Anyone know what a P means under endorsement grade?

A pass in the English speech.

DD was so nervous she didn't want to open her envelope until she got home, which means she didn't sign up for the sixth form while she was there. Is this a problem? It's the sixth form of her currant school and she got the grades needed.
I should email the sixth form head and explain/ask shouldn't I.

Yes I’d definitely email the school

A couple of posts here are talking about remarks.

There's no longer any such thing. It's a review of marking where the marked scripts are looked at to check whether the marking was reasonable: we are not looking for more marks.

A mark one below a boundary is highly unlikely to go up by one to lift the candidate over because of the rules about reviewing.

I strongly recommend seeing scripts first and getting them checked by someone who understands the mark scheme - reviews are expensive, and marks can and do go down as well as up.

Also, if marks change but grades don't, you still have to pay.

Edited

School have stated review, that was my mistake, and they are paying for both maths and English Lit

Depends on their enrolment policy. Ours you had to apply in January this year, offer emails sent out February then on results day, we had till 1pm to fill out a second application, add a personal statement, the name of two teachers to provide a reference, proof of your results and a copy of your behaviour report and now we have to wait while they allocated places to all applicants

Definitely phone and check

Ellerby83 · 22/08/2024 13:46

We had a letter with the grades from the school exams officer saying
"there is a potential problem with the marking" of one of the Religious Studies paper.

So the grade given is subject to change. They would let us know when they find out more but I am confused as to what this could be about.

WarningOfGails · 22/08/2024 13:59

Just putting this here in case anyone else getting worried about everyone enrolling etc right now. I’ve double/triple checked and DD doesn’t have to do anything until her individual enrollment appointment next week. So if you are also wondering if you’ve missed some bit of admin, it clearly varies!

Does anyone know how likely it is to find 1 mark on an English paper? DS is one mark off the next grade in both Lit and Lang.

Isitovernow123 · 22/08/2024 14:01

Zonder · 22/08/2024 08:01

I thought schools had the results already?

Only a select few - we humble teachers have to wait till 0800.

Some amazing results so, overall, very happy!

Panic71 · 22/08/2024 14:01

DC1 got a lower mark on English language than expected in 2019. This was reviewed and she went up by four marks (!) and I to the next grade up.

loulouljh · 22/08/2024 14:06

Not great here...only passed 4. Failed maths which was not expected. Passed English. College courses now all up in the air. DC did not work hard enough and that has become very clear today...tough though when contemporaries did well and are celebrating.

OMG DD GOT A 9 in lit. She got a 3 in march mocks!!

It is tough, and all media focuses on those who got 9s across the board! This is a step to the next stage and if this step has been tripped on they are young enough to find an alternative route.

Yes not good. Retakes possible if normally good at maths ?

Vespanest · 22/08/2024 14:28

It’s the curve balls that gcse throw, trying to work out what bests to say to my niece who has maintained 6/7/8 all through mocks and predicted grades who got one grade 9 and seven grades in the 3/2/1 range. Never mind her A level are off the table she has a few weeks to decide what’s next. She has suffered from anxiety since her dad became seriously ill in year seven but no one was expecting her to be this heavily impacted by anxiety. Her class teacher has phoned my sister devastated for her and offered to write her letters of support.

Not very. Request the scripts and ask the school to check for any obvious errors.

Ds is one mark off a 4 in maths so I've asked for a review.

Knownoone · 22/08/2024 14:38

My DD scored differently than her predicted grades. Will the school deny admission because of it.

DS is 1 mark off a 4 Eng Lit, school are discussing it and letting me know what they think. He doesn't need it, he got 5s in sciences, maths and eng lang which his needs for apprenticeship but I think it is worth it as so close to a pass.

Is a 3 considered a pass still, just not a high enough one?

Knownoone · 22/08/2024 14:40

@Philandbill How many days did the review/reval process take? All sixth form admissions would be done by then.

PugInTheHouse · 22/08/2024 14:42

Can anyone help re grade boundaries please, trying to work out AQA history foundation papers, my friends DS got 1 4, a 3 and the rest 2s so not even enough for a L2 course currently. He was 2 marks off 3,3 in science but I can't work out the History marking for her, she is desperate to know before going to college meeting, if he can scrape onto a L2 course he would be really happy. The 4 was in Eng Lang. I could figure out the others but can't work out history for her, the marks look like they are a 1 not a 2 when I look at the grade boundary info so I must be misunderstanding

History AQA
8145/1A/B History FA 9
8145/1B/B History BA 14
8145/2A/C History AJ 6
8145/2B/A History AA 5

Weeks and weeks I'm afraid. She took English language in year 10 and got a 4 which was not expected. Review took her to a 5. When the school supplied grades were released in 2020 as that was the first COVID year she got a 9 in English literature - her highest grade in all subjects- so a massive disparity between the two. 🤔It's all very stressful.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 22/08/2024 14:50

DS did exceptionally well. But credit to him as he worked bloody hard. He’s a KEVI grammar school student so the pressure was on and he needed 7’s and 8’s to get into 6th form. He got 2 9’s, 5 8’s, 2 7’s and a 6 (in Latin).

For him this is an expected level due to his ability but we are very proud.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/08/2024 14:52

Sorry to hear of the results that weren’t as expected and have affected future plans.

I’m very glad that we still have letters here in Wales. I mean, in my day there wasn’t even an A* so the thought of getting a result even higher than that blows my mind tbh!

Ds has done extremely well with a distinction in additional maths and 9* to go with the 3 A* that he got in year 10. He worked very hard and is chuffed to bits, as are we.
