Hi

My son was involved in an incident 1.5 yrs ago where himself and a friend were mess fighting and it was recorded. He had only started in school. It wasn't in school but they were in school uniform. I know the other boy, they are friends and both were laughing through it. Not punching more wrestling each other.

The school have now seen the video from going through another boys phone. I've meeting with school today, don't know what to expect punishment wise

No there isn't at all. He hasnt been in trouble since. There was a fight last month in the year group where a boy ended up hurt, but not my son's class and no involvement in it.

They went through a boys phone and found this video. I've spoken to school but have another call today with them so they would have told me if any more to it.

Unless there is more with the other boy that I'm unaware of

only speculation here 🤷

but i would be very surprised if there isn’t more to this. And you will no doubt find out today

likely

teenboymom · 19/03/2024 10:27

Sorry my point about the other fight is, I think they are coming down hard on them and pulling up any incidents. They are very very strict

It seems strange that they’ve gone through the boys phone and found this video. Sadly I think there’s more to this that you’ll find out about in the meeting.

sounds like a good school

Snugglemonkey · 19/03/2024 10:28

They are concerned about something more than you are seeing right now.

teenboymom · 19/03/2024 10:28

Do you think they can suspend him for this alone though? They are talking about suspension

op just wait for the meeting. it’s today… yes?

teenboymom · 19/03/2024 10:29

They are very intolerant on bullying which is great

teenboymom · 19/03/2024 10:29

Yes it's today. Just getting nervous for call!

The school have no right going through a pupils’ phone for a start.

They have a duty to follow up on any safeguarding concerns. That doesn't mean your son will be punished - he and his friend and any witnesses may just need to explain the context so the school can record the incident accurately on their safeguarding system

again

there will be more to this than the sketchy and scant info provided in op

teenboymom · 19/03/2024 10:41

What to do you sketchy and scant? I've given you everything I know

exactly

which is sketchy and scant and there will be a lot more to this

idontlikealdi · 19/03/2024 10:44

There's definitely more to this.

sblitit · 19/03/2024 11:02

@teenboymom I think you started the thread for support, but you're just getting unhelpful and speculative comments which will make you more anxious.

If you have more info to share after the meeting then you might get more helpful comments. But my comment up thread about safeguarding seems the most likely scenario based on what you have told us so far.

ApricotLime · 19/03/2024 11:05

For a fight 18 months ago that the kids were laughing throughout, no I don't think he'll be suspended. Would be silly for something 18 months ago at this age.

Yes, they do. They can search a pupil's phone if they have reason to believe it contains pornographic images, or that is being used or has been used to commit an offence or cause personal injury. If the school has introduced rules banning other content, they can also search a pupil's phone for that content.

CurlewKate · 19/03/2024 12:06

It sounds as if the video is in current circulation in the school- do you know why?
