Hi all

It doesn’t look as though one of these threads has been set up yet so I thought I’d do it.

I have a daughter going into year 6 and a son going into year 8 next month - both will be moving to senior school in 2025.

I'm also a firm believer it all works out ok! I have a DS and a DD, both towards the end of their secondary school 'journeys'. They went to a small state primary- about half went to Independent secondaries. Looking at them now, and older children we know, they all did ok! Some of the ones who only got into 'less academic' secondaries have flourished, ending up at Oxbridge and other top unis. Lots have moved schools, especially for sixth form. They're all applying to the same unis etc etc.
Tutoring at the 'top' schools is rife anyway so exam results are not necessarily totally reflective of the teaching. A major factor of your child's happiness is also who their classmates will be and you will have no idea until they start!
Good luck everyone!

Is anyone else still waiting for Blackheath and have any information as to when they will send out info in respect of yes / no decisions for interview stage? Exam was 16th November so feels very long to wait.

househelp12345 · 12/12/2024 18:57

We were thrilled to get good news from CLSG? Does anyone know how many girls were called back?

No but would be interested to know too. We also got good news (hooray!) and now focused on the prep needed for the next stage….

Has anyone heard from St Paul’s boys 13+?

Has anyone heard from St Paul’s boys 13+?

No! We were expecting to today, although I know they did say by tomorrow. Last year they released on the Wednesday… glad others haven’t heard too?!?

Does anyone have any advice on the Hampton and Epsom interviews? Lucky enough to make it though to the next stage for both but would really appreciate any advice!

NHPDH · 12/12/2024 21:24

Thank you!

We are also waiting for the 13+ results! Good luck to us all!

NHPDH · 13/12/2024 10:22

We’ve heard from St Paul’s and have made it through to the test. Good luck to everyone else waiting!

Does anyone know if the Westminster 13+ English test includes comprehension and creative writing? I was surprised that the St Paul’s one has no comprehension!

DagaDiga · 13/12/2024 11:32

Well done to all the girls on SPGS, @11plus2nd hope you had good news too!

11plus2nd · 13/12/2024 18:09

Yes, same here for us. Well done to everyone too. The assessment is expected “the whole day” and no alternative date and they didnt mention how many kids. We do have clash though :(.

Wow, the whole day? Do they say what they are doing for the whole day? And frustrating with the clash. I have noticed there seems to be many clashes with interview/exam days. How frustrating for parents!

Chris705 · 14/12/2024 09:51

We did SPGS "the whole day" assessment last year, if I remember well, the girls had to be there for 8:00, collection 15:30 I think. Our daughter's group was actually ready for collection at 15.15 so maybe be there a little earlier. Look at the published sample papers, they do 3 sections of maths, comprehension paper (3 sections) and I think another paper + they give them lunch so yes, all goes until after 3pm. Good luck with the clash though....we had SPGS clash with another exam on the first round in November. We approached SPGS first asking to allocate my daughter to another group as another school had only 1 exam day...Unfortunately they refused...Luckily, another school was able uo help.

HighRopes · 14/12/2024 10:21

My dd is at SPGS and has helped out on the exam day. They plan in lunch and some other activities (she’s seen singing or dodgeball) so the girls have a break between exams and a chance to move around. It does take a while, as Chris said, to do all the papers.

11plus2nd · 14/12/2024 10:29

Wow, thanks so much for sharing the info. Indeed we havent had the details of how it would be for the day from the school yet. Do you know roughly how many girls for this 2nd round? Especially such a long day. No wonder the registration fee is higher than other schools.

And no motivation to revise at the moment too, so hard, especially during the holiday. Loads of reading for now.

Chris705 · 14/12/2024 10:30

Yes, as HighRopes said, there are some activities in between the exams..My daughter said they're all singing/learning a song on that day so they had fun! Despite a long day, she did not look tired when we collected her. Good luck to all!

PreplexJ · 14/12/2024 10:50

@11plus2nd For SPG about 400 or slightly more candidates are shortlisted for the second round, competing for 120 available places. Around 200 people are interviewed, and certainly more than 120 offers are issued on day one. They also announced an increased intake for senior year students (occasional places or sixth form) due to the VAT.
