Congratulations to all the kids whatever they got, I hope they're happy and can move on to whatever version of the next stage that suits them! Wish we had any results to report but mental health problems meant DD16 didn't make into any exams. Maybe next year... 🙏

Goingincirclesstill · 21/08/2025 10:53

Dropped a couple of grades in 2 of her better subjects surprisingly so she is annoyed, but better than expected in other key subjects so overall got what she needed and signed into school 6th form with grades she needed for the changes in subjects she wanted. She got really good overall and smashed science which I doubted but she's bouncing back now and we are very happy with / for her

There was a girl in dds group this year who should have sat her exams last year.
She made it into the exams this year and did well xxx

This is the single most joyful thing I’ve read today. Many many congratulations to him ! Brought a tear to my eye so thanks for sharing

swampwitch0 · 21/08/2025 10:55

Dd a bit disappointed with her 6 in drama as her performances were graded as 9s.
But, its still a great grade

icanbewhatiwant · 21/08/2025 10:55

Well done to everyone. Ds is pleased with his. Though he’s saying he doesn’t care. He got 8 grade 9’s which were all the stem subjects. 6 and 7 in RS and citizenship, which he’s not bothered about. The other 3 were 8. So I’m very proud.

Ds washed his hair this morning, didn’t brush it, it looked half damp I daren’t criticise, apparently he had his photo taken for the local newspaper 🤦‍♀️

swampwitch0 · 21/08/2025 10:56

@QueenMabby
Absolutely incredible results!
Well done to your dd 👏👏

icanbewhatiwant · 21/08/2025 10:51

@QueenMabbyhow do you know what the top mark is for further maths (and all the others for that matter?

On DD’s sheet it had the grade but then the raw marks for each paper showing what they were out of so I could see what her raw scores were. She dropped more marks on regular maths than she did for further maths! Only Eng Lang didn’t say what it was out of but even that had her actual raw scores on.

So proud of my DD - she had 38% attendance in Yr11 due to EBSA and ended up sitting her GCSE’s in a specialist unit, having taught herself a lot of the content. She had to drop 2, but insisted on taking 8 so she had the option to apply for 6th form. She achieved
1 x 9
5 x 7
2 x 6

We both cried when we saw them!!

Oh poor kid. I don't remember so much pressure either. I think it's because the previous Govt were so hot on judging schools on exams performance that it inevitably filtered down to the kids.

May a very old woman make an observation? It seems that 'these days' the anxiety around results is made worse by mothers (and fathers) getting so involved and hysterical which will inevitably be felt by the students, I don't recall this level of involvement either as a pupil or parent. We, in the '60s, got detailed results by post, often on Saturday, schools didn't open on Thursday, but we could see passes in the local rag on Thursday. As a parent we drove our child to school, sat in the car with fingers crossed as they went in.
Good luck to all your youngsters.

@TheLivelyViper Thank you. She is sticking with English Language as her first A Level. She initially wanted to do Literature, but the blocks are very odd and that would restrict her from so many of her other options, plus her English teacher was very keen for her to do Language. She’s also had a good look at the curriculum etc and prefers Lang to Lit based on that anyway. They don’t do Lang-Lit at her school.

Dd1 is doing a Sociology degree at home. Her aim is charity/advocacy work eventually. It wouldn’t surprise me if dd heads in a similar direction, as she is very into ethics, human rights, equality etc.

I have just received email confirmation that her enrolment submission has been submitted. I think she put Eng Lang, Sociology and Politics, but am not sure on her 4th. Initially it was going to be Drama, but she’s really lost her passion for that recently. Last I heard she was considering French, as she really does enjoy studying it and exceeded her predicted GCSE grade, plus she has the offer of somewhere to live in France if she ever wants to study/work there. I doubt it will be History because, despite it being one of her strongest subjects and she thinks it’s ok, she doesn’t love it. Dh finds this most disappointing, as he was all about History and ds1 was similar to dd about it, so dd was his last hope! 😆

marshallmum · 21/08/2025 11:00

Twins here… both got what they needed for next year which is a huge relief.
DD - couple of 9s, the rest 8s, and a 6 in Eng Language which was below predictions but she knew she’d messed up the paper so not a complete surprise.
DS - mix of 8s and 7s with a 6 in Eng Lit.
DS is a SEN student and we were told when he was diagnosed with ASD (when he was 2!) that he’d likely not go any further than primary school for education. So we’re over the moon and so proud that the hard work has paid off for both of them.

icanbewhatiwant · 21/08/2025 11:01

@QueenMabbyours just says a grade with a mark besides in brackets. Like for further maths it’s says grade 9 (154)
I shall have to google it I guess.

OopsNoHoliday · 21/08/2025 11:02

Well done to all the amazing mums and dads out there - not easy to guide a teen through GCSEs with so many challenges and distractions out there, and our kids have had their extra challenges due to COVID lockdown which no one even seems to think about now!

@QueenMabby with twelve 9s your dc is likely in the top 20 achievers in the whole country… how does that feel?! You must be somewhere floating near cloud 9 I guess.

Despite my earlier negativity, big relief here. Mix of 4s, 5s and 1x6. Most importantly he passed English and can do his level 3 BTEC (and we never have to think about English again).

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 21/08/2025 11:04

DS feels his results are “good enough” and they are certainly good enough for 6th form but all his grades are one grade lower than predicted, which is a shame for him. Plus he got 9s in every RE exam but only ended up with a 6, which came as a surprise. He came out with one 7, seven 6s and an 4 in Spanish which was expected as he dropped down to foundation for that and he’s dyslexic so he struggles with English never mind Spanish! All of his friends are in the same boat strangely enough but at the end of the day it’s just numbers on a piece of paper!

SO thrilled for him (and you!)

Complete shock in this house. Full set of 9s with 1 x 8, she was 1 mark short of a 9 in that one.

No, the pressure and anxiety comes from the schools attitude these days.

Congratulations to your ds! That’s exactly how my dd feels about Maths. So relieved that she will never have to think about, let alone study, it again! I haven’t told her I am planning to retake it myself next year, so may be coming to her for help. 😆

CarrieMi · 21/08/2025 11:09

Huge congratulations to all of your DC.

We home educated through GCSE's and my two got what they hoped for, in the main. Couple of 9s, couple of 8s and a sprinkling of 7s and 6s!
