These are the voyages of the GCSE Enterprise. To support our DCs, bemoan exam boards and to boldly go through the last fortnight like no one has gone before!

Well we are done! Thanks for all the support it's been great to have a place to vent.

Apparently Geog was boiling hot, annoying and there wasn't enough time. But she thinks she's done well enough for a 6/7

Have an amazing Summer and will look forward to hearing how they all got on in August!

PicnicBunny · 16/06/2023 14:44

Good luck and good bye to those checking out of this thread ! We’ll meet again don’t know where don’t know when… but
I know we’ll meet again

some
sunny day
(probably August!)

Changes17 · 16/06/2023 14:44

Physics and geography down - one to go!

Changes17 · 16/06/2023 14:45

Is FM the very last one? Or are there others after Wednesday pm?

Neversaygoodbye · 16/06/2023 15:05

DS home & thinks both physics & Geography went well. He's just so happy to be finished. All the best to those with more next week.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 16/06/2023 13:25

DD said Physics AQA triple was ok, not as good as paper 1 but not bad.

Anyway, we are done! DD is going to spend the afternoon watching films and wallowing in the sadness of leaving school. Good luck to those doing Geography and tech subjects next week.

DS said the some. His second favourite paper so far - physics 1 was the best one apparently.

Letskeepgoing · 16/06/2023 15:19

My son had 2 really good Geography papers and the one today he said his hand felt all floppy and wouldn't work properly...Heat and tiredness I guess? Hopefully he's done well enough with the other two.

spiderlight · 16/06/2023 15:40

DS's friend has just turned up complaining about WJEC history - apparently he thought it was an open-book exam but it wasn't, so he wasn't best pleased!

CCL333 · 16/06/2023 15:40

My DS has stats on Monday then further maths next Friday afternoon. So still another week to go here.

TripleDaisySummer · 16/06/2023 15:43

BBC Bite sized says that's the last day of GCSE that Wednesday - but doesn't say if it was morning or afternoon.

Though we had to search for date for WJEC as additional maths wasn't on the GCSE timetable but an additional timetable as it's Level 2 Certificate exam apparently - and there was a few of those going up to that last Friday afternoon.

It's one of the last exams at DC school and they are doing leaving assembly that Friday afternoon.

LighthouseCat · 16/06/2023 15:50

DD home. Physics and geography both ok but I had visions of her being ecstatic to be finished and instead we've had tears and grumpiness, no doubt due to heat and tiredness. Hopefully a quiet evening with a takeaway and a lovely long sleep will make all the difference. She's been so calm and unflustered throughout. I guess now she can finally relax, her emotions have bubbled over

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 16/06/2023 15:53

I remember being quite down and depressed after my A levels (can't remember about my O levels). Probably something to do with adrenaline and cortisol levels or something.

DD has Additional Maths on Friday next week but that's not strictly speaking a GCSE.

DownTheRabbitHoIe · 16/06/2023 16:03

Oh my goodness @naughty40me 😢

Still one to go on Monday here but DS is out to a party tonight and I'm encouraging him to sort out a pizza night or something similar for once they are all completely done.

julesover40 · 16/06/2023 16:06

Dd thinks both exams today went well. She also says after all the pressure/stress waiting to be finished she feels a bit down now instead od relieved. She's out celebrating with some friends tonight so I'm sure that will help.
Good luck to all that have next week left x

DarkChocHolic · 16/06/2023 16:07

We are done here...DD flopped on sofa watching TV.
She asked if I had confetti ready when she came in after geography. Lol!

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 16/06/2023 16:07

Soooo we are OUTTA HERE!! Woooo hooo he is alive he is happy he is FREE.

PennywisePoundFoolish · 16/06/2023 16:08

DS2 said physics ans geography went OK. He'd asked to go tobthr library in between but told to ask another staff member and didn't. An announcement made only allowed in thr canteen as they were no longer part of the school and considered guests. So he wondered outside alone for 30 minutes, he'd not taken a drink.

He was hungry and thirsty when I collected him, so went and got snacks. I'm on nights so he hadn't messages me to say what happened.

I'm irritated but no point dwelling on it. We're away for the 6th form induction but I'll sort that out another day.

mumonthehill · 16/06/2023 16:08

Ds said history ok. Walked in with a 4 pack of cider his dad got him and has just come down with a bin bag full of papers!!! He is also a bit deflated, tired I think. See you all on results day and a happy summer to all. Oh and thanks for all the support.

Jowak1 · 16/06/2023 16:14

Thanks for all the support everyone! Have a good summer 🌞

MargaretThursday · 16/06/2023 16:30

Picked ds up after an afternoon with friends.

He says Physics was "good" which has been his fairly standard response to most of the exams.
I said all over then... he said "until November". I asked why November and he said the resits are then... so maybe they've not been as good as he said....

He's flopped happily in his room playing chess online against his friends, so not much different from when he was meant to be revising.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 16/06/2023 16:44

WJEC chemistry was ‘good, pretty easy really!’ so we just have physics on Monday afternoon then that’s it for year 10!

I’m thinking it’s been useful to do a few (7) this summer to give a taste of what’s ahead next year. DS has also learned that just popping down the beach with his mates usually lasts much longer than first thought so not good to do when he actually wanted to revise! Still at literally just turned 15 I think he’s done brilliantly!

AbbyGal · 16/06/2023 16:47

Physics and Geog were "decent" what ever that means!!

Still have FM on Wed but hall his close mates are finished so he's out with them tonight.

well done to everyone who's done and see you just before 24th August 😁

@Rowgtfc72 Also crossing fingers for 4s and 5s and perhaps a bit better in A level subjects. But isn’t it amazing she’s arranged her own apprenticeship! We are not in a dissimilar position in that predicted grades and where my son was performing pre covid is v significantly different to now. I can pinpoint when he started to struggle and that was end of year 8/ start of year 9 and covid - some unexplained learning needs, a lack of teaching and being shut away really impacted him, plus the massive step up in curriculum and the impact on his SEN. As we read through a summary sheet last night on his physics and I asked him if he knew Boyle’s Law (purely because the teacher had told the kids to learn it), he laughed and said “Why would I know that?” And I honestly laughed back as I felt “Fair enough”! These kids will all find their way and will excel. I can’t describe the last 4 weeks as anything but pointless torture for too many children (in their own different ways) and I am convinced the educational system needs a massive overhaul, however it feels like some rather strange rite of passage and hopefully they’ll all come out having learnt something….. the fact your DS has even arranged her own apprenticeship I think is brilliant as many kids wouldn’t be able to…….. look back at my previous posts - the Ben Fogle quote will resonate with you!

DS’s headmaster, who is fairly prominent in the world of education, is publicly of the view that GCSEs should be got rid of. Now children do not leave full time education at 16 they serve little purpose. I was sceptical but after this experience I do think the whole path to 16 needs rethinking. What purpose are these insanely forced and rigid English language exams serving for example? Other than turning a generation of kids off reading altogether …

BobBobBobbing · 16/06/2023 17:26

All done here- been out for a meal and now he's heading off to the traditional y11 gathering which is on top of the hills overlooking the school. God knows what time he'll be back.

Good luck to those who have exams next week. Fingers crossed for august when we find out the results of all the blood, sweat and tears.
