Devon grammar places anyone else waiting?

Anyone else waiting to hear? Not long now. I wonder how many they sent the letters out too above the allocated places. Feels like it's been such a long wait. Good luck everyone!

Oh no, hope you are feeling ok this morning hope, fingers crossed for the waiting list. Where did you get allocated?
We are non the wiser as - as I predicted the authorities can't cope with only 5 months to share data and Ive not received any offers yet!.... not holding my breath I think Its going to take a few phone calls before I get any answers!

It seems such a terrible system honestly to not advise parents on how many years letters they send out, or give an indication of whether yes actually means yes. So upsetting for kids and their parents to give 5 months of waiting, thinking they've almost certainly got a place. I know of a couple of older children who were set to go to Torquay and then got a waiting list place at a different school in the summer holidays (probably due to children heading to independents releasing their places finally), meaning their Torquay places must have gone to children on the waiting list. Hopefully if you choose to join the waiting list they're more communicative with you!

It isn't a very nice process. Passing the exam and then to not get a place. They do word the letter to communicate it's not an offer of a place. It's difficult to try and prepare your child.

We didn't get in either 😢 on wait list. Stuffed now as we have no school offererd

You didn't get allocated any school at all?! Surely they have to give you something! Gosh, fingers crossed for quick movement on the waiting list 🤞

No as we were applying from our old address, (we move in 2weeks) so as it stands we have no school to go to!
I don't know how to tell her.... it's going to break her heart.

I hope the waitlist moves for you. I think I'm going to struggle to get mine to go if the waitlist moves now as his friends are excited he's going to school with them.

How can they not allocate a school?

Because we currently live elsewhere we have been allocated a school here...... 150 miles away from where we will be living!
Going to have to wait till we move and then put in a late application to Torbay council. I hope that wont remove us from the wait lists of the grammars.

I e mailed the school but haven't heard back. Imagine they have been inundated. I'm not sure if you can do it any other way?

I rang the local council but they said the information was inaccurate and to contact the school. Will have to wait for the e mail.

I've emailed the Schools now too, so nothing more I can do. I'm in shock to be honest and feel like ive ruined my daughters life with this house move 😢

I hope you hear from them soon. Are you moving to Torquay? They have lots of schools I'm sure a space will be available. I know it's hard not to worry.

Yes, we are relocating for my husband's work, its turned into a nightmare now!

We had allocation day last year. Whilst we got our first choice I know so many who didn't which on allocation day is a nightmare. Speak to the schools and authorities, there will be movement on wait lists over the next few weeks/months

my DD got a place at tggs. i know one more who got in and one on wait list.

Lots of kids i know got into churston

I think you can find out where you are on the wait list somehow? last year both kids i knew on the wait list got offered places in the summer.

@movingtodevon1 if you need any help on opinions on other schools in Torbay from a local then i can try and help.

They can't confirm waitlist places until after second place allocations at the end of April....

Well.....! my husband rang TGGS and they said there must have been an almighty cock up in the council's admissions office (I assume my home town one) as my DD is on their list to start in September!
I still can't believe it, the range of emotions today have been off the chart!
I did think it strange that after 3 yes's she didn't even make the grammar stream!

Did you put down the grammar stream at spires or Churston? Im sure three yes's should have sufficed for one of them?

No. My son didn't like Spires and Churston wasn't logistically an option with getting my daughter to school.
