@Spendonsend if you Google: history GCSE date mistake, you'll get more info. Must have been v confusing for the candidates : (

mamatravels · 19/05/2023 09:49

Can I join/lurk? Finding it comforting reading about similar emotional roller coasters. Maths a tough one for DS, clinging onto higher set. Needs a 5 for six form so am stressing....

TripleDaisySummer · 19/05/2023 10:00

DS seemed quite confident today going in - I think that because the maths department has been so well run and prepared them really well.

English after half term by contrast is looking a bit dicey for pass grade needed which as he's in the top set is quite a feat.

JudyGemstone · 19/05/2023 10:01

My daughter had 3 on Tuesday, she said her hand was so painful by the end of it she could barely write so think sociology didn’t go as well as it could have!

she seems reasonably calm though which is good.

jamimmi · 19/05/2023 10:06

Arrgh, daughter has maths today, a level Subject next year and told me she was feeling dizzy! She also had a bit of a headache. She's not had a migraine for years. Given her paracetamol and lots of fluid and told her she must tell them if it gets worse but she's the type to just try to carry on and the dizziness wasn't bad enough for her not to go in she said only mild
Can't decide if it's fatigue ot anxiety. She's a a school where they are still on full time table so I have said if she's unwell post exam to go tonthe medical room and say she's unwell. Now worrying 😟

Titsywoo · 19/05/2023 10:06

They should allow for the mistake issue. I was reading this interesting post on FB yesterday.

Yes DD has callouses on her fingers from writing so much these last few days

I’m now freaking out about the equipment thing too! I just said to DS ‘do you have your pencil case’ didn’t think to specify 😩. They do a little talk before the exam so I’m really hoping the teachers told them to check they have everything before so he could sort something out if he didn’t have anything. I won’t know now til the end and the control freak in me is not managing well 😰

My FIL is an exam invigilator and says it is surprising how many pupils turn up with nothing, not even a pen. They have a big box of equipment to hand out for this reason so don't worry if something is forgotten.

I check every day because DS is so disorganised and loses everything!

megletthesecond · 19/05/2023 10:10

circle twitter gcse is one of things keeping me sane at the moment. I know all the memes now.

HappiDaze · 19/05/2023 10:14

I wouldn't have thought this would make a massive difference tbh BUT it most definitely should not have been wrong

Edexel maths was 'Fine' according to DD...

ReformedWaywardTeen · 19/05/2023 10:39

@megletthesecond oh the memes are excellent!

DD has just text. Apparently eugh. Didn't manage to answer all as some were "mind bogglingly hard and not what we've been doing in class". I think she's a bit down because she doesn't want to have to do an extra year of sixth down to resits and doing Btecs she has no interest in.

I've said that it's all accumulated so hopefully more revision before next one.

Also someone had a phone keep buzzing near them, they're really cross as noises like that can really effect them but they were too scared to speak to the invigilator as she "looked like a dragon".

Please tell them they MUST talk to an invigilator if they hear a phone. Total malpractice and v bad for school if Inspector discovered it.

Oh I agree and have told her. They've all been told phones are to be left in their bags outside in a locked classroom.

bendmeoverbackwards · 19/05/2023 10:52

@lemonsaretheonlyfruit ASD and EBSA here too although dd hasn’t been as bad as some, attendance around 50%. She needs quite high grades to stay at her school sixth form - 46 points from her 8 best GCSEs. She achieved 42 points in the mocks so I’m cautiously hopeful.

Well done to your dd, that must have taken strength. I hope gets what she needs.

bendmeoverbackwards · 19/05/2023 10:54

@jamimmi hope your dd is ok. Mine also felt a bit unwell yesterday but I think she was dehydrated. She took a water bottle into every exam but forgets to drink!

bendmeoverbackwards · 19/05/2023 10:56

Welcome to the new people. Thank goodness for this thread.

Dd asked me to pick her up at 10.20am after maths, it is now 10.55 and she still isn’t out 🙄

dizzygirl1 · 19/05/2023 10:58

I've had a 'it was good' text so that's positive after maths! Phew.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/05/2023 11:03

No news from ds2 about his wjec maths paper.

He’s a bit of a maths whizz so should be fine but he’s also a perfectionist so I’m not expecting him to be all smiles even if he’s done well!

ds1 on the other hand always scraped along at the bottom of the higher paper set. We agreed for him to drop the the intermediate paper where the highest that he could get was a B. With a change of teacher and no longer being at the bottom of the set his confidence returned and he got a B which everyone was thrilled about. If any of your dc don’t get the pass that they need in the higher paper, dropping down a level can be exactly the right thing for them to do.

Honeylemonandginger · 19/05/2023 11:04

Hi everyone.
Just joining the chat. My daughter was quite positive about maths today. However, she has just messaged to say it was difficult. AQA

HappiDaze · 19/05/2023 11:05

Phew DD says maths wasn't too bad

HappiDaze · 19/05/2023 11:12

She did higher but I've no idea if Edexcel or AQA

ColouringPencils · 19/05/2023 11:13

Ha I am a twitter lurker too for gcse memes. Today it looks like maths was hard and it's something to do with carrots and tomatoes! Not sure what board that is. I probably won't hear from my DD until the end of the day, but she was hoping to do well in this. Still, if people generally found it hard, then that's okay as the boundaries will be lower.

ElfDragon · 19/05/2023 11:18

Anyone have any news about edexcel igcse maths? I haven’t heard from dd, but that doesn’t mean anything. She hasn’t really been instantly texting as she gets out of exams, so wouldn’t necessarily text me whether it had gone well or not.

Floraltears · 19/05/2023 11:28

My teen (edexcel paper) said it was ok, although it had questions they had never seen or heard of before today so had to leave them.
