6's and 5's here. I'm chuffed for him. He has done enough for next move and he is really pleased with outcome.

Well done to all those smashing it.

Hope all those that are disappointed will find a really good plan B going forward.

If it is vocational, then hopefully there is a Level 2 or Level 1 in the same area she can start on. All will not be lost.

Thank you, yes she wants to do the NVQ route, that is reassuring.

TheyNotLikeUs · 21/08/2025 10:06

DD wants to query one result (8) for a subject she is taking for A Level (overall she's thrilled she got all 9s and 8s) so I emailed the Exams Officer but got their Out of Office reply.

Which staff member should I approach instead?

And is the process we and teachers view the script and then decide if we want to proceed with a remark?

psuedocream3 · 21/08/2025 09:55

DD got 3's and under, I suspect that she wont be able to do her college course now.

Mine got threes a four and a five fortunately the course he wants says he needs a 2 he is right on the grade boundaries for English for a four im trying to convince him to retake in November to push himself up a grade

Oblomov25 · 21/08/2025 10:06

Good grades. But not enough to get into 6th form automatically. 😢 He got 7-7 in science. But only 6 in maths. And he needs a 7 in maths to do A'level sciences. So now we just have to sit and wait. Worried.

EmeraldJeanie · 21/08/2025 10:11

Ds did really well and going to sixth form of choice. Photographer insisted on me being in photo. I should have said no as incredibly unphotogenic!

@TheLivelyViper thank you, I will pass that advice on to her. Problem is she is unsure what she wants to do. She was very determined and all about performing arts right up until the exams, then suddenly did an about turn and wanted to do A Levels. She’s strongest in English and History and her dream uni course is English with Creative Writing, but she’s worried about job prospects, given AI is likely to eliminate a lot of the roles those subjects would be best for. She loved the Sociology and Politics lessons on the taster day, but some of her older friends, keep telling her how they regret taking certain subjects, which is making her second guess herself.

Make sure she focuses on her and what see wants to do. I did Sociology, English Literature, Politics and History and loved them all. I would say Sociology and Politics are very sinful for understanding the modern world and institutions and are so interesting, I use them all the time. I even helped my sister with an essay she was doing for a competition on OBGYN (she's a medical students) and actually the combination of what I know from studying the healthcare system etc and what happens in their countries and her medical knowledge produced the most innovative ideas. I'd so recommend and great essay skills as well.

I'm now doing History and Politics at university and do some Sociology modules occasionally as well. I got an A in Sociology and loved it, did all the extra reading and stuff from uni. I'd definitely do the subjects which she's strongest in, if they are English and History which I would do at least one as they have great skills. Get her to look at the topics and the modules for the subjects and the books for English as well. English is so much more broad and personalised at A-level and you get to share any of your ideas. If she likes creative writing I'd look into English Language and Literature (combined A-level) because she can do Creative writing then. There's no creative writing in English Literature A-level. *

Also don't worry about AI and uni too much now (if that's her aim that's okay) - there will be an increased value on something made my a human (in the arts and English/authors especially) because people don't like the idea of machines writing books, they want stories by humans inspired my real life and they want a human to be an editor if she goes on to work in publishing etc. Also don't forget that knowledge is valuable forever just for the sake of it. She can and might change her mind about her career and also university espeically once she does new subjects at A-level. But if that's her goal now she should do English Language and Literature A-level definitely and then I'd recommend Sociology, Politics and perhaps History as well (if she likes the topics). Or just the first three.

Congratulations to her as well. I hope this and my past message helps.

Make him to do it, an English GCSE will come up for university applications (some London unis want at least a 6 but most are fine with a 4). It will come up for jobs including a part-time job in retail or something. It will come up for internships in university summers and graduate jobs and careers forever. It's so important these days, I've always been asked about it and made to show my GCSE certificate as well.

Yes ask for scripts first, don't do the remark straight away. Approach her Head of year, any SLT or her subject teachers first and get them to look through the scripts. You may have to way as it won't be priority because some people will need the grades for 6th form or college places which are dependent on a review.

swampwitch0 · 21/08/2025 10:19

Haven't read the full thread as I'm still in the car park with very patchy WiFi

Dd did really well...passed everything.

Got a 9 in her passion subject and a 6 in English language and a 5 in maths!

Very proud 👏

Pinkflower100 · 21/08/2025 10:21

He got a 3, a few 4’s and a few 5’s. No retakes. Woo hoo!

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 21/08/2025 10:27

We think he got the wrong results as he
got two 6s and the rest 4 and 5s. He was not expecting that and I couldn’t be more proud of him. 7 years ago this boy was broken from his dad dying, and he’s always hated school the days I had to drag him out of bed. Yet here he is absolutely blasting those exams.

Hope my husband is having a cold beer up there baba to celebrate, his son is celebrating with a can of coke.

Fightingdragonswithyou · 21/08/2025 10:36

She only went and passed!!

Predicted a 2 in English language and got a 5.

All 5s and 6s bar French which was a 3.

So so proud of her ❤️

Libre2 · 21/08/2025 10:37

Phew - that is done. He is delighted with his grades - with the notable exception of art which he got a 3 in. 8s in everything else apart from a 7 in maths which we are over the moon about, and somewhat unexpectedly, a 9 in French.
Thanks for the company everyone

Well done to everyone! It sounds like the vast majority got what they needed which is the main thing.
Big hugs for those struggling today. There will be a lot of chopping and changing for schools and colleges over the next few weeks and although the wait will be hard there will be something for everyone and maybe some flexibility on grades once admissions numbers are known.

dd a very happy girl. Eleven grade 9s for her to add to last year’s grade 9 so 12 in total. She aced her Further maths - only dropped one mark across the whole gcse! She’s out with friends now so I’ve not had a chance to look at the whole sheet but will have a good go through it later.

DS passed everything with grades ranging from 4-9,some higher than expected some lower. He is annoyed by Spanish which he wants to do at a level and got a 6 vs his usual 7/8. He wasn’t close either to a 7. Am proud of him-not sure what to do with myself now as took the day off and he is roaming the streets with his pals! Some cracking results on this thread, for those that are disappointed as we know there is always a path through it.

BTECnewbie · 21/08/2025 10:41

All lovely news. I’m still waiting to hear but feeling like we won’t be the lucky ones.

swampwitch0 · 21/08/2025 10:45

Dd got 1 x 4 in geography which isn't a surprise as she didn't go on the field trip and didn't revise for it! 😀

MamaElephantMama · 21/08/2025 10:46

My daughter passed everything.

As, Bs and a C. Using the old term to show my age and because I’ve been telling family who don’t understand the numbers 😂

It was an amazing experience and we couldn’t be happier. So glad we went with her.

swampwitch0 · 21/08/2025 10:46

7 in media which she's very happy with
6 in lang and 7 in lit!
5 in maths - high scores. I'm content we made the right choice to do the F paper.
Dd only dropped 3 marks in her art subject 😮😃
