@Sisublondie
I am very cranky and moody today...I do not cope with heat 🫠
Ugh. It's awful here today 😔
I've had an ice lolly and the air con is ON
Dd has had another offer of some p/t work, so thats good 👍

Excellent about the p/t work!! Is she happy?! When does she start?

It’s still roasting here, it in a horrid, muggy way! I was inside all day and didn’t have a peep outside so don’t know if it was sunny, as it was just still hot when I got out… but the roads home were full of crazy road rage people!! I was cut up so badly at one roundabout , I was 🙀🙀🙀! What’s your forecast tom? I’m midlands ish .. I think we’ve all got more of the same??

PLAN B!!

Well. Plan B ish!!! I called the college yesterday!! I had to give his name to get “ the deets”, as they say.. So, he’s applied for Level 3 Diploma in Public Services ( extended is in year 2, apparently?).. He needs 4 x 4, like I thought. Sometimes, she says, they offer a Level 2 public services ( if don’t make the 4 x 4).but not currently offering that. However…. she did say, that sometimes if a fair few don’t make the grades, they amend it to Level 2- but that’s a very much wait and see. Presuming that’s not offered, and a plan B is needed, he could still attend, it would then depend on how close to getting a grade 4 he was ( English:).. if very close, they would recommend a remark. If “fairly close” fail maybe just a resit in nov without having to attend classes ( but would have to be very confident of getting a 4).

If grades really not ok, then he would have the option of a Level 2 of his choosing ( a lot chose sport ( no chance at all), or IT ( “ to boost their digital skills) whilst they retake. Depending on grade in English, if grade 3./2 to resit as gcse, grade 1 prob functional skills.

We had a good chat about additional support, and safeguarding was raised when I mentioned he is bullied. She said SENCO will be there on the day to raise concerns or chat to. All in all, I feel better for calling. However, I haven’t told him I have, and I don’t know whether he thinks it is the norm for a Level 2 Public Services to be offered. So, I guess I’m going to have to broach that…..🤷‍♀️😼

Good luck to all the A-level parents out there! DS u decided whether to hide at home or come out with DH and I and a friend who are taking our off it with a drink! This time tomorrow we’ll hopefully know what he’s doing, or on hold to clearing.

As for grades changing. DS was within 1 mark of predicted. Except RS. Went from a 4 to a 9 (he realised there wasn't as much to learn once he got his head round it.)

🍀 🍀 🍀 🍀 GOOD LUCK!!!!!! 🤞🙏🤞🙏🤞🙏!!!!

I really hope tomorrow makes his dreams come true!!!!!

 🍀 🙏🤞…. 🤗 x

@SuperTrooper1111and @GrumpyMuleFan … I posted my Plan B!

@SuperTrooper1111, it sounds like your DD is very similar to my DS ( he’s ND), in her plans for Level 3 BTech!
Does she just need 2 passes., as in to grade 4 ‘s in English and Maths? I guess I need to see what other Level 2 options are out there, should we need it. Not ideal, as you say, but at least he can start there…….😼

Sisublondie · 13/08/2025 21:58

@CatHairEveryWhereNow and ALL A Levels people!!

Wishing you 🍀 🤞🙏 🍀 tomorrow!!!!!!

💕x

Yes DD will be disappointed if she doesn’t get 9s for her three arts subjects. But I think that’s a big ask and also strategically unimportant! She needs 6 in English language and maths, both of which she hates and never wants to see again. I’m slightly petrified in case she has to rest them-it’s been a miserable year for her slightly older friend who had to resit them this year.

Welcome!! Glad you joined! You’ll find lots of support on here …. wishing your DD luck on her Arts 🎭!

Yes, resits would be shocking, wouldn’t they? Your DD friend doesn’t sound like it’s a hoot… 🤞🙏 won’t be necessary for your DD… 🤞🤞🤞

They do sound very similar! She just needs a 4 in either English or Maths. Which sounds great in theory and obviously we were pleased for her that the interview went so well they lowered the entry criteria when they offered her a place, but the worry is it made her complacent about the rest of her exams! She does need to pass a few for future job prospects. We have said that if she doesn’t pass both she really should do a resit of the one she fails but fingers crossed it won’t come to that!

SuperTrooper1111 · 13/08/2025 22:28

Good luck to everyone getting A-Level results tmw - hope you manage to get some sleep!

Cycleaway · 14/08/2025 07:28

We only realised this week that DS gets his additional maths result today and not next week with his gcse results 😬 anyone else getting additional maths marks today? It was the only exam DS came home from and said that was terrible, so although the mark from that doesn’t impact anything/count for anything, I think it could mean DS is worried about his other results for the next week!

SuperTrooper1111 · 14/08/2025 07:41

@CycleawayBest of luck! Does he need a certain grade for his next steps?

IThinkImAMathmoMum · 14/08/2025 07:44

All the best to those who survived double exams and have A level or other results today!

@Cycleaway my DS did additional maths three years ago but just got his result at the same time as his GCSEs, the school has no sixth form so perhaps they felt it was simpler to release them all at once? Hope it doesn't cause him any (extra) anxiety.

mojobrojo · 14/08/2025 07:47

@Cycleaway I hadn’t realised until you said, but I think DS has an additional maths qualification that comes out today. But the school have said nothing so I assume they plan to give them the results next week along with their GCSEs. Perhaps if we ask then they’ll tell us or maybe they’ll email it, but while DS is blissfully unaware then I think I’ll keep it that way!

TeenToTwenties · 14/08/2025 07:47

@Sisublondie re Extended being in year 2.

What some colleges try to do is get all the mandatory units over in y1 so if a student drops out after that they still leave with something, and then y2 is just more of the optional units to make up the credits to the full Extended Diploma. Makes good sense.

Is there another college within reach that could offer the level 2 uniformed public services if that might be preferred to a different course for plan B/C?

GrumpyMuleFan · 14/08/2025 07:48

Morning all. Thanks for the welcome and for the info on B plans for those who have made them. I sat yesterday and went through DD mock results, predicted grades in Feb and then again from March (school updated them). I felt much better as it reminded me of where her predicted grades were - which, bar English, were all passes. Also went through in my mind just how hard she had worked. She's having trouble sleeping and said she was worried about failing at life. We talked it all through and she agrees that it's not the end of the world, but it shows me what she she really believes at the mo. Next week can't come a moment too soon. I am going to make lots of plans and keep us really busy. . .

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 14/08/2025 07:48

DS two years ago got his additional maths mark with his GCSE results - but we in Wales so could be different. DD2 away anyway and not thinking about exams.

@Sisublondie thank you - shouldn't be long now.

GCSEnerves · 14/08/2025 07:50

My DS only needs 4x4s for his level 3 BTEC but needs both English and Maths. We were told that some courses will let you on the level 3 course if you need to resit one of them, but his particular course insists on passing both as they have timetabling issues with the English and Maths resit lessons. Next Thursday is going to be a nerve wracking day.

That's a shame about the timetabling but hopefully he won't need to worry about resits. What BTech is he doing? Mine's doing Animal Care.

SuperTrooper1111 · 14/08/2025 08:16

I'm just watching A-level students opening their results live on TV – I can't believe how brave they are being! There was one rather awkward exchange on the Beeb breakfast just now with one lad not saying how he did.

QueenMabby · 14/08/2025 08:20

Good luck for all A-level results today! My bff’s dd picks her up at school at 9 but UCAS has already been updated for her so she knows she’s got her first choice place. 🙌🏻🙌🏻

DS got his first choice place - Sheffield. No results yet but he's very relieved and happy.

Best wishes to everyone getting level 3 results today. For those getting FSMQ Add maths the grade boundaries are lower than previous years. Apparently it was a tough exam.

He doesn’t need the result for anything, so it doesn’t really matter at all, I think the thing it’s most likely to impact on is the atmosphere in our house for the next week!

It’s OCR additional maths, and I think mainly a bit of a bridging qualification between gcse and a level. They had 45 mins a week on it in year 11 during lunch break, so who knows! The results are definitely out today - they have not been invited in to school to collect them, but they’ll be available on their school app this morning.

good luck to everyone whose DC are collecting A level results this morning

Yes, BTech, T Levels and other tech qualifications often get overlooked on A-levels Day so well done to everyone who smashed their results!
