New thread to help us get through the next week or so!

OP posts:

@Fightingdragonswithyou was that IGCSE or regular gcse? DD did IGCSE edexcel and said Vietnam was ok but medicine wasn’t great. She ms a bit sad that this is the end of history for her - a bit like @VivaDixie shes going to miss history. If the A level was modular she’d be signing up immediately but there’s a lot if content for linear and the (almost a dissertation) NEA!

Fightingdragonswithyou · 05/06/2025 12:54

Just regular gcse.
She's still got one more paper so hopefully can pull some marks back on it.

Sunnyafternooning · 05/06/2025 13:13

Unfortunately the things that were predicted (that he revised answers to!) didn’t come up in history! 😣 Helsinki accords anyone?!😂

He had worked hard on history so he said it went well, just not as we’d hoped.

Geography and English tomorrow!

CoffeeChocolateWine · 05/06/2025 13:16

Thank you for the welcomes! I had to look up what exam board my DS is doing for history as the topics seemed different to others on here. He's doing EDUQAS. I think it's his only subject with this exam board as the rest seem to be AQA and Edexcel.

Anyway he's home now. Started giving some football analogy about it...he reckoned he was 2-0 down after the first paper but pulled it back with this one and it went to extra time (in his analogy - he doesn't actually get extra time) and he managed to score the winning goal in the last question 🤣

He's not a stellar achiever but he wants a 5 in history but felt that was unlikely this time yesterday. English Language tomorrow.

VivaDixie · 05/06/2025 13:18

OMG @CoffeeChocolateWine my DS does this after his exams too! I need to ask him for his football commentary on this morning.

We are also hoping for a 5 in history - he will be delighted with that. I just want him to pass for his confidence.

waitingquietly · 05/06/2025 13:23

I’ve been told it was alright again - so glad I’m on here to be able to find out what it was really like

I know all about the baskets of the accords... nope... didn't need them!

Eccle80 · 05/06/2025 14:12

I won’t hear from DS until after French but sounds promising a number of yours have been happy with the same one (AQA Elizabethan and Health).

It feels like the end is in sight with two subjects finished today and another tomorrow.

Sorry for those struggling with colds, it’s the last thing they need on top of everything else

babystarsandmoon · 05/06/2025 15:23

History went OK apparently but she said it won’t be a great result as it’s her most disliked subject that she just hasn’t been able to keep up with.

She will be very glad that it’s over with forever! Only English, maths and two science left.

I came searching for this.

My daughter sat the AQA and she said the same - what was that? She did complete the paper, but is a bit disappointed with how she did, especially after thinking she did really well on P1.

FIngers crossed for them 🤞🏾.

Oblomov25 · 05/06/2025 15:39

Sorry to hear of those with colds, as if this all isn't bad enough already.
Can't believe the weather, this rain in June is crap.
My friends dd finishes her exams today pm. Ds2 has 10 more, doesn't finish for just under 2 weeks.

He's got English then Geography tomorrow, as do many of our dc.

ExamStuff · 05/06/2025 15:40

My daughter found the French exam ‘pretty good’. (AQA higher)

She looks exhausted but it’s been a long day with History as well.

16 down, 5 to go for us and nicely spaced out.

Oblomov25 · 05/06/2025 15:41

Coffee love the football analogy! 😀

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 05/06/2025 15:52

French was okay apparently - translation okay and subjects she was okay with came up - and her nose only bothered her last 15 minutes - though she got loud sighs from someone at her - which is understanable but she not choosing to be ill.

She says she ready for English - done all school work and did some of a English language work book we got over half term - so may just glance though and have a quiet and early night. It easier as morning exam so she can eaisly take the nasal spray that seem to help the most and then come home straight after.

After maths next week a large number of her friends will be done - she's got another week and I remember from DS that is was really hard to keep momentum going.

Fightingdragonswithyou · 05/06/2025 12:27

Pearson Edexcel history was "interesting and not in a good way" according to DD.

Questions weren't nice apparently.

First exam she's had a wobble about.

Same for DD on excel history. It's the first exam she's been really down about. She had Saxons/ Normans and Superpowers. She said none of the 'main' topics came up and the questions were quite niche. She also spent ages writing about the Cuban missile crisis (1962) and the question was 'after 1963' 🤦🏼‍♀️. Poor thing realised too late to change it. She is just grateful that her favourite history exam is yet to come and hoping it's a good one.

MrsHamlet · 05/06/2025 16:01

@OhCrumbsWhereNow sorry no. I've only taught AQA

2025istheyeari · 05/06/2025 16:17

Son found Edexcel history ‘decent’, couldn’t necessarily remember all the dates and one of the questions on Richard and John a bit random, but overall better than expected. French ( worst subject) wasn’t good! Translation he found really hard as did others he said, and the second question quite challenging. At least that’s it done and in his words ‘I never have to utter another word of French!’
Geography and English here tomorrow, he feels prepared for English and just doing some last minute geography. After tomorrow he’ll be 19 exams down and 6 to go so 3/4 of the way through!!

Hope all those with colds feel better soon, grim being under the weather on top of these exams.

It's easily done, mine mixed up Louis Pasteur and Edward Jenner until she had a light bulb moment about pasteurisation and realised he didn't actually have anything to do with vaccines. By this time she had written a page on the wrong person and had to redo it in a rush.
Another 2 weeks of exams, think there's physics and 2 x Further Maths in the last week.

DD did something very similar mixing up 1947 with a different year in the Olympics question (I think!). But no time to change it.

I guess having 4 papers for one subject should help making up for it against each other.

Delatron · 05/06/2025 16:38

I am trying to decipher which history DS does. Think it’s IGCSE - he seems to do a lot of China, Russia and Germany? Cold War? He never lets me help him so I don’t know for sure. Anyone any ideas? 😂/ and if so - how did that exam go? He’s not back yet and I’ll get a ‘fine’….

Eccle80 · 05/06/2025 16:41

DS now home, he said history went ok but didn’t feel it was his best. He said that was a big mark question on something like whether government had the biggest influence on health, and mentioned a 6 mark on the Armada I think?

He seemed pretty happy with French. Now onto English and geography for tomorrow!

Those mentioning finishing after tomorrow or after maths next week, do they not still have science papers?

Maybe they do combined science not triple.

achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 05/06/2025 16:47

Even combined is still next week and the week after - Physics combined is on the 16th (Edexcel)

BreakfastClub80 · 05/06/2025 16:48

WJEC French Higher was a good paper according to DD, decent questions (for her). Her spelling is bad though so it’s never one of her best. That’s all for French now. “La Fin”

OliveWah · 05/06/2025 16:57

DD2 is very happy with how History (AQA Medicine and Elizabeth) went this morning. She had me and DD1 acting out the Spanish Armada last night, so she was pleased to be able to talk about that, and to be able to use the great list of dates she's memorised about public health!

Maths yesterday was a bit of a downer, it's her best (and favourite) subject, and she has been getting 72 - 78/80 on all the past papers she's done over the last couple of weeks, but she wasn't happy with Paper 2. She never thinks she's done well in Maths though, even with class tests we've often had tears at home over how badly she thinks she's scored, only to find out she came top, or close to, once the results are in.

English Lang Paper 2 tomorrow, it's her weakest subject (she has a processing disorder so has blue paper for her exams, but no extra time) and she was really stressed the night before the first paper, then we had tears afterwards. She seems more prepared for Paper 2 though, and as I keep telling her, she only needs to pass, then she never has to do English ever again!

I've got DD1 doing A levels at the moment too, so off to run some China flashcards now!
