11 plus support thread for exams 2024

Hi all,
Anyone fancy joining me for for an 11 plus support thread for those yr 5s who are probably just starting a bit of prep now ready to sit exams in September 2024?

State grammar is the angle I'm personally coming from but all welcome no matter if you're applying to private selective, state aptitude tests etc.

This will be my 3rd and final time of going through this and I've found support threads here really useful the previous times.

Thank you @MincemeatMaestro ! Luckily she seems really happy and excited about it despite her friends not going, which is a relief! She's had to wait all day to find out as I didn't get the results until 9 this morning

Congratulations to your DD @RandomUsernameHere that’s a shame about her friends but at least she doesn’t seem to be bothered by it. Will you go and see the grammar school again or are you both sure it’s first choice?

How lovely to have some good news to start off the results season, let’s hope it’s a good omen for the rest of us!

Thats great news also your daughter is ok about her friends not going, this is another of my worries but one bridge at a time!

Definitely a family effort isn't it, for the DCs and me anyway. I had to sack DH as a tutor quite early on for getting the maths wrong.

Hi, i am new to this and have been sharing your pain with 11+ . We are waiting the results for my DD. Would anybody know when the results are out in Gloucestershire? They only told mid-oct but definitely before 31st. My brain cannot cope with not having a date 🙄🤣and am hoping someone knows from previous years roughly what date these were sent out. Many thanks, and all the best to all of you who are still waiting.

Hi @Magamu we have also been told mid-October for DS, it's so annoying isn't it! We're not Gloucestershire, but DD did GL Assessments papers and her results took 13 days. We were given the exact date in advance for the results. I'm wondering if the reason for not specifying a date is because they will upload the results as soon as they are available, rather than waiting. Also speculating as to whether the 11th counts as "mid-October" at a push!

Are you Trafford? The site that says 11th is wrong every year apparently (it also says by post which they aren’t) I’m working on the assumption that it’ll be 24th though the 17th is a possibility

@Moglet4 no we're not Trafford, I was just wondering about the 11th as that would be the same number of days between exam and results as it was for DD. Although there's no reason to think they would be the same! Can you tell I'm a bit anxious...

Ah fair enough! It’s just there’s been a debate on the local WA about the 11th today! It’s really rotten just being given a 3 week window!

@RandomUsernameHere for us is not 13 days since the exam and DD took it on 14th Sept. I wish that logic would apply, i would of had the results already 😁. Honestly, i am actually losing sleep over this. I would agree 11th being mid October not taking in consideration weekends, so 🤞. I even contacted the school and was told they don't know as are having to wait for GL to send the results, i doubt they don't know, suppose the school doesn't want to commit to a date and GL doesn't send it on time.

Hi @Magamu , last year the results were emailed directly on 16th October (a Monday), so I'm guessing it'll be the equivalent Monday this year (14th?).

@Moglet4 im Trafford too. St Ambrose are saying before the 21st. I've never known Alti boys to be after Ambrose. I believe it was the same day last year.

I didn’t know Ambrose had said that. Guess the 17th then as it’s usually a Thursday. I had thought 24th cos they usually do it in half term or just before, presumably to avoid being inundated with calls

@Moglet4 I found this on their website. As you say it's usually just before half term but I wonder if it's because half term is later this year?
It would only give a few days to get your Trafford application in I suppose if they did it on the usual few days before half term.
Sorry got muddled with dates! So hopefully the Thursday then fingers crossed.

@Moglet4 absolutely!!!!! Don't have a first choice for a school? Or just seeing what happens with results?
