Compulsory lanyards. Any other schools?

So my dc school are brining in compulsory lanyards. It's a small secondary, around 600 children. They have their photo/info on the front and on the back, all their behaviour points. They spent a whole day going through this on the first day back.

I really don't see the need for this. Since the new headteacher has arrived its started to be like a boot camp.. Really strict rules and sanctions. I think they're preparing to join the really strict academy that are taking over the schools around here.

I've never heard of secondary school children wearing lanyards well it's the school around here that is.

You can see it’s a lanyard.

It's a photo of a behaviour card on top of a lanyard.

Presumably if it was kept inside the lanyard, the lanyard owner would have the ability to not have it facing the world.

80% of pupils at the school described behaviour as good.

So if a kid is pissing about in the corridor you would rather that the teacher on duty had no way of finding out who they are or be able to record their poor behaviour?

Do you know the school?

Not really what I said. Also the report is about what they were bothered about at the school. Sock colours etc.

Paying for lunch? My DC school used thumbprints…

😬

noblegiraffe · 06/01/2024 17:55

But you object to behaviour records being kept by the pupil, which is done so that the teacher in the corridor has access to them. So you don’t want that to happen?

Most schools can manage this without this level of censorship.

This is reminding me why the parent in the clip is the only one willing to be filmed.

Are you absolutely sure you mean 'censorship' here?

Mywhoopdeedoo · 06/01/2024 18:17

‘Censorship’ give over !!!

Congratulations guys you have managed to bully your arguments to the fore by finding something that might be successfully argued to your advantage.

No, they don’t. Can assure you that not being able to identify pupils in the corridor is a massive impediment to improving behaviour in unstructured time.

Mywhoopdeedoo · 06/01/2024 18:24

Now am really confused! Is pp saying pupils carrying behaviour cards is 'censorship'?!

I've seen some madness re parents rallying against any form of recognition that poor behaviour should be addressed but this really really befuddled me!

I didn’t say I objected to them as ID cards. No one should walk around with their misdemeanours it’s no different from being asked to wear a ‘dunce’ placard. This school was lining kids up and marking cards, imagine if HR did that to you.

Wrong colour socks is not bad behaviour. Thumping someone is different.

From what I have read, it will be a form of identification but also a conduct card where warnings etc will be written. Not sure how that will work.
The kids sense that some of the teachers are not liking the changes either.
Will see how it goes! I guess we just liked the school how it was but certainly won't be getting my pitchforks out on fb or anything!

So if a nefarious visitor to the school would like to get more information on a student who catches their eye they can literally just read their name which they're carrying round on their front? Doesn't sound brilliant for safeguarding to me.

Mywhoopdeedoo · 06/01/2024 19:04

Nefarious visitors won't get very far without their lanyards.
