Hopefully everyone from GCSE Support The Final Frontier can find this new thread!

Yes, school allow other's to collect with a letter giving permission as standard, no special arrangements. They don't put online/email/send by post.

HippyChickMama · 21/08/2023 11:08

I've been looking for a results thread having been on the previous support threads and I've found you all! Hope everyone is okay and that your dc are holding up. Nervously awaiting Thursday here, ds is much more anxious since the A level results came out, I think it made him realise how close GCSE results day is. He's refusing to discuss buying any stationery supplies for 6th form until after he's had his place confirmed

DS and I were discussing clothes for 6th form, and he told me not to order anything until Thursday 'just in case'

All getting a bit real now I think

Letskeepgoing · 21/08/2023 11:29

We don't have a time yet but we did have an email a few weeks ago to say parents aren't allowed into the school but we are allowed to stand outside and wait...
I guess it could be to do with a Safeguarding issue I don't know.

Sausagesandpeas · 21/08/2023 11:42

It’s the norm at my DDs school for parents to go in with them to get results. Not sure if I’m glad about that or not!

HippyChickMama · 21/08/2023 11:54

@poorbutgood oh dear, hope the requirements aren't too specific clothing wise! Ds will be going to a sixth form college where they can wear whatever they want so no special requirements thankfully. We have got to fit in the bus journey though, he will be going on the bus and has some additional needs so needs to be shown where to get on and off before he does it alone. We're going to combine the bus journey with a visit to the shops in the college town to get his bag and stationery

Smart casual, which is a shock for a kid who lives in trackers and hoodies!

Good luck with the bus trip!

reluctantbrit · 21/08/2023 17:28

We are having business smart, so full suit for boys and office style wear for girls, fitted trousers/skirt, smart top. At least they took away the mandatory blazer last year for girls.
DD loves clothes but the idea of no jeans or jeggings is not going down too well.

She is struggling with her transition work as well. Also, she has anxiety/ASD, we are all jet-lagged from holiday and she has her period. Life is great in our house at the moment.

Letskeepgoing · 21/08/2023 17:45

What are peoples plans for Thursday? Has anyone planning anything special? I've got the day off work so I was thinking of doing a nice breakfast with pancakes etc for when he comes back home. Hopefully it will be good news. Part of me is wondering whether I should book a meal out in the evening or not....

Hellocatshome · 21/08/2023 17:59

I'm going into work late, I have warned them though if it doesn't go well I may need the day off. My work is very flexible so that won't ve a problem but hopefully not needed. No plans other than that, he had enough money spent on him at end of exams and prom and we have just come back from holiday so no money spare for any more celebrations/commiserations.

I booked a meal @Letskeepgoing and I’ve got a card saying how proud we are. But he’s not coming to the meal now because he decided to go to Reading at the last minute. Not sure whether to cancel the table or go without him 😂. I’ve booked the day off.

DaisyWaldron · 21/08/2023 18:20

I had booked the day off, but started a new job last week, so no leave for me. DD doesn't want a special meal, but I'll make her some fifteens and pick up some pink lemonade so she can have a celebration/commiseration sugarfest in the evening.

megletthesecond · 21/08/2023 18:22

I cancelled my day off. If DS has awful results I'd decided I'd rather find out at work and can digest it with colleagues before I meet him.

HippyChickMama · 21/08/2023 18:42

Dh and I have booked the day off, after ds has picked up his results we will (hopefully) be taking him to the college to enrol and we have a table booked at a nice pub nearby for lunch

FourTeaFallOut · 21/08/2023 18:46

I've booked a table at a local restaurant. I haven't told ds in case it all goes tits up and a planned 'celebratory dinner' compounds the misery. I can frame it as an pick me up if that the way things go.

Rowgtfc72 · 21/08/2023 19:01

I've taken Thursday off work and dd will go in at 9 for her results.
She'll be on a train to London at half one to spend a few days with my brother in London. He bought her reading festival tickets for her 16th and he's booked a meal in the Sky Garden. She's most excited that he's booked the f1 sim for the Dutch grand prix on the Sunday!
If everything hasn't gone to plan hopefully this will take her mind off it.

NashvilleQueen · 21/08/2023 19:09

I've booked the day off but am going to cancel so DD can go out with her friends. I've booked a really nice restaurant for Friday evening instead. And I'll save a day's leave.

PhotoDad · 21/08/2023 19:12

DS will be prepping for a day on a training course for his sport... we'll have to discuss how to deal with the logistics! (I'll be away with him...)

spiderlight · 21/08/2023 19:13

DS has to go straight to college to enrol, and then hang around for an hour for his friend who's got a later enrollment slot, as DH is driving them both there and back. They'll probably go out for a bit after that, hopefully in a celebratory mood. DH and I are both off work and I'd love to go for a nice meal, but our dog is seriously ill and can't be left at home alone so it'll probably just be pizza.

MargaretThursday · 21/08/2023 19:20

When dd1 got her results she told me she was just going to run in, grab them, jump back in the car and then I was to drive to a distance away for her to open them.
After 20 minutes I texted her and asked where she was. She'd decided to stay in and open them there. The results were on the good side of what she expected. So do be aware that plans on the day can change when they meet their friends.

Ds is very happy to say that for the 6th form he will be wearing t-shirt and shorts. This is no different to the last 11 years, except they will be his own choice of shorts and t-shirt rather than uniform ones.

Frenchyq25 · 21/08/2023 19:20

I've swapped my shift start time on Thursday so I can be there when he gets his results, we'll go for a McDonald's breakfast either way.
It's my birthday on Friday, so we're doing a birthday/exam dinner.

AnxiousElephant77 · 21/08/2023 19:52

I've not planned anything. I'm sure either way she'll want to spend time with her friends and her boyfriend so I'll keep it low key and probably take her for a celebratory or consolation brunch.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 21/08/2023 19:56

I am working at home and results are by email. Hoping all will be well but worst case scenario I can take the day off as cannot deal with work stress plus results stress. DD has plans with friends in the afternoon.

Middersweekly · 21/08/2023 20:26

Just came across this thread. Hope it’s ok to join. We also have a very nervous DD3 awaiting iGCSE result’s Thursday. She’s even more nervous since reading about the A-level results and the higher grade boundaries.
We’ve booked a nice meal out for Saturday night so I hope she’s in the mood to go.
Me and DH WFH so we will be around on Thursday awaiting what I presume is an email from her school with her results. I’m not sure if they will embargo the results until 9am UK time (we are an hour ahead where we are).
As for uniform for sixth form, they have said smart casual so DD wants to find some appropriate trousers and tops at the weekend.
We don’t have to formally enroll until 1st September which seems quite late compared to other DC.
Wishing all the DC the best for Thursday.

beansoup · 21/08/2023 20:30

I have the day off and am taking DD in to pick her envelope up - she thinks she wants to run out with the envelope and open it at home. The initial reality will be she won't go through the school gate without me (anxiety issues ) - I hope she chooses to open it up there and that friends are also there when we arrive!

I had hoped we might do something in the afternoon - more of an end of holiday activity than anything - and thought we'd head into London but she wants to return home. I may stop off for ice cream on the seafront though!
