Brit School year 12 entry opinions

We are considering the Brit school for my daughter. She is currently in year 9 so we could apply either for year 10 or 12.

I would like to hear from people whose children attend or have attended? What have their experience been? What have they done after they finished year 13.

Hi, not everyone is invited but a lot are - the workshop and the monologues happen the same day and you get invited to both. I know the 6th form ones happen in first 2 weeks of March, I think the Y10 ones happen then too but I cant totally remember.

Thank you,

Do they have to do monologue in front of other students?

no - the workshops with other kids but the monologues are solo - there were two teachers when DS did his for Y10 - one from theatre and one from main curriculum (maths I think).

they asked a few questions - why this monologue, why do you want to come here, how to you think you will manage to do normal GCSEs along with strand, how do you think you will find the journey that kind of thing.

bellocchild · 04/12/2024 21:08

I used to do supply there. They were very keen - but rather a lot of prima donnas!

Hi

DD is in the process of doing her application for year 10. Wondering how much input you put? Did you help with the specific questions?

OP posts:
IamSallyBowles · 09/12/2024 21:37

DS wrote his own - I checked it over for grammar and made a couple of suggestions but it all came from him.

Same for my daughter with the application. I did read it before she sent it but didn’t change anything.

For the year 12 entry for Theatre, in my daughter’s year, there were 2000 applications, about 600/700 got through to the workshops and there were 75 spaces.

Good luck to your daughter

Thank you. Competition seems tough.

DD is doing her application for year 10; we just want to ask about the school reference you have to provide. Shall we request this with current school and attach to the application? Or will the Brit contact the school at a later stage?

DD is doing her application for theatre for year 10; any tips regarding they have to answer? Should they stick to 200 words per question? Or can it be less?

Also, regarding certificates and qualifications already obtained, what do children include?

OP posts:
IamSallyBowles · 19/12/2024 19:45

To be quite honest I cant remember exactly with the reference. It was a long paragraph answer to each question and he didnt have any certificates to show.

Thanks. It doesn’t let us proceed with application unless we put awards and qualifications obtained.

oh - maybe we put predicted grades or something or it has changed since we did it. - DS didnt have any qualifications when he applied for Y10

Thank you; yes. Maybe it has changed or perhaps we should just put none.

Has anyone's DC who auditioned for sixth form musical theatre in December been offered a taster day? I didn't think there was a second round audition? The email says, The second round is designed to give applicants a taste of a typical musical theatre strand day, and for the staff to further assess your suitability for the course.
Was this the same as last year? Is this offered to everyone? Any advice would be appreciated as we weren't told there was another round for MT.

Hopefully someone else will confirm; however it does seem like something new; maybe they can’t make their mind on who to offer a place.

Best of luck

My daughter was helping at MT audition day and she said her teachers told they will call people back (not everyone) for the tester day then decide the final decision from there. This is new for this year. Good luck everyone.

Has anyone heard back from auditions in Jan for Year 12 entries for music. Also, is there a second audition if you are successful after the first?
Finally, has anyone had experience of ELAM and how does it compare to Brit. Anyone else recommend colleges for music performance in and around London?

Thanks

HillsH · 05/02/2025 21:50

My daughter had a music audition beginning of January. Still waiting… we were told 6 weeks so I am not expecting to hear till middle of Feb…. The wait is unbearable lol

Are you inside or outside catchment? We are outside although still live in London, so not sure if the out of catchment, which has even less places than inside catchment, hear at the same time. Are you looking at any other colleges that do the same course?

HillsH · 07/02/2025 22:48

we are in the catchment area but live about an hour away travel wise. She has already been accepted at D&B academy of performing arts for their 3 year diploma course which is great but that’s musical theatre. Ideally she would love to study music at the Brit first as that’s her passion and then maybe go to D&B after depending on where life takes her x

Pegjes44 · 11/02/2025 10:18

The emails went out Friday and Yesterday for MT, Music & Music Tech for the internal kids.
External kids will probably hear soon...

Mumster40 · 11/02/2025 10:57

Could anyone let me know if the internal kids applying for musical theatre strand have received straight offers? Or whether they have to attend the recalls at the end of the month?
