New thread to carry us all through the summer as we transition from dealing with stressed teens to dealing with bored teens!

@SuperTrooper1111congrats!

Not congrats for me – my DD is waiting for GCSE results next week!

Whoooo · 14/08/2025 08:57

@CatHairEveryWhereNowyay!

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 14/08/2025 09:00

Thanks for all the congratulations - he's headed into college - decided to get results in person not via their system - as he says he's got what he needs so he may as well.

So fingers crossed for others waiting - really hope it's good news for them as well.

SuperTrooper1111 · 14/08/2025 09:40

Sending good vibes to your DS this morning @labradorservant! After the trauma of his accident, I hope he got the results he wanted.

He did, thank you. Got exactly what was required. Felt sick this morning.
Now not sure what to do with myself. He’s very happy.

Oh congratulations, that is fantastic news! So pleased for him and you! Where's he off to? x

That's a shame about the timetabling but hopefully he won't need to worry about resits. What BTech is he doing? Mine's doing Animal Care.

DS wants to do a fairly niche BTEC in aviation operations. He’s mad about planes and wants to work in the airline industry.

Maybe we will need a BTEC thread next year if there are enough of us.

Mine too - and not only are they next week but split between Tuesday and Thursday! Next week is going to be an anxious one as she has struggled so badly with ADHD and bullying - moving to a new school and retaking year 10 as she was with a new exam board.

Poisoningpigeons · 14/08/2025 11:08

Congratulations to the A-levellers!

This week is going to feel veeeeeeerry long 😓 Does anybody have any advice for what to say if twins get different results?

I found a BTEC thread very helpful for my DD1 (10 years ago now), as the needs/queries seem to be very different from A levels. Just understanding how they work (and the need to hit the ground running, and not miss out on Merit/Distinction criteria early on) is very different from A levels.

Whoooo · 14/08/2025 11:24

I'd definitely be up for a btec thread!

Me too! It’s very much the great unknown for us.

Whoooo · 14/08/2025 12:01

Yes.
Older dd did the trad route of 3 x A levels and I did A level 2,000 years ago so I sort of knew the score

My DP is a twin and aways out-performed his sibling academically, so their parents focused on the subjects his twin did do well in, which were different ones. Lots of positive chat about how they were on the right paths for each one's unique abilities, which really helped according to DP.

TheFunSponge · 14/08/2025 13:04

I'd be up for a BTec thread too.

GrumpyMuleFan · 14/08/2025 13:10

Me too!!

TeenToTwenties · 14/08/2025 13:28

If someone starts a btec thread in Further Education I'll chip in as my eldest did a L3 Extended Diploma and my youngest has done 3 years of City&Guilds at levels 1 and 2.

Whoooo · 14/08/2025 13:35

@SuperTrooper1111
My 2 dds are chalk and cheese (but get on amazingly well, which I'm grateful for!)
Older dd - very good grades at gcse, 3 x As at A Level, almost got a first at undergraduate and had just completed her postgrad.
Dd will get some high grades at gcse but I'm very glad she only needs 4s for the rest! 😃
Dd had 3 x post 16 paths she could have gone down, whereas older dd was always very passionate about her subject/focus.
I think dd has chosen the right one - 2 year L3 extended btec - but who knows?
Imo it's about making sure you encourage and praise the same way, no matter what the path.

Thanks.😀

I think he most pleased by one paper - here it's 40% Y12 exams is end A-level grade and further maths was bad last year - there was some format change that threw him and the first paper was an E the worst one though they were all well below predictions but he improve every paper.

We had to really push to get him to re-sit - again something allowed here - he refused to do others papers but agree to that one. E last year on that one paper to A this on same paper - no extra teaching on it so all on him - so overall he came up to a C in further maths.

DD2 doing A-levels hopefully - but I do wish there was more information about BTecs as I think they'd have suited DD1 much more than A-levels she did do.
