These are the voyages of the GCSE Enterprise. To support our DCs, bemoan exam boards and to boldly go through the last fortnight like no one has gone before!

5 this week, with final one on 21st Further Maths. Currently in the shower and I'm not sure how much has been done today. She's Flagging. Just washed her uniform for the final time , after 16 years no more uniform! It's leavers assembly and prom on the 28th ,2 6th form open events on 5 & 6th, her birthday on the 7th and we go on holiday the 14th. Its now happening so fast...

Sitting here with the dog while everyone else is still in bed and it just occurred to me 6 months ago DS was on the verge of being suspended from school.

He was being accused by teachers on a daily basis of being under the influence of drugs which led to him becoming a very angry young man, they refused to accept the results of a private drugs test we paid for as proof he wasn't as it wasn't accurate. So he had no way of defending himself against the allegations.

His ex girlfriend was telling him she was pregnant with his baby which turned out to be a pack of lies designed to get him back but caused several of his friends to fall out with him for not being supportive even though he said if she was pregnant he would be there for the baby physically and financially.

6 months later he has completely turned himself around. He is actually revising and has been at school all day everyday throughout the exams including before and after school boosters even though most of his friends have given up going in. He went into the half term holiday sessions even though he was apparently the only boy there.

He is on track to get 4s or 5s in most things although a 4 in English Language is a lot less certain and the less said about Spanish the better.

I dont know really why I've written this post but I am just so incredibly proud of him and any attempt to tell him so are apparently incredibly embarrassing.

You should be absolutely be proud . Hopefully he will get the grades he needs

I am waiting for my Ds to turn himself around 😩.

grass321 · 11/06/2023 14:38

I escaped to Costa for a couple of hours and it was filled with students who'd laid their books out but no revision was going on at all.

I suspect not entirely what the parents thought they were funding an afternoon's worth of Costa treats in aid of.

Letskeepgoing · 11/06/2023 14:51

Oh no...my ds gone to bed saying he has stomach ache and feels sick. Please let it not be anything 🙏

Oh no @Starlightstarbright1 hopefully he will get there soon.

Fingers crossed for you @Letskeepgoing

Muchtoomuchtodo · 11/06/2023 15:30

4 more left here, finishing on Monday 19th.

That’s it until November, then January and the rest next May/June. It’s relentless!

DS will reach the dizzy heights of being 15 this week. He’s another one who sets himself very high standards and is hoping for A/A* across the board. How he manages it all amongst his sports and music is quite frankly incredible, I have to say I’m very proud of how he’s taking it all in his stride.

AbbyGal · 11/06/2023 16:03

Desperately crossing fingers for Eng Lang tomorrow, if he does well, hopefully it will make up for the last one when he had his migraine.

He's got 5 next week and then Further Maths the week after - just counting down now.

Today's revision scuppered by the heat and impending thunderstorm but it's not taking much to distract him!

Good luck to all next week.

NCTDN · 11/06/2023 16:07

I wish we had a thunderstorm here. DS can't focus in this heat.

Hersetta427 · 11/06/2023 16:09

DD has been doing CHemistry all weekend. She will spend an hr or two on english tonight and is hoping for a speech or a letter tomorrow. 6 more today - in 5 days time it will be all over and in 6 days time we will be in my Mums pool in spain! can't wait.

Circleoffifths · 11/06/2023 16:20

7 more exams to go here this week plus a music exam next Saturday. Am fretting about the temperatures but it’s not as though anything can be done about that. 🥵

Not much revision happening here today - DD has sorted out her room and has done one past paper. Music instruments suffering from wood expansion in the heat 😣.

PicnicBunny · 11/06/2023 17:24

Revision all day here. He has barely stopped.

Maths in the morning. English since before lunch.

Oooh lovely! Pool in Spain sounds brilliant right now. We still have school because younger DS7 doesn’t finish until end of July

spiderlight · 11/06/2023 17:46

Lots of flopping around today and he only really knuckled down to do some proper English at about 4.30 😩

NCTDN · 11/06/2023 18:04

Ds also hoping for a speech.

Honeylemonandginger · 11/06/2023 18:28

DD has 6 exams this week and the last one DT next Monday.
Not a great deal of revision done this weekend. Has gone off to wash her now because as always, hair takes priority over everything!

Soundofshuna · 11/06/2023 18:31

Our printer has broken today so can’t print anything else off( & wasted an hour cleaning up the printer ink I had spilled trying to fix it!)
Year 9 has school exams this week so exam stress levels high in our house!

MerylSqueak · 11/06/2023 19:11

WJEC have said tomorrow's paper will have a speech and an article.

Letskeepgoing · 11/06/2023 19:20

Does anyone think there's any chance the AQA Question 5 could be a blog? Apparently its never come up before. Ds isn't prepared for one and is having a last min panic.

Good grief, good point. That would be a curveball.

MrsHamlet · 11/06/2023 19:26

It doesn't matter whether it's a speech, a letter, a blog... the mark scheme is the same.

grass321 · 11/06/2023 19:29

Having checked back to the syllabus, a blog isn't listed as one of the forms. Unless it falls broadly under an article?

Yes but there's a different writing style which he isn't sure about.

We were watching Mr Everything English live blog and he listed it as an option.

Nowfeeltheneedtopost · 11/06/2023 20:02

7 left for my DD. 6 this week and then paper 2 of further maths next week. But definitely feels on home straight now since every paper is the last one for each subject so she can finally feel subjects are done. She’s done well this weekend, mixing decent amount of revision with a Friday night out with friends, trips to the gym and practices for her main sport. Her attitude is much healthier than mine at the time I did exams (I was a real “must get all As otherwise I’m a failure”) whereas she is far more balanced.
