Anyone else DS sat the tests this term? Any idea when we might know a decision?

Hello, how’s everyone doing with the school selection? We just accepted RGSG after being so impressed from their offer holder day. Would be great to connect with others joining the school.

Hi, could i please ask about this offer holder day as i didn't receive any info about that. My son got accepted for 13 plus. Was this event for 11 plus only?

Hokilaris · 25/02/2024 10:58

Hi, the offer holder day we attended on Friday was only for 11+. Our friend’s son also holds a 13+ offer and have been told the offer holder day for 13+ will be later on. Might be worth ringing or emailing if you wanted a date.

FNS · 25/02/2024 11:40

Thank you so much for explaining.

yellowrose9 · 25/02/2024 11:46

Hi. We too have accepted RGS

Congratulations ! Well done to your son @themidimit So relived to hear the good news today. Now on a mission to find a house nearby. What areas are nearby which would be short commute to the school. Any advice would be appreciated.

You could look for somewhere near any station on the Waterloo to Guildford lines, especially the ones that stop at London Road as that is about 7 mins walk from the school. Places like Effingham Junction, Cobham, Oxshott. It's pretty lovely all around that area - lively, safe villages, loads of green space.

Hokilaris · 26/02/2024 07:20

@yellowrose9 @themidimit Yay! Will your boys be taking the train as well? Looking forward to September

yellowrose9 · 26/02/2024 10:31

Hi

Yes my son will be taking the train.

Wingingit2024 · 26/02/2024 13:38

Following the meeting on Friday we have also accepted for my son. He will be getting the train from Claygate. We did the journey on Friday and it seems straight forward.

Does anyone know how many boys sat the RGS 11+ this year? I have asked the school but they wouldn't give the information out. The only reason I ask is every boy who I know who sat it got in, so wondering if they all did well or if there wasn't as much interest for places this year?

enoughexams · 28/02/2024 17:47

I don't know how many sat the exam this year but 2 boys (out of 4) didn't get in from my son's school

I too know one boy who didn't get in. But he wasn't from RGS prep

Pyrfwondering · 29/02/2024 07:30

@BrightonSky you'll be added to ClassList (an app that connects all parents) in the next couple of months. During the account set up, people can put in where they live (choice to make it public or not) and you'll be able to see who lives close to Walton, in First Form. Lots of boys travel from Walton in other years. DS has a couple of friends who travel from Walton (Fourth Form'ers)

Hi everyone we’re applying for the 2025 entry to RGS for our son. He is currently in year 5. It’s our first time and all this application stuff is new to us. I’m hoping that some of you in here that got offers for RGS can help out a bit by guiding me how their sons prepared for the iseb exam and if someone can suggest a tutor if they had one. We have been using ATOM learning recently and had a subscription for century tech since last summer that we have now stopped since switching over to ATOM. We have been doing mock tests and lots of practice. Any advice regarding how to increase chances to have a chance for getting an offer will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone knows how is aldershot area specially where they are building a lot of new builds- not sure if it’s called Wellesley area. Do RGS boys travel from there. Is the commute easy.
Many thanks

Hi. It all depends on your boy and the school. I found good Prep Schools really preparing children for 11+ . We did just ATOM. In fact a lot of it. We found dedicating a lot of time on feedback and practice was most crucial rather than doing one test after another. We only used BOND as a trial because ISEB has endorsed their questions, but the drawback is that they don't give a very good cohort comparison and revision questions. Probably this has changed with more people subscribing to Century.

We had to work on a lot on comprehension as my son isn't a natural reader. CGP books very helpful to fill this gap. Good luck to your son. Maybe talk to school early to know their thoughts on suitable schools. Good luck!

rendevouz · 02/03/2024 08:37

Thanks @starsky22 . Not sure, it’s a mixed review.

Gymnogene · 16/03/2024 17:59

Hi,

Huge congratulations on all of those successful in getting a place at RGS this year. I hope your boys are very happy there.

If you are happy to share, I'd be grateful if you could give me an indication of the CAT scores your boys had or you think they require to get into RGS?

My son has good scores (mid to very upper 120s), but not exceptional (ie: 130 plus) and I just want to gauge if RGS would be a good option for us, and importantly if he did get in, that he could keep up comfortably.

Thank you!

yellowrose9 · 16/03/2024 21:15

Hi

More than CAT score I relied on ATOM scores and aimed to get mastery score in that. RGS likes mathematicians. If I remember right by end of August, maths SAS score was 142 and English and VR mid 120s. They don't look at NVR unless absolutely necessary. Good luck

Gymnogene · 16/03/2024 21:23

@yellowrose9 Thank you! That's very helpful.

Bearmary · 16/03/2024 23:51

Maths was 135-140 and VR 128 and English 125ish. Agree RGS likes mathematicians.
