History is cold war and Henry VIII

It depends on the school, they could choose between Anglo-Saxon and Norman or Tudor and Elizabethan. Ds wishes his school had chosen the latter

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 07/06/2023 09:33

History paper 2 for DS is Edexcel Henry VIII and his ministers and Superpower Relations and the Cold War. Weird juxtaposition of topics on this paper. Then paper 3 (Weimar and Nazi Germany, 1918-1939) is on Thu 15 June.

TeenDivided · 07/06/2023 09:58

The weird thing with maths is you have to know everything for every paper. They can't/ don't split by topic like other subjects.

Indeed.

I wonder whether the maths exams used to be closer together until everything got deliberated spaced out for COVID. It's a lot to have to revise the same content in 3 different weeks. Though DD is taking the attitude that she did it a fortnight ago, so it doesn't need doing again.

DontForgetToBreathe · 07/06/2023 10:25

DS has Cold War and Elizabeth I today.
Brilliant topics. Loved the migration topic also - but if I never have to talk about Huguenots and Walloons ever again I’ll be so happy.

minisnowballs · 07/06/2023 10:29

Agree they are great topics - but Cold War is just vast for half a paper. DD wants to do ALevel history, so this is a biggie for her. History is the only place where all of our family collide when it comes to interest - both her dad and I did A-Level and both daughters are fairly obsessed. Really really hoping she feels she's done it justice.

HappiDaze · 07/06/2023 10:38

@HippyChickMama I know it depends on the school, I think we all know that by now.

I'm just letting people know what my DD is doing at her school because that's what we're sharing on here because it's of interest.

CallmeIT · 07/06/2023 10:50

Edexcel maths (higher) “pretty okay” here. Managed to answer everything except the last question. Something to do with the formatting…

fuckmyuteruslining · 07/06/2023 10:56

Dd texted distressed about maths. First paper was good but this one wasn't. Oh well!

EverythingHurtsAndImHungry · 07/06/2023 10:58

First ever "It went well" text message after any exam today! And I'm so relieved. For some reason, I was more nervous about this exam than any of his others. I hope everyone else felt that it went well for them.

Sorry @HappiDaze, I misunderstood your post, especially because I had a minor panic the first time ds asked me to test him via Bitesize and I saw the Tudor content and he hadn't mentioned it 😂

Whatisitn0w · 07/06/2023 11:25

Are anybody else's DC doing OCR maths?

DS is hoping to do well in it and that makes me feel more nervous for him.

He won't be home until 4pm and then I don't like to quiz him too much.
IIt's nice to hear how other DC have perceived it.

Yes OCR. Not heard anything yet from DD but she's not messaging from the toilets saying it was horrible so maybe a good sign it was ok?

Whatisitn0w · 07/06/2023 11:32

@Jo14357 😁 I'll take that to be a good sign too! Thank you!

SummerCyclist98 · 07/06/2023 11:39

DD did maths this morning and it went ok, she’s now catching on TV before revising for PE tomorrow and Biology Friday pm. She’s really benefited from being able to sign out after exams this week as needs that decompress time straight after an exam not more lessons like before HT.

DorotheaDiamond · 07/06/2023 11:59

Dd not happy with edexcel either :-( it was all going so well until today!

F! What happens with Edexcel? Ds doing Edexcel and was up from 5am this morning maybe earlier…
oh well … I will not know until he gets home around 4

DorotheaDiamond · 07/06/2023 12:05

Dd said was really hard paper…she’s been doing all the practice ones easily :-(

TeenDivided · 07/06/2023 12:07

All you Edexcel maths people - I assume you are talking about the Higher tier paper?

Yes Edexcel Higher. @DorotheaDiamond do you have any idea what the tough questions were?

grass321 · 07/06/2023 12:20

My son found two questions on the Edexcel paper really hard (surds and a kite). Maths is probably one of his stronger subjects.

He's looked up the answer to one question online and said he wouldn't have got it (nor did his other friends who are in the top set).

minisnowballs · 07/06/2023 12:24

DD1 messaged saying GCSE maths was 'good'. She's higher tier Edexcel but bottom of the school's top set (a seven on a good day) so now I'm worried she's misunderstood the questions!

SheilaFentiman · 07/06/2023 12:27

Another one saying edexcel maths was hard
