11 plus support thread for exams 2024

ElvenDreamer · 11/10/2023 08:55

Hi all,
Anyone fancy joining me for for an 11 plus support thread for those yr 5s who are probably just starting a bit of prep now ready to sit exams in September 2024?

State grammar is the angle I'm personally coming from but all welcome no matter if you're applying to private selective, state aptitude tests etc.

This will be my 3rd and final time of going through this and I've found support threads here really useful the previous times.

Congratulations to your DS @SquashSqueezee ! That's fantastic news!

MyWiseCritic · 11/10/2024 16:09

ah that’s good to know, I’m gloucestershire too and been starting to anxiously refresh my email. Wish it was today though!

RandomUsernameHere · 11/10/2024 16:10

Fingers crossed for everyone getting their results today. I have not heard anything, so assuming it will be next week.

Results are in and he’s passed with a high score so feeling confident he will get a place. The relief is immense and I cannot wait to tell him after school! Such an emotional rollercoaster and thinking of everyone still waiting for results

Brilliant news! Congrats!

Danascully2 · 11/10/2024 16:19

We had some good news just now :)

Danascully2 · 11/10/2024 16:23

Good luck everyone!

SquashSqueezee · 11/10/2024 16:29

Thanks everyone! Found out at least one of my son’s friends also has a solid pass so fingers crossed will get a place. Going to get the application done this weekend then just the long wait to March until it’s official.

Great news @Danascully2! are you in an area where a pass is enough or a super selective? I only know of 5 kids sitting the Grantham GL as we’re in next county so joined what results are like on the whole.

Danascully2 · 11/10/2024 16:53

His result should get him a place at our nearest grammar -will obviously have to wait for confirmation in March but we should be ok, not too much suspense.
Hope you get what you want in March.

RandomUsernameHere · 11/10/2024 16:56

Great news @Danascully2 congratulations!

yoshiblue · 11/10/2024 17:12

Congrats @Danascully2

Looks like both Trafford results are going to be next week at the earliest!

troppibambini6 · 11/10/2024 17:20

@SquashSqueezee and @Danascully2 fabulous news for them!!!

ElvenDreamer · 11/10/2024 17:23

Ah lovely to see some good news coming in. Fingers crossed for all of us still waiting!

So long to wait, It's agonising. Well, for me at least. DD seems to have forgotten all about it!

yoshiblue · 11/10/2024 17:38

@slaybell I've been doing quite well but the next week will be agony. I asked DS and all the kids have stopped talking about it and back to being 10 which is nice!

PencilVania · 11/10/2024 17:53

So DS was deemed selective in for the grammar schools in our neighbouring borough, but not in the top set of candidates - just got the result.
Really pleased with the result as DS only did 1 or 2 Atom practice tests about 9months ago.

Not as familiar with this boroughs process - should I take this as a good or ok result? Is it dependent on how close DS was to the cut off score?

troppibambini6 · 11/10/2024 18:10

@yoshiblue and @slaybell I feel your pain!! Next week is going to feel soooo long.

Examstressargh · 11/10/2024 18:19

I’m Trafford too, I don’t understand why Traffords website says results will be received tomorrow via post!

Really? Where is this??

Really? Where is this??

It’s this. It’s caused some confusion on the WA groups but it’s not an official site and it seems to have lots of inaccurate information in it!

Ah! I was hopeful there for a second.

I think they could appear at any point between now and 31/10. They won't give an exact date cause if there is any kind of delay I imagine they would be swamped with calls.

Just frustrating not knowing when!

I know, it’s so annoying when everyone else seems to have an actual date! I was expecting the 24th initially but Ambrose has said before 21st and Loreto has said before 23rd so I think there’s a good chance we might get them in 17th 🤞

It's good news for us too! No tutors, no giving up clubs, instruments or a social life. Just earnest, steady and consistent hard work. Really proud of our DC. Congratulations to all those who got positive results. Thoughts also for those reading whose result was short of the cut off. It's just the beginning of another path to success, I'm sure. This thread has been really supportive at wobbly times this academic year. Very grateful @ElvenDreamer for taking initiative to set up. Hope those waiting don't have too much longer and can keep positively distracted xxxx

Araminta1003 · 11/10/2024 19:59

I just wanted to say that for anyone who hasn’t passed the work is never in vain. The child usually goes on to do well in their KS2 SATS and often goes into higher sets in other schools and their hard work, bravery to take on the challenge and resilience should be celebrated.

There are some disappointed children at DCs school today, but watching this process over years, it’s clear that those types of children end up doing very well in other types of schools too at GCSEs etc, and it’s very important to celebrate their efforts. It’s just a snapshot on a day and can be easy to miss a few marks or let nerves get the better of you.

ElvenDreamer · 11/10/2024 20:03

@121212YNWA and @Araminta1003 I agree with you both, that's what I've been telling my DS all along, everything he's learned with stand him in good stead wherever he goes. It is not a wasted process no matter what the result. Still hope the result goes the right way though!

Well, it's bad news for us. 5 marks short so no place for DD. She's fine, came out saying she did her best but she wasn't sure it was good enough. I honestly don't know where to apply for her now.
