GCSE supporting - to half term, and beyond!

Making a new thread to support half term revision and the set of GCSEs afterwards!

I had a kitchen floor like this when I was a child and it does make you aware of those squares! It is the first thing I thought of when I saw the question!

DS has last Welsh exam -he came to welsh later than many of his peers so anything is good really as he isn't continuing with it.

Now the exam is done can we access the paper they sat? If so, how? Thanks

Not officially. They are embargoed for a year so schools can use them as next years mocks.

@ReformedWaywardTeen - what a horrible experience for your DS. The problem with something like this is that the impact it would have had can’t be fixed afterwards - so frustrating.

DD’s school was very late in sending them home with their individual timetables. So late that I gave up waiting and looked up the board for each subject so that at least we knew which papers were before and after half-term. Then when DD brought home her own timetable I checked it against the one I had already made. Plus am finding this thread a help to double check we haven’t missed anything in advance. Was it just your DS or others affected too?

Maths went ok. Welsh tomorrow and then 4 hours of history revision which is very odd as it is geography on Friday and he does not have history until the 16th. I am bribing hime with homemade ice cream!!!

@ReformedWaywardTeen - apologies I meant your DD.

WJEC higher maths went ‘pretty well’ here. The rest of it will be sat in November.

He needs to get an A* to do further maths which he’d like to do ready for A level maths. I’m sure he’s not really my child - I’m not a fan of maths at all!

I can’t work it out either,@Muchtoomuchtodo . I barely scraped a C for my maths. Very odd having a child who’s so much better at it!

DS found the octagon question tricky too.
But thought history went ok.

Pretty much exactly what DS said. Poor kid has had the third degree from his big sister tonight - she's a history teacher - there is no escape! 😂

The mark scheme for the whole maths edexel paper is already online - Dd has poured over it and was delighted with her score which should be a 9 for this paper.

History went great! But Maths really shaken him. He was aiming for 80/80:( and that damn octagon has shaken him! Thank you for the link @OvaHere he found it so funny and cheered him up.

Dd found it on TikTok. I have no idea where they get it from - it’s looks like an actual copy of the test with workings out etc.

Why am I sad for him? I think he did great. 80/80 is aiming too high! He would surely get a 9 even if he missed a few questions - and I’ve even tried to get him to take off a few more marks for unknown errors, a grade 8 would mean he can still do Maths and further maths.

I couldn’t find link. There’s too many videos on there that will drag me into tiktok so I will try and refrain from checking

Tell him not to be down- you could miss 10 marks on each paper and still be 10 marks over the amount required for a 9. He needs to put one question bout of his mind - it was only 4 marks.

There is some swearing coming from the further maths revision room. I am biting my tongue and saying nothing about days wasted in half term…

Any other dc got nothing tomorrow?

Most have a day off tomorrow I think.
