These are the voyages of the GCSE Enterprise. To support our DCs, bemoan exam boards and to boldly go through the last fortnight like no one has gone before!

OCR maths anyone?

DS was happy with OCR maths. It is his favourite subject though.

DorotheaDiamond · 14/06/2023 18:43

Dd thought edexcel music was brilliant - Harry Potter as unknown piece!! It is one of her a level choices tho and the teaching at her school is outstanding!

3 more to go…

AgathaSpencerGregson · 14/06/2023 17:12

DS is AQA for music. He said it was fine, but it’s his best subject by a loooooong way ….
any of the musicians doing it for A level?

DD is hoping to take music A-level and beyond. She is sitting Grade 7 theory on Saturday - glutton for punishment 😬.

She has just told me the fire alarm went off in the Maths exam this morning just as she was working her way through the last question.

DS planning to take Music A Level.

Complaining about Edexcel Music exam this afternoon though and hasn’t complained about any of the nine other subjects he’s taken exams in so far.

DS2 also did edxecel music today and said it was difficult and that everyone else said the same. He's predicted a 9 for GCSE and is doing A-level music so if he says it was difficult then it was probably was!

Violasrule · 14/06/2023 19:54

@Loueytb3

Really pleased you said that. DS said that despite Hedwigs Theme being the unseen piece the paper was quite tricky.

DS needs to do A Level Music to enable him to study Music at University. Also attends Junior Conservatoire.

Had a rubbish teacher at school who focused heavily on the coursework and then ran out of time for the exam prep. Same teacher for A Level though 🤦‍♀️.

Anyone dc got wiermar Germany paper tomorrow? Ds hasn't revised apart from going to a couple revision sessions. It's had to take a back seat really. I Said I'd go through it with him later.

Ds has been revising since he got home by mostly using previous flash cards he’s made. Have you got the Edexcel Nazi Weimar workbook?

The History Teacher on YouTube is quite good, annoying voice and a lot of info too fast. But okay. I prefer actual documentaries and understanding is better than just memorising I say, rather than how to just write essays to get a grade. Though that is needed too! Ds thinks they’ve never been asked about Life for Women in Weimar so it might be on that.

This is a good one if you’re having a cup of tea and watching something together - covers a lot of content

In this video, we'll explain the Treaty of Versailles and how World War 1 finally came to an end, and how WW2 would start with the world’s most hated Treaty,...

DS Predicted 8/9 in excel higher maths but just got home and said it was hard and he ran out of time. He is in a foul mood now….Hope it went better for others!

Hopefully he did well in the other maths papers, so it will all even out. Big hugs and holding hands here that all in all, it goes better than they feel. It’s so frustrating when they miss a question because that’s marks but that probably means he was thorough with the rest of the questions.

Yes my DS has. I've left him to it to be honest as he's fairly ok with history. I hope!!

Letskeepgoing · 14/06/2023 20:19

My son has been home since 11 and done no history at all. I've just been to see him to encourage it and he's fallen asleep on his bed. What can I do? Sigh...

lemonyellows · 14/06/2023 20:23

It's a hard slog is it. You can only do so much. He probably knows enough xx

Hmm..I'm not sure 😕 but it is what it is. 🤷

clary · 14/06/2023 21:51

I do hope everyone on this thread will share their dcs' results in August. Would love to know how they all do. And if so, remember, most people don't achieve all 9s.

Been meaning to ask you @SheilaFentiman I presume you are a fan of DLS/LPW? Me too!

NCTDN · 14/06/2023 21:52

I hope we can just keep this thread going?
We have one for DD who has just finished her first year at uni so it's been going for years!

Hellocatshome · 14/06/2023 21:54

I will 100% need someone to hold my hand on the 24th!

Me too! I suspect there will be tears.

Fifiellz · 14/06/2023 22:01

We will be on holiday, hopefully if there is bad news we can forget it for another week and worry about it when we come back.

HappiDaze · 14/06/2023 22:11

DD revised earlier in the garden but has since lost the will and has just sort of flopped on her bed.

I think she's burnt out and ready for it all to be done and dusted for her on Friday

Letskeepgoing · 14/06/2023 22:14

I'm thinking ahead here but if you want your results by email, do you have to request that? Or do they get automatically sent them at a certain time?
I was thinking ds woukd go to school and open them there. His sister is desperate to go with him but he said there's no way he's opening there infront of everyone, says he will bring them home!! X

Changes17 · 14/06/2023 22:22

@Letskeepgoing Will the school let you know? DS’ school sent out a letter this week saying that they would need to collect them on the day or wait for them to come in the post. No emails, no online portal.

Changes17 · 14/06/2023 22:23

There was also the option of the kids nominating someone to collect on their behalf.

Fifiellz · 14/06/2023 22:25

Our school only release results on the child's online portal. No going into school at all.

Hellocatshome · 14/06/2023 22:26

Apparently DSs school will let us know how he gets the results. Probably the same way they told us that today was their last day i.e on the day in question.

CalmConfident · 14/06/2023 22:29

8am email and/or collect from school from 8am.

Apparently the best way is to go to school, read your email in the car park and then decide if you are going in person!

Anyone got any DC on ADHD meds? How are they finding the exams? After a pretty horrendous few years or so My DD got diagnosed yesterday with quite severe ADHD and they have put her on meds to take straight away to see if they help. I'm a bit nervous as wasn't sure if she should take them mid exams but the psychiatrist was positive they would help. She did take some yesterday and they did stop the leg tapping and constant fidgeting for a bit with no horrid side effects. It now makes sense why she's struggled so much with concentration and focus. Just hope they don't have any horrible effects during the exams. I'm so nervous for her.

My Ds has adhd - he has been on medication since the end of year .

it became quite clear in mocks he couldn’t cope with the second smaller room. For children who need extra time or additional needs .

He is in a room with just a few children in.. He manages much better there. I would say the subjects he enjoys most he seems to have done far better than others where he comes out and I wonder from what he says if he has done anything.

I have tried not to put pressure on but remove phone so he can revise for 20 minutes at a time.

he is allowed rest break’s as well as extra time.
