These are the voyages of the GCSE Enterprise. To support our DCs, bemoan exam boards and to boldly go through the last fortnight like no one has gone before!

DS says last year a pass on the higher maths GCSE paper was about 18%

Wow. Dd said 50% gives a 7 I think.

Circleoffifths · 14/06/2023 13:48

I swear my DD is trying to make me even greyer than I currently am. Music exam started at 13.30 - on the phone app, I could see that at 13.20 she was still in the park opposite school. Probably with most of the music class. Their poor teacher - he’s quite highly-strung at the best of times.

tourdefrance · 14/06/2023 13:55

Definitely a case of TMI there @Circleoffifths !

No sign of DS yet. Exam should be long finished and revision session for tomorrow too but he bought some chocolates yesterday (paid for by me) so is probably wandering the school handing them out!

Hellocatshome · 14/06/2023 14:38

DS had his leavers assembly after the maths exam and then they were allowed to leave having been in school all the time all through the exams. School is next to the beach so now im just being inundated with various photos of topless groups of teen boys on the beach and all I can think about is how none of them have probably got suncream on!

Changes17 · 14/06/2023 14:51

DS upbeat about Edexcel higher maths.

spiderlight · 14/06/2023 14:53

Mine is playing basketball in the park, but miraculously he did actually come home first to change and put suncream on (and take his hayfever eye drops and nasal spray and anti-pollen wipe and anti-nausea meds and Gaviscon - his friend went 'Bloody hell, mate - leave some disabilities for the rest of us!'). I have no idea when I'll see him - apparently they were going from the park into town to look at 'basketball clothes' in Primark, so I think this is going to be the new summer obsession!

Jowak1 · 14/06/2023 15:00

My son had maths this morning then has gone back into school for a 2 hour revision session on Nazi Germany for history tomorrow.

Jowak1 · 14/06/2023 15:01

2 exams to go woo hoo !!

Rowgtfc72 · 14/06/2023 15:13

Just waiting for dd to come home after music.
Had an email from the school today to say they no longer need to be in school if all their exams are finished. We don't seem to have had a " last " day!

Fifiellz · 14/06/2023 15:16

DD hated music, said it was the worst exam so far and she just wanted to cry.

A lot of the content was from
earlier on in Y10 when they had an absolutely flakey teacher that barely came to a lesson, teacher now has been incredible but has focused on getting performance and comp marks up.

She said the 10 marker was fine and the second half was fine but she didn't have a clue about a lot in the first half.

I'll be so glad when they are all over.

TripleDaisySummer · 14/06/2023 15:19

I've finally go Ds revising by sitting in the shade in the garden and he's been quiet shocked at amount he's forgotten with this advanced maths - he was completely fine before Easter but not touched it as since as everything else needed attention.

I do feel for the kids in exam rooms in these temperatures - not pleasant at all.

Circleoffifths · 14/06/2023 15:23

Oh God - which board was that @Fifiellz ?

WJEC, it wasn't just her, they are all talking on chat about how bad it was.

Lots of irrelevant stuff about Africa and strangely worded questions which threw them off

Circleoffifths · 14/06/2023 15:36

My cousin’s son was sitting WJEC today.

DD is OCR - she’s not home yet.

DS is OCR music. He said it was fine. That doesn't mean anything 😄

Quinkle · 14/06/2023 15:46

All smiles about wjec music here, but I would say school stronger on this aspect than perf or Comp. Delayed 20 mins by tech not working ......obvs!

Stressful!

lemonyellows · 14/06/2023 15:50

DS maths went well. He is confident that he will never have to do a maths lesson or exam ever again!! He's very happy. I so hope it's true.

Only history and physics to go!

Quinkle · 14/06/2023 15:54

OnTh3Up · 14/06/2023 15:49

Stressful!

Well, I think they just expect anything tech related not to work, so it's sort of built-in and therefore not so worrying for the majority. I'm sure some students wouldn't have liked it though.

Woody1979 · 14/06/2023 16:01

DD said maths was good she thinks, however music was awful, (alot stronger language was used to describe it ) think there was some attempted guesses and she said everyone came out hating it. I don't think they had covered much theory or listening as they were all very focused on the practicals. Hoping that picks her grade up. She's laughing about how bad it was so at least that's something (possibly laugh or she'll cry type thing) Last one to go now. The ADHD meds did seem to help a little and she's in good spirits at the moment so I'll take that. One more left phew!!!!

BaconAndAvocado · 14/06/2023 16:12

DS2 said Maths was good except for the last question.
He said he had no idea how to do it!

Madcats · 14/06/2023 16:13

Fulsome praise from DD regarding the AQA music paper this afternoon. She went in for an instrumental music lesson this morning (so I am wondering whether the teacher was busy giving her some hints and tips).

I wonder what prompts schools to choose one board over another as it sounds as if they all get scheduled for the same day.

I don't envy her grappling with physics for Friday morning; it is probably her weakest subject.

BaconAndAvocado · 14/06/2023 16:14

Tomorrow off, Physics on Friday then Hello Summer Holidays!

He’s just asked if it’s ok for him and a group of friends to go camping this weekend!
In 2 years time it will be Ayia Napa........

This was for Edexcel he says

MargaretThursday · 14/06/2023 16:27

Having spent 12 years battling against attending school, tomorrow ds has his dream day-no exams and no lessons so he isn't meant to be in....

He's just announced they've all decided they're going in tomorrow anyway and he's going too.

I've told him if it's the traditional setting off fire alarms I will be very unimpressed.
