Hi all,
I really enjoyed reading previous 11 plus support threads and I think we’re probably ready for a new cohort of year 5s start their prep?

so I thought I’d set up one for next year. All welcome!

we are trying for dame Alice Owen. DD currently has group tutoring once a week but we are looking to increase to twice a week before Xmas.

i am trying to get her to do a cgt GL 15 min tests a day very unsuccessfully! This half term is going to be all about embedding routine 😀

look forward to meeting other parents preparing

Sutton stage 1 done. Can now join parents refreshing emails for the next two weeks or however long it will be to find out if he passed stage 1.

Main thing for me was that he didn't come out upset 😅

I've opted against going to the open evenings of the grammar schools , as I dont want DS to see these amazing places then not be able to attend. 😥

Yes, the timing is shocking: here's what you could have won!

AHS did a summer term open day, but the Floyd didn't this year. Summer term is much better as it gives time for children to focus their final push if they've decided they want to do grammar, and isn't so sharply disappointing if it's 2 weeks before the results come out.

Someone asked earlier about the exams. From the GL my son took , there were the expected questions he said. Although I did look on the exampaperplus website and spot two additional topics had been added for NVR in the last week.

What were they??

we should get results next week - my son also sat Sutton stage 1 today. Based on last year, results came out on the following Tuesday evening...

Oh thanks for the intel!

How did he find it? Mine was very relaxed about it and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing 🤣

Well they have to release the results quickly because the second round is 4 October!
He is Mr relaxed all the time, and came out smiling and also relaxed. He always finds comprehension tricky, but he was pleased he finished everything. I've no idea how it went!!

We've done little prep and he had time to spare for both which makes me a bit worried 😅 but yes other wise, little info shared!

You are lucky if you're in Aylesbury and have more than one upper to choose from - for a lot of Aylesbury, it's Mandeville, or The Grange depending on catchment (or Waddesdon if you're religious).

Wave to my DD who'll be giving one of the tours at Henry Floyd on Thursday! (Annoyingly they won't let my Y5 DD look round until she's in Y6.)

Annoyingly, SHF do if you lie! 😡

This NVR which had a pattern where you had to follow the steps and see what the resulting image would be if you followed the steps.

I find NVR so hard. I just don’t think my brain works that way! I’m fine with all of the maths, english and VR but the NVR is a total non starter it’s like my brain just shuts down when I see it.

Last day of prep for us today. Nice chilled day tomorrow last exam Friday then we are done and just the long wait.
Results are 20th October for Friday’s exam and before 31st October for Monday’s. Last year they came on the same day so might be the same this year but who knows?!

Good Luck for Friday! Hope it goes really well for your DS.

Do we not get an official date for the consortium?I thought we’d get the results a month later but I’ve read it just says “by 31st October”.

troppibambini6 · 17/09/2025 10:10

Last year its was by “X date” but it was around the 20 something of October. The 31st is the deadline for schools applications so I’m guessing the week before. Maybe when it gets nearer the time we will get one?

troppibambini6 · 17/09/2025 10:13

And thank you!! Ds stayed home yesterday and today partly because we thought it would do him good to be away from all the twittering and school not being particularly helpful setting stupid papers but also because he started with a cold.

For him it’s been the best thing he did a paper yesterday and scored 98% which had boosted his confidence. He’s going in tomorrow and football training in the evening. I’m not even mentioning exams or anything related to it!

Ahh that sounds like it worked out perfectly for him! A little break can make such a big difference, especially when he’s not feeling 100%. 98% is amazing, such a confidence boost! Glad he’s going back tomorrow and still keeping up with football too – nice balance. You’re doing the right thing not bringing up exams, he’ll go in feeling so much lighter.

My daughter hasn't done anything meaningful since last week! She's just over it and I don't blame her! She's kind of done with exams unless she makes round 2 DAO - in which case, we won't have long to knock out a few past papers. Oh well, it is what it is at this point. I don't want to force her to do work or argue over it - we find out tomorrow anyway (hopefully)!

Same! Waiting for this post. Downed tools over the weekend. Had a fever Monday morning so kept her off school. Been fine since Monday afternoon, back to school today but has done nothing for days. Has become really stroppy about it all and I’m stressing about a year’s worth of work for it to come to this.

Went to see Hockerill on Saturday as she is in love with the idea of weekly boarding. Have had to remind her that DAO is her no 1 preference and we will worry about the others after the 27th!

Oh gosh, it's hard isn't it? Aside from DAO round 2, is she done with exams? I feel like all momentum has gone now that we've done 4 exams!

Yes - if we get good news tomorrow we will be done on the 27th. But such a huge gap between the 1st and the 27th to try and keep things ticking over

Very long time, especially as they only have 1 machine read paper to mark!

I couldn’t get much info from my DS about this section, but quick google search and it looks like it’s a new (tricky) NVR question type which I know he hasn’t practiced before, so he must have guessed the answers 😥
