Y7- 2023/24 support thread

Hi, just dropping in a thread for those of us who have kids starting secondary this coming September. There was a lovely thread going last year and they are carrying it on into Year 8, so here is a place for us the year behind.

How is everyone feeling as they finish Primary and prepare for Secondary?

Dd is moving from a single form entry "family feel" type cosy Primary into a large 8 form entry, multiple building secondary. She's going alone, her primary class are really split up across multiple secondaries.

The transition days helped, and she is excited,but has been really sad this weke saying her goodbyes

Is everyone prepped for uniform etc?

Is there a new thread yet?

DD has had a mixed bag of a first half term. Obvs there was the bullying thing early on but DD has totally removed herself from that group.

She has made some new friends who came from other primaries. I'm really proud of her for that because it was easier to stick with her primary 'friends' in yr7 than branch out.

A fair few of her teachers from last year have left, which is apparently common when schools become academies. It's a shame because it was a lot of the ones she liked.

There has also been a shake up in terms of discipline too. It's much stricter, which is no bad thing. Apparently in the first week back 25 pupils were suspended and 7 expelled. My DD was told this in assembly. Some parents have removed their kids as they are not happy with the discipline.

Homework is coming thick and fast but hard to keep track of as school are moving from their old online system to the one the academy uses. We've all been logged out of the old system but not got log ins for the new system.

So some transition to academy teething problems which will hopefully be resolved soon.

Looking forward to breaking up on the 25th. I have the week booked off 🙌🏻
