Thanks :)

Nearly there! Mine only has 3 left after geography paper 2 today. Ive found it very nerve-racking going through this with him. Older child was teacher assessed year and it all seemed a lot more low key.

Can someone remind me what day they get their results?

Also, just out of interest, do any children have 3 papers for a subject for GCSEs?

Stoufer · 05/06/2024 10:33

I think (from memory) 22nd August. Yes, three papers for a few: maths, history, languages.

Tiredalwaystired · 05/06/2024 10:33

Results day is 22 August

DD has three papers in geography, Latin and maths. Brutal.

AIstolemylunch · 05/06/2024 10:47

That does seem brutal and surprises me. Mine is doing mainly IGCSE which are 2 papers for everything (and double award science only do one paper for each science).

Seems much more of a natural progression to do 2 papers at GCSE and then 3 at A level. Are the 3 papers 2 hours long?

Waspie · 05/06/2024 11:01

Thanks for the new thread @Techno56

My son had three papers in maths and in mandarin (well four if you include speaking).

DS is actually relieved that they have three in maths as he didn't feel he did very well in paper 1 but it's only a third of the marks instead of half, so more chance to pull back to a decent grade.

newmum1976 · 05/06/2024 11:11

DD has 3 in geography and history- 1:30 or 1:45 each.

WarningOfGails · 05/06/2024 11:12

Nothing today for DD which is nice as it’s her birthday! And only Eng Lang tomorrow ‘which you can’t revise for’…

No. The third Latin paper is an hour and maths and Geography are both an hour and a half.

However she has said she finds paper three easier in all the subjects. It’s just a shame she still can’t put any of those subjects to bed yet.

AIstolemylunch · 05/06/2024 11:15

Ha ha, they should actually rename it English Laguage No Revision Necessary shouldn't they?

Tiredalwaystired · 05/06/2024 11:16

Pretty happy with Geography is the report. Although totally pissed off that the nine marker wasn’t on Rio as she spent aaaaages revising that. I just said at least she will be a bit of help in pub quizzes so it’s not all wasted.

Waspie · 05/06/2024 11:18

Happy birthday to your daughter @WarningOfGails!

DS tried pulling the "you can't revise for English language" on me earlier but I shoved the Oxford AQA revision guide I bought him after the mocks under his nose (spine as yet unbroken) and told him that I wanted two hours before tea time or I wouldn't take him to his tennis match this evening Grin

Glad it went well. Haha - that sounds familiar! We're playing a lot of trivial pursuit at the moment Grin

AIstolemylunch · 05/06/2024 11:24

Again abother hollow laugh at 'spine unbroken' - like the Highway Code and driving theory test books I bought my older one, not knowing that its comsiderd a sign of weakness to open a book now while learning to drive and its all done on apps.

Absolutely this.

DD has even implied that it's quite handy that the Eng Lang exam (AQA) is morning, because that gives virtually the whole day to revise for a Biology on Friday. It's as though the exam isn't on her radar at all!

GlomOfNit · 05/06/2024 11:57

I can't remember which exam board geography is, and I'm not at home ( phone can't cope with downloading the exam schedule!) so can't even go online and see what students thought of it! 😂Oh well. DS was very chill about it this morning. Just hope it was as straightforward as he said it would be....

I intend to sit him down in front of some YouTube Eng Lang videos when he gets back. I know all his efforts this week are now aimed at biology on Friday though. (IS it biology on?)

WarningOfGails · 05/06/2024 12:00

I think for the very able who are strong in English you probably don’t need to revise much, but I do worry about DD’s boyfriend who might not pass it listening to DD claiming it’s not possible to revise for it! I’m sure he could benefit from cracking open his revision guide…

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 05/06/2024 12:01

Thanks for the new thread @Techno56

@WarningOfGails happy birthday to your DD!

DS has three papers for Maths, History, Geography and Spanish. It all seems so unnecessary!

Geography Edexcel this morning was OK but some weird questions apparently. He's now looking at AQA Eng Lit for tomorrow. Although he might just be on his phone - who knows!

Edexcel Biology IGCSE is on Friday, and they do seem to be correlating i.e the IGCSE and the GCSE on the same day, but im not sure. Theres definitely not a correlation beween different exam boards from what I can see as DS has already done and finished English Lit and Lang (for which he did minimal revision of course).

Newlease · 05/06/2024 12:12

not sure of the board on this one, but Geo was really hard and apparently kids are crying. one of DDs worst paper to score, loves the subject, but not good at writing exams. I really hope they will leave it behind and concentrate on next exam, that’s business. And No revision Lang group here as well. At this point, I also want her to concentrate on Biology, lol
anyone else heard anything about Geography ? DD’s is a high achieving GS, if that’s any indicator of the feelings

CactusPeach · 05/06/2024 12:27

@AIstolemylunch 3 papers for maths, history and geography, 4 in total for English (literature & language) and 2 each for physics, biology and chemistry double award science.

newmum1976 · 05/06/2024 12:29

DD very happy with Edexcel geog. It is her strongest subject though, so not sure how helpful that is. English tomorrow will be very different 😭

Babachew · 05/06/2024 12:33

AQA Geography Paper 2 was really good - but not as good as Paper 1!

7 more to go. Groan.

BestsellingWine · 05/06/2024 12:34

AQA geography not too good from a strong student here as well @Newlease . Said the 9 markers were very different to previous papers
