Trinity & Whitgift 10+/11+ exams 2024 entry

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a new thread for those with children who are sitting for the 10+ Trinity and Whitgift exams this year.

I've been lurking for years reading through the 10+ and 11+ past threads, silently sharing in the anxiety, pain and joy of those parents that have come before me 😅.

I can't believe that the time is now here for my DS to sit the 10+ exams.

Are there any other parents that would like to jump on board this thread so we can support each other through the next few months?

None of the 11+ ones are out yet. I think T are getting ahead of the curve with 10+ as 80 offers were sent out of which there are only 40 places so they are probably keen to know who will and won't accept. They have probably worked out from previous years offer/acceptance ratio to fill the allocated spaces.

LesMis2020 · 02/02/2024 13:51

Hi HenriB,

Big congratulations to you ☺

How do you know these numbers you post? Really hoping to hear back on 11+, it's been a long wait already.

bigschoolsdilemma · 02/02/2024 14:03

Just got a 10+ offer and scholarship too. I believe there are 48 places, not 40 (this is what we were told by the admissions team). How do you know there were 80 offers sent?

HenriB · 02/02/2024 14:07

Apologies guys it is 48 places. I was told 80 offers by someone who teaches at the school.

tennissquare · 02/02/2024 14:11

@HenriB , offer ratios are closely guarded secrets held by schools as they don't want parents to know how many people reject their places. It shouldn't be repeated on a public forum.

They really arn't that closely guarded as most of the parents I know who took 10+ also have the same info.

LesMis2020 · 02/02/2024 14:26

You don't happen to know if 11+ will be coming out today?

From the parents I know whose children sat the 11+ nothing came out today. Emails and Letters were received for the 10+

Do you mean 80 offers sent this year? Because they had 3 classes for 10+ before but reduce to 2 classes this year, so still sent out 80 offers at the beginning? Or sent 5x offers for 48 places this year? Even though some will reject but I don’t think it makes sense if only have 48 places.

Oceanictides123 · 02/02/2024 18:16

We heard from T for 10+ this morning that DS is on the waitlist. Unsure how likely are we to get an offer given that they’ve reached out to a longer list already.

Does anyone have experience with T waitlist?

Smorgas · 02/02/2024 18:17

It looks like you are required to make a donation of £1,000 to the Trinity Bursary fund in addition to prepaying fees, in order to accept the offer. That seems unusual. Do others with offers have the same request?

F1okoboji · 02/02/2024 18:45

As 10+ have come out early do you think we will get the 11+ earlier than 9th. So good to get waiting over. Crossed fingers

FreeButtonBee · 02/02/2024 21:18

Current T parent here (10+ last year)

yes the bursary contribution is standard for all parents. They are trying to significantly increase their current/alumni bursaries and not just rely on historic whitgift cash

we were told by mr k 80 offers for 48/50 places last year. Two classes of 24/25ish (not sure of exact numbers) - I imagine it’s similar this year unless they have massively changed their approach.

GiveMeFive · 02/02/2024 21:30

The wait list is an anxious place to be and I know it's a terrible drawn out process.
Each year is naturally different as no one can second case the number of offers sent out, the number that will take the place and the number that refuse the place. There are many factors; other places offered being first choice ( please give up any unwanted places as soon as possible to be kind to other families on the waiting list), scholarships and bursaries. Families that get offered a place but with no financial support in the way of scholarships and bursaries will not always be able to accept a place.
We found out DS2 was no 1 on the waiting list and assured a place would come up but sadly it did not. I was told this was unprecedented.
You can ask where your DS is on the waiting list to get an idea of whether it could convert into a place.
If you are on a waiting list it will most definitely be without a scholarship.or bursary.
Hope this helps

bigschoolsdilemma · 02/02/2024 22:09

Also an existing Trinity parent here and I can testify that the contribution to the bursary fund is something completely new. It was certainly not standard a few years ago and just sounds like a way to increase fees without saying they are increasing fees. I think the school needs to appreciate that, apart from parents who qualify for bursaries, there are a lot of parents who struggle and work incredibly hard to pay the fees. There should be total transparency and no hidden costs to what is advertised. Charitable contributions should always be optional. This is what "donation" is. It's never ever been obligatory before

Smorgas · 02/02/2024 22:18

Standard as in everyone is asked to donate or everyone is made to donate? Having worked hard to budget, an extra grand being added in a slightly sneaky last minute way is quite a joy stealer and feels at odds with everything we felt about the school that led us to this point. Maybe I am the only one put out by this?

RockaLock · 03/02/2024 07:43

What does the letter actually say about the donation? I'm

Like a PP said, we were definitely not asked when my DS started, and we have not been asked since. Well, there is an annual bursary fund appeal, but certainly no compulsion to donate.

Suzukichippy · 03/02/2024 10:35

@bigschoolsdilemma can't agree with you more on this!

We have also received the letter about £2K prepayment, with £1K to Bursary Fund and £1K refundable at the end of the schooling. I was also a bit taken back by it as I have an existing DS at Trinity and have already been asked to donate by direct debit to Bursary Fund, which I agreed to make a very small contribution. I guess by the sound of it, it was introduced last year and they needed more fund to support families that applied for bursaries.

JustAmum1986 · 03/02/2024 13:29

Congratulations to all the boys who got an offer yesterday. We did too but are holding out for the Whitgift result before we decide so we can compare scholarship discounts. Is anybody else waiting until Friday before accepting, I ask as want to be transparent for the boys on waiting lists as may give them some hope for movement.

Moresleepandwine · 03/02/2024 19:40

We have also received an offer for Trinity but will be waiting until the decider tour before we make a final decision. The tour is on the 21st and the deadline to accept places is the 26th of Feb. I would expect the waitlist to move at that time as we know other offer holders planning to make their decision then.

Badhippo · 03/02/2024 22:47

Congratulations on your offer! Do we need to book the decider tour with Admissions? Our offer letters didn’t mention the decider tour at all.

adnatiktok · 08/02/2024 09:09

hi everyone, did anyone get there offers for trinity for 11plus. Because two of my friends have received it?

Mincepies16 · 08/02/2024 09:21

Please do share if anyone else received Trinity or Whitgift 11+ offers, a day early! Wishing everyone good luck 🤞🏻

LesMis2020 · 08/02/2024 09:56

Any idea how they received their offers? Post or via email?

NKM7 · 08/02/2024 12:52

oh gosh I didn't realise they had already gone out for 11+. I thought they were going out tomorrow (9th). We have not heard so perhaps those are the unwanted / not accepted emails on the 9th.
