Channing anti semitic graffiti

afewtoomanychoices · 05/11/2023 21:37

I understand no doubt the senior management will do everything they can to find the culprits. However is this a culture within Channing or is this a worry all other private schools might follow? I don’t necessarily ‘blame’ the school, they would never promote hate like this. However it is likely from conversations heard at the girls home or elsewhere. Who knows? Just wondering others thoughts on this .. where do we go from here?

I guess trying to stop people killing and hating each other. No other way is there? Obviously there’s high emotion all round and schools will have to calm the situation within their community. Hard to do I think.

itsmyp4rty · 06/11/2023 09:34

I think it's really, really worrying. If it had been 'down with Israel' or a comment on Netanyahu then that is one thing and can lead to discussion - but where on earth do you go with something as hateful and extreme as 'kill Jews'?

balletscmallet · 06/11/2023 09:46

Agree that it's really worrying. I don't think it can just be put down to 'high emotion all round'. It's vile antisemitism.

Not sure "high emotion" is an excuse for something as vile as this. Hopefully they find the perpetrators and and throw the book at them.

'is this a worry all other private schools might follow?'
Strange and somewhat offensive thing to say as well..

Foxesandsquirrels · 06/11/2023 10:23

It's a school with a very high population of Jewish kids so I have no doubt they're taking it seriously. Equally a lot of parents there will have links to the papers etc so that's probably why it's ended up there. This wouldn't be in the news otherwise. Sadly things like this are written in school toilets up and down the country. Not necessarily aimed at Jews but overall just hatred towards minorities.

Supersimkin2 · 06/11/2023 10:25

Horrible. Hope they don’t let the vicious little freaks off with a caution.

Wwwnothingdotcom · 06/11/2023 10:33

I don't understand UK's "tolerance" on this topic. In my native country (cemtral europe, not germany), it would be a crime, investigated and pupil expelled. Happened when I was in highschool to one neoN twat. And we didn't even have jewish students as far as I know. It's also crime to deny holocaust and other proven genocides.

TizerorFizz · 06/11/2023 10:50

Clearly this hatred was written down . Plenty of hatred is evident towards other minorities too but not necessarily written. No doubt the Palestinians would understand this. So of course a school will investigate. Not guaranteed to get answers though. Going forward they need a cohesive school community and must strive for this. These issues have been going on since Biblical times. I have little hope of reconciliation now. What we need to do is try and ensure hatred doesn’t spread here. From anyone. We must avoid children taking sides and allowing emotion to run away with them.

afewtoomanychoices · 06/11/2023 10:56

Why’s that offensive? I’m referring to a particular type of school , mainly the London independents but then of course going further.
it’s just worrying that young teenage girls are already carrying this level of hate. Also Jews don’t represent ‘Israel’ so for them to be targeted in my opinion is scary and worrying. Children whatever their background should be safe at school and it should be a neutral place. I just was thinking if this will spread … I do hope they find the culprits and they are expelled but then it might be hard to find without someone owning up

Personally I think children need to understand why what they have done is wrong. It’s all very well taking a hard line but we just exacerbate issues by doing this. Maybe a trip to a former concentration camp would help? We do have to accept all hatred is not acceptable and neither are war crimes. Brining hatred of thousands of years history here isn’t great either.

It will not spread because it's a daily occurrence in schools across the country. The only reason this is getting any news coverage is because there is a massive population of jewish pupils in this school who most likely have parents in the right circles. Jamie Olivers kids went here, that sort of thing.
Anytime there is a conflict of sorts, be that this or Ukraine or anything else, this happens in schools.
So to answer your question, no it won't spread as it already has if that makes sense.
I agree with PP that schools in Continental Europe take this sort of thing far more seriously than UK schools. I don't know why.

You think whoever wrote "Kill Jews" doesn't understand why that's wrong?

Whoever did this is not the victim here. I hope that when they're found they're expelled, for the sake of the Jewish students and the school. Not rewarded with a trip abroad.

TizerorFizz · 06/11/2023 12:02

I think we need a deeper understanding of what was a Dc thinking when they wrote this. We are heading towards street warfare here if Dc really believe this. If Dc feel like this, any maybe a lot do, excluding them from society (a school) doesn’t make the problem go away. It makes it worse. As many nations find. Eg Israel and Palestinians.

What? The police were called about it and I've no doubt the pupil will be expelled if they find who it is. Where are you getting the idea this is being tolerated??

calyrex · 06/11/2023 12:26

What they were thinking? It's hate, pure and simple. Do you make excused for all racism or just antisemitism?

If they are not excluded then what message does that sent to Jewish pupils? That they have to go to school every day with someone who wrote "Kill Jews" and got away with it?

TizerorFizz · 06/11/2023 12:54

Look at what others feel
in reverse. Sadly it’s not hatred in one direction is it? Look at death numbers of innocent people in Gaza and possible war crimes. It’s truly awful from all of them but these people and their views are embedded in our society. It’s not going away any time soon. So many people are filled with intolerance and hatred now.

The Jewish students at this school who are no doubt terrified have fuck all to do with what's going on in Gaza.

feellikeanalien · 06/11/2023 13:26

I imagine a lot of the responses on here would be rather different if the graffiti was in relation to POC.

I despair about what is happening in Gaza and do not back the actions of the Israeli government. I am also quite horrified with the belief, which seems fairly common on here, that because the Netanyahu government are acting as they are that anti-semitic comments are just a price that Jewish people in the UK have to pay.

HermioneWeasley · 06/11/2023 13:31

I hope the perpetrators are caught and their families are visited by “prevent”.

It is hatred in one direction. As far as I know Jewish pupils haven't been sprawling threatening graffiti.

TizerorFizz · 06/11/2023 19:37

You cannot separate what’s now going on in Gaza from the earlier atrocity. It’s all awful. The whole lot of them. You cannot say any of the behaviours have been great for thousands of years. Being Palestinian cannot be much fun either. Children have died. The whole scenario is mind bogglingly awful. I despair and disengage from right wing Israelis and terrorists called Hamas. Both worry me and DC are influenced. Sadly.

Why are you so determined to make excuses for someone writing anti-semetic threads at a school? You think the little shit who wrote it did it because they're concerned about the plight of Children in Gaza?

Fallenangelofthenorth · 06/11/2023 19:56

Why are the twee acronyms still being used when referring to racist little shits? There's nothing "dear" or "darling" about them, so I don't think calling them "DCs" is appropriate.

I'm surprised the school don't know who's written this. Don't private schools have a problem with vaping in the toilets? There's camera's in every single toilet block at my daughter's school.

I agree @afewtoomanychoices it's really worrying and also abhorrent. And of course it's not excusable by what's happening in the middle east, which is fuck all to do with Jewish kids in Highbury. I see the usual racists have appeared as they do on every thread highlighting antisemitism in the UK.
