New thread to help us get through the next week or so!

DS shattered last night after paper 2 AQA maths - had a school led history revision class in the afternoon. He slept 5pm till 5am ! . We got up together and had a look at a couple of model answers for the 16 markers in power and the people for half an hour but it was clear it wasn't helping . They only started looking at in late march April in school. Fingers crossed x two more weekends to get through - there's a prom but DS not bothered - shipping him off to the grandparents long distance to help at theirs round their small holding (and get spoilt rotten) by train for a bit which is an exciting baby step in independence. The we are off on a family package deal - can't go anywhere until ds 2 finishes although we do finish a week & a bit earlier here than the rest of the country. DS will probably re pick up some shifts at hotel pot washing and he can help with our business. long summer though as likely to go cross county for the next stage sixth form or college and they restart in September. History finishes in a couple of minutes !

Poisoningpigeons · 05/06/2025 11:03

DC have only just emerged from morning ablutions to have breakfast (at 11!) so no revision has happened yet today. I had the impression that there is a lot to remember in Geography, so Hmm

QueenMabby · 05/06/2025 11:19

Dd very happy with the Liz and American West paper (Edexcel). She’s now very worried for the last paper (Russia) as both the history papers so far have been good so she’s concerned a horror awaits her in the last one which is her least favourite! She finished with 5 mins to spare which is good for her on an essay exam as normally she’s frantically scribbling until the last second.

@frozendaisyDD thinks she caught this at a revision session on Thur of half term. She said she sat next to someone who was snotty. I may have got mine from toddlers at work...wondering how history went but can't talk to DD as she's in school till after French and then I'm at work 😭. DD wanted to do History A level and she should manage a 6 even with illness but it's more how it will affect her confidence in the subject. Maybe she should do maths as she found the revision a lot easier and the exam was OK too. I just worry about maths as DS1 had such a hard time with it at A level and we're still traumatised (it was only last year). Sixth form are pretty open to changing subjects around.

VivaDixie · 05/06/2025 11:25

DS should be coming out of History now - I 'think' he is coming straight home for a cuddle 😍 lunch then back to school later for English masterclass.

I am glad this is over in a way but sad for him as he loves history. I shall report back later on.

Eugh...it feels like the nursery days, where you'd get to work feeling like you'd already put the hours in!
DS in school for 8.10am and feeling OK. He's stripped his bedroom wall of all his history notes.

I made myself a second cuppa and played Candy Crush for a bit before coming to work.

Oh my goodness yes this all over! I hope you managed some zen with your cuppa and candy crush!

SB1971 · 05/06/2025 11:27

History was “excellent” apparently… am never sure if he is being ironic though.
Will probe more when he arrives home

mojobrojo · 05/06/2025 11:28

So...

Cold War was consequences of bay of pigs & olympic boycotts, narrative of events from 41-45, importance of Comecon, nuclear prevention late 60s or fall of Berlin Wall...

Elizabeth was features of exploration & society, explain how relations with Spain changed, discuss whether religious settlement worked or whether population rises were main reason for poverty...

We're pretty happy with that (I have become so over-invested in these topics!)... moving onto Nazi Germany and the Weimar Republic over the weekend...

Haha! DS has this level of humour too 😂

According to him yesterday he is 'a mathematical genius' errr right-o son Hmm (the boy who we toyed with the idea of changing him to foundation maths)

CoffeeChocolateWine · 05/06/2025 11:38

Just found this thread! I'm going through this too with my DS too so the support is welcome!

He's just come out of history (USA and crime and punishment, I think) and seems really happy! Such a relief as he was dreading this one. His first history paper did not go his way and is generally his stronger one so he was feeling a bit despondent that he'd 'messed up on history'. But this one had some good questions and he reckons he's pulled it back.

Another subject done and dusted! Feels like we're getting through them now.

PrincessOfPreschool · 05/06/2025 10:35

Sorry your DD is still not very well @CatHairEveryWhereNow. My DD a bit worse too today after maths yesterday. Double exam today then Eng lang tomorrow. I'm feeling pretty rough now too. The sore throat and headache has begun 😞.

It's so unfortunate for them. I hope your DD perks for rest of the week and you feel better soon as well.

It's a worry but I wasn't well during my GCSE and I out performed expectations and did exceptionally well - so it's not a given it will count againt them just feels like it might.

After tommorow's English there's five day before next - maths - so finger crossed she rapidly gets better- there's been revision going on there for months at home and school so last few days may mean less.

BellaI · 05/06/2025 11:42

DD very happy with AQA history paper 2. Her teacher has also said the paper was the best paper they could have had! 🤞🤞

CakeFace1234 · 05/06/2025 11:44

My DS had Normans and Medicine. No word from him. Hopefully this means he hasn't had the opportunity to text rather than admitting he'd fluffed it. Fingers crossed.

labradorservant · 05/06/2025 11:46

DD happy with Aqa Elizabeth and medicine. Not as good as p1 but better than she thought. Apparently missing the English ‘masterclass’ as she does not think doing a past paper is very ‘masterclass’. We shall see tomorrow….

rosemarble · 05/06/2025 11:48

"Good I think, can I have some data pls"

So laid back.

The next text will be "what's for dinner?"

Welcome!

Good to hear this paper has gone well for your son as he didn’t feel the last one did. I bet he’s relieved. On the home straight now.

VivaDixie · 05/06/2025 12:09

He is home! I haven't had much out of him tbh other than he thinks he has done 'good I guess' which is good for him! Also better than History 1 when he said 'yep well I have failed that one'.

He seems happy though - he missed one 8 marker, but feels he has done enough on the others. Apparently that predictions website i found was a load of tosh - they never asked anything about William II. Thank goodness he refused to engage with it 😆

Welcome @CoffeeChocolateWine well done your DS Smile

Sounds promising.. oh gosh, the amount of predictions I have been sent via instagram and forwarded on to DS for the topics not to come up! I will be happy to clear all the sites I am following, I am always drawn into them, writing quick flash cards for nothing!

Welcome coffechoc, the support on here has been invaluable for me plus for reassuring DS after an exam that he's not the only one that felt the paper held a stinker of a question.

Bananafofana · 05/06/2025 12:14

Thank you @mojobrojo ! Dc just came out of same exam and all I got was: “poverty question - good” !!

Oh I know - I try not to engage and then I think (with content heavy exams) 'but what if this is true and I haven't told him and it all goes to shit' (yes I catastrophise)

Thankfully he is far more level headed than me and can tell a scam when he sees it!

ExamStuff · 05/06/2025 12:20

I’m pleased History seems to have gone generally well for everyone so far.

My daughter just text and said she was very happy with the paper, AQA Elizabethan and Health. I’m so glad that one is out of the way.

French this afternoon.

ditismooi · 05/06/2025 12:24

DS - aqa history 2 " it went well " one text - phew !

Fightingdragonswithyou · 05/06/2025 12:27

Pearson Edexcel history was "interesting and not in a good way" according to DD.

Questions weren't nice apparently.

First exam she's had a wobble about.

Bananafofana · 05/06/2025 12:14

Haha - that's about all I normally get. It's only that we spent SO long working on this together that I had made it clear 'it was fine' was not an option. I needed to know the exactly what the questions were and how he'd answered them!

Hollyhedge · 05/06/2025 12:32

Won't hear from my DS about Edexcel until after school. Barely thought about it this morning - think my mind has gone to post exam. When I tried to push him to do more revision he said no one will ever give me a job for a 9 in history and no one will ever not give me a job for a 5 in history. Answer for everything that child😩

Just got emails about taster day - anyone else starting to feel emotional about them finishing? Particularly those changing school. Don't get me wrong this year has mostly been v stressful, but it's the end of an era 💙DS has already warned me he won't be here much in the summer...
