Trinity & Whitgift 10+/11+ exams 2024 entry

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a new thread for those with children who are sitting for the 10+ Trinity and Whitgift exams this year.

I've been lurking for years reading through the 10+ and 11+ past threads, silently sharing in the anxiety, pain and joy of those parents that have come before me 😅.

I can't believe that the time is now here for my DS to sit the 10+ exams.

Are there any other parents that would like to jump on board this thread so we can support each other through the next few months?

Hi, wonder if there are more then 60 accept the offer, say give 120 but finally 90 will accept the offer, then school will open one more class? Or enlarge the size of class? Thanks

In the unlikely chance that more than 60 accept the offer, they will have no option but to accept all those children and put on another class which will mean they will have less spaces to offer at 11+

flashinhk · 11/02/2024 21:10

Thanks @Tennis689 and @HenriB , happy to know more about their procedures.

CoraT · 12/02/2024 02:53

if we give up the 10+ place, will the school record it and will not give us a place for 11+ or 13+?

Trickleg · 12/02/2024 08:23

I think you can reapply, but there is no guarantee that you will get an 11 plus place so it’s a bit of a gamble.

Balhamdad11 · 12/02/2024 10:44

@CoraT I don't know about Whitgift/Trinity, but I do know that if you turn down a 10+ place at Emanuel they won't offer you one at 11+. They are quite open about that fact.

I agree with Trickleg that it's a gamble. Another (very significant) reason to take an offer at 10+ is not having to go through the stress of the 11+ process. It is gruelling.

Hedgehog27 · 12/02/2024 13:25

I imagine the school are more than aware of impending political/financial headwinds that may change things dramatically for many families over the next few months and for the schools themselves. They obviously value your DS to offer him a place. I'm sure they wouldn't want is to loose your DS at the end of Year 6 if you opted for a state school place as they could have offered the place to another boy at this point. If you do decline I would think about how you could maintain a positive relationship with the school(s) where you have the offer if you would like to reapply.

Hello everyone

Joining very late to the party - firstly very well done to all the DCs on their hard work, this 11+ lark is a brutal process. Massive congratulations to all who received offers, fingers crossed for all on WLs, and sincere commiserations and hugs to all those who haven’t had the offers they were hoping for.

DS tried for an 11+ sport scholarship at T and W. We ended up with a flat no from T (after 2 rounds of sport scholarship tests and what seemed to DS like an ok interview), but are delighted to have been offered a sports scholarship from W. We applied for it more in hope than expectation given the calibre of the applicants that W attracts, so are really chuffed for him.

DS is a thoughtful, caring and gentle boy and in is some ways quite geeky and a bit of an old soul. He is very amiable, loves his team sports and has a small group of good friends but can also be perfectly happy with his own company and playing individual sports.

We think Whitgift is very impressive, especially the sports opportunities, and DS is keen to go. I am just concerned about whether he will fit in at W as it is a big school with what seems like quite a few ‘alpha’ personalities. That said, the boys we met on interview day were very friendly and DS happily chatted to them.

I believe that there are particular commitments that the school requires from sports scholars eg prioritising school matches over home club etc. In terms of extra support, I gather they may get strength and conditioning sessions and mentoring. We haven’t received any details about these, just confirmation of the scholarship award.

just wondering if there is anyone with a gentle/slightly geeky boy at W who can give me their experience of whether this type of boy would fit in and be happy there?

Also if there are any parents of sports scholars or anyone who is familiar with how the system works, who could tell me a bit about it?

Much appreciate any help or advice anyone can offer. Likewise if I can provide anyone with information at any stage which would help them, then I will be more than happy to do that xx

Congrats on the offer! That's amazing. There are alphas wherever you go. But it has a big year 7 intake and your son will find he people. What sports is he into? Is it a specific scholarship for one sport?

I can't say about the future but my friends son turned down 10+ offers and got great offers with scholarships at 11+.

Thank you so much for your kind words. He plays a few sports and will have a go at pretty much any sport if he gets a chance, but his main sport is cricket. We are not sure if it is a one sport scholarship, the offer letter didn’t specify. Perhaps admissions could tell us?

Balhamdad11 · 14/02/2024 09:21

Does anyone know whether Whitgift are doing an “offer holders” day, or whether it’s possible to go and take another look around before decision deadline? Nothing in the emails about this, but I know other schools do it

Littleduckses · 14/02/2024 09:29

I don’t believe they are-they seem unusual in that regard, most schools seem to do them. Having looked at threads from previous years it does seem as if it’s not something they have offered in the past.

Moresleepandwine · 14/02/2024 12:52

Whitgift will offer you slots for an offer holders tour but you have to email them to ask. We received a link to a calendar with several slots spread across a few days and were able to choose the most convenient one.
