This question may sound ridiculous, but grateful for thoughts

DD entering secondary school next year, year 7, so at some point before then will be buying her a first mobile phone.

I am conscious of stories, mainly from the US, of blue bubble / green bubble bullying, and wondered whether this was a thing over here (we are SW London). We are a family of Android users, so being able to buy her Android would be easier for us from an ecosystem perspective (and probably cost), but don't want to immediately alienate her with her peers.

(I'm conscious also that Apple is finally getting onboard with RCS next year, so perhaps this will make this less of a problem)

This thread is a bit old now, but if you have landed here looking for recommendations, we've recently updated our guides to the best dumb phone for kids and best phones for kids featuring phones tried and tested by Mumsnet parents.

We hope you find this useful.

I’ve never heard of anything like this. Quite a few of DD’s friends had Android phones at that age and whilst they certainly would’ve preferred to have an iPhone instead it never caused any issues beyond that.

Lots of kids are anti Apple too.

Do you mean they are getting bullied because they don't have an Apple device?
