in her history and English lang. Not sure if we have the money to request remarks in all the subjects but will see what her teachers advise

Well done to all those who picked up their results today - for those which didn’t quite hit their targets, although it feels like the end of the world it just means a different route.

Ds picked up his results 2 years ago - failed everything apart from maths and double science which meant he missed out on his level 3 college place. We rang the college in a panic and they were fantastic and offered a level 2 instead with English resit classes as part of his timetable.

He has just graduated with a Merit - Merit and finally passed his English (on the 7th try!) and is now gainfully employed with an agricultural contractor.

whojamaflip · 21/08/2025 11:45

Oh and we went clear on the TB test!

InfiniteTeas · 21/08/2025 11:46

Relief over results here. DS1 was originally predicted 9s across the board but decided that meant he didn't need to do any work. It took disastrous mocks before he decided to knuckle down. He came out with decent results - below the original predictions, but way above the revised ones - and he's reasonably happy. 7s in all four A-level subjects and comfortably met the entry requirements for his fairly competitive 6th form. One possible remark.

she took this one as a private candidate at a local private school, I've asked them this morning and she can do a resit in November as a private candidate. It's an IGCSE so they do November exams. I will have to personally fund it.

SuperTrooper1111 · 21/08/2025 11:49

@whojamaflip It's so great to hear about kids like your DS who've successfully followed the vocational path. I'm really excited for my DD to start hers in Sept!

swampwitch0 · 21/08/2025 11:51

@whojamaflip
Phew on retest!
Such great news.
My dd got far more grade wise than she needed but the btec route will suit her well, I think 😊

Mycatismad · 21/08/2025 11:52

Some of daughters are going for remarking as she was 1 or 2 marks of on 3 different subjects but it doesn't affect her getting into 6th form but school are sending them anyway

thrilled.

Well done to everyone!

DDs did great (in my view) but they’re being really hard on themselves. DD1 all 8/9, DD2 one 7 but others 8/9. DD2 has been crying for ages Sad despite us trying to reassure her.

The pressure these kids get put under is ridiculous, I genuinely can’t even remember what I got in my GCSE’s. I currently work as a marketing executive in a firm I’ve worked with for nearly 10 years. I didnt go to university, don’t have a degree and am pretty damn proud of myself for the job I have! I wish I could tell 16 year old me it would all be ok!

JaninaDuszejko · 21/08/2025 12:03

DD2 is delighted with her results, got 2x9, 4x8, 2x7 and a 6. The 6 was in Music where the teaching was so bad the new headmaster has now dropped it as an option for GCSE.

For those who aren't so happy with their results remember there is #nowrongpath and how you do at 16 does not define you for life.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 21/08/2025 12:08

Ds passed ALL of his exams , lowest mark he received was a 7 , to say we are unbelievably proud is an understatement!

He was in poorly in the lead up to his exams and admitted to hospital halfway through them and had to miss some, so the fact he’s done this amazing is just outstanding 💙
