Hi, just dropping in a thread for those of us who have kids starting secondary this coming September. There was a lovely thread going last year and they are carrying it on into Year 8, so here is a place for us the year behind.

How is everyone feeling as they finish Primary and prepare for Secondary?

Dd is moving from a single form entry "family feel" type cosy Primary into a large 8 form entry, multiple building secondary. She's going alone, her primary class are really split up across multiple secondaries.

The transition days helped, and she is excited, but has been really sad this weke saying her goodbyes

Is everyone prepped for uniform etc?

@BirthdayFlake I really hope tomorrow goes well for you all. Nerves have hit here too your not on your own. I'm sure there will be so many names of new friends that you won't be able to keep up. I keep going through everything in my head too. Roll on day 2

Thank you.

You would have thought it was Christmas Eve yesterday as my dd was so excited.

Good luck to all the new year 7s starting this week and for those already back, I hope it's all going well.

Good luck to those starting today! ❤️

Hi sorry late to join. My son starts tomorrow. I have a daughter already in secondary. I have taken today off work to make sure everything is in place and I am more nervous about my son than I was my daughter ( different schools). He will be getting a school bus and has to find the bus stop ( and the right bus) at the end of the day.

twistyizzy · 05/09/2023 09:38

Me!

ElvenDreamer · 05/09/2023 09:52

@Gizlotsmum that's my situation too!

MumSi87 · 05/09/2023 09:53

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz I was just jumping on to ask the same! Dropped my son off this morning, lots of nerves and a few tears but he went in ok in the end. I'm now working from home trying to find motivation in a very quiet house :(

Gizlotsmum · 05/09/2023 10:07

@ElvenDreamer glad I am not the only one. Have told work I may need to leave early if he misses the bus! We have walked the route but that is very different to doing it on his own with a large number of other boys.

EweCee · 05/09/2023 12:31

My DD was literally bouncing around the house this morning with excitement - I got back from my gym class and she was already dressed and raring to go (way too early as they started late today). Such a relief and so pleased that she was so excited (particularly as the only person she knows going to the same school has been a bit mean over the summer hols 🤨)! Can’t wait to pick her up and hear how her first day has gone.

CoffeeWithCheese · 05/09/2023 12:37

DD1 went in this morning (only Y7 and Year 12 in today) and she was really anxious. I'm trying not to think about it till nearer picking up time. School SENCO knows she's waiting for an ASD assessment, has been forewarned that her anxiety tends to make her over the top and very Vicky Pollard mode and hopefully they're at least acting on that knowledge.

CoffeeWithCheese · 05/09/2023 16:12

Well she’s happy enough apart from not being impressed by having to go up and down all the stairs!

Aigh · 05/09/2023 16:37

That's great news, @CoffeeWithCheese ! Hope everyone else has a great first week. DS starts tomorrow and the school have sent more information so I am feeling a little bit better now. Not looking forward to 6:30 start though!

gingeristhenewblack43 · 05/09/2023 16:45

Any feedback from today's new starters?

ElvenDreamer · 05/09/2023 17:04

Oh that's good news @CoffeeWithCheese , must be a relief!

How did anyone else get on? Nerves kicking in here now...

MumSi87 · 05/09/2023 17:14

I can breath easy after the first day report! All went well, a few technical issues but the school are sorting, didn't get enough time to eat after getting school dinner but that's easily resolved by packed lunches! Left home in tears arrived home with smiles. Happy with time table and LOVES his form teacher

StressedMumOf2Girls · 05/09/2023 18:05

Good day today. Only had 2 out of the 5 timetabled lessons because the first half of the day was full of form time activities and a whole school assembly. But she's happy, she likes her teachers so far and is excited for the rest of the year.

Will have to see how she gets on tomorrow as that will be her first full day following her timetable and her first time on public transport alone.

twistyizzy · 05/09/2023 18:59

Success thank god! Although to be fair she was judging that mainly by the fact that lunch was a BBQ!!
New friends made and identified the popular girls to possibly stay away from.

Walkingbkwrm · 05/09/2023 19:14

Sounds like today went well for the people starting today. Fingers crossed that tomorrow goes just as well for those starting tomorrow (including mine).

twistyizzy · 05/09/2023 19:22

Good luck for all those starting tomorrow

MumSi87 · 05/09/2023 20:20

I just want to thank you all, I'm not sure if of kept it all together without this group

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/09/2023 20:43

Good day here too.

Good luck for those going in tomorrow. Let's keep the thread going, however infrequent you want to post, as I'm sure there'll he various things popping up throughout the year.

I thought dds school played a blinder today as they did individual and class school photos today for year seven - smartest any of them will ever look.

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz yes I'm sure I can forsee more hand holding needed once the friendships start to bed in/go awry and just general adolescent angst.
What a great idea to get the photos done today!

TeaandHobnobs · 05/09/2023 21:23

Good start here! DS really enjoyed it.
We had a little parents coffee morning, and a short talk from the HM and Head of Y7. Everyone was really lovely.
DS is excited for his first Physics lesson on Thursday!

BirthdayFlake · 06/09/2023 06:21

Dd came home happy yesterday. Mostly all good except one teacher who was very keen to give out warnings for anything minor. Not sure the children got a good first impression of them.
