DS eye roll and said no one tried to talk to him today about whatever the school is upset about.

Though have just realised they haven't said what's supposed to happen on days when there is just an afternoon exam - non exam days stay, home morning exams as long as there's not one in afternoon can sign out. It's only one day so he may just go in and do timetable but is somehow typical of them.

Apparently no revision sessions over half term.

Ds just sent a lovely photo of all who went up to secondary school with him from primary school. They have been in different forms throughout so good to have a last photo! They had a very small year in primary, just 9 of them so quite special to see!

That very sweet.

They had very small years for DD1 - I think it was 11- and slightly larger for DS but they all had specular fall outs or avoid each other almost immediately though they'd been happy enough at primary.

grass321 · 26/05/2023 15:36

Latin was apparently good. Although my son tends to over-confidence so we'll see.

Saisong · 26/05/2023 15:43

DD thinks German writing was 'decent', she got her 3 tenses and some Wow words in apparently. Just hope word order doesn't let her down. She thinks it will be enough to pull up her marks from the reading/listening exams which went less well. Hopefully a 5, praying for a 6!

She's now getting changed and then heading out for an ice cream with mates in the gorgeous sunshine. She deserves it - they all do!

naughty40me · 26/05/2023 15:45

@spiderlight

That made me laugh 😃

Can imagine my DS will come home covered in the same 🙄🤣

Ds reports that Psychology was "good" and leapt into the car crying "quickly away".
His last day in school uniform: he's waited nearly 12 years for this amazing moment. 😂 I suspect he's going to miss it though as he'll have to think about what he's wearing in the morning.

He doesn't think we got a "last day photo". However what he doesn't know is that I hid as he left this morning and got three quite passable ones as he walked down the drive. He doesn't really mind having his picture taken; it's more as though he feels he should object on principle, so I feel no guilt.

He has no fears over prom/last assembly threats. He doesn't want to go to prom "why would I want to wear something that stupid?" and is performing on the date of the last assembly (and wearing robes that I think most of his peers would find far more bizarre) so will be quite happy to be barred from either as he won't be going anyway.

naughty40me · 26/05/2023 19:00

My DS and most of his friends are not going to the prom either. It's not the .

My DD can't wait till its her turn...already planning her dress and she's only in year 9!

My DS is happy to be on the xbox headset with a whats app group chat running parallel (why? Just why?) until the early hours...🤦🏻‍♀️

DS bought his yearbook home earlier in the week. It has photos of each child in Y7 and Y11. I enjoyed looking for his old primary school classmates, some of whom he still mentions but I haven't seen myself in years.

DD was emailed by their art teacher yesterday with a provisional grade for their portfolio, a 4. This could go up or down once moderators look it over.
I'm hoping it goes up. They don't want to continue for A'Level but I don't think it shows how bloody hard they worked in difficult circumstances (one teacher who actually taught 4 lessons before disappearing, one who was a vile bully because DD asked to swap GCSE away from art, and one who was quite dismissive of her and sent appallingly pushy and rude emails to us parents making demands).
They're not bothered in the slightest.

DD also said her art teacher shared 2 sets of raw marks with them all yesterday. Have looked at the assessment info and previous years grade boundaries and it looks as though with those marks she’s on course for a 6. She’s not happy as she was predicted a 7. She told me tonight that she wished I had let her do business studies instead. I don’t remember ever saying she couldn’t do business studies. 🧐

Hersetta427 · 26/05/2023 21:22

Art sounds horrific- everyone says it is so much work and so much pressure to get the portfolio done.

the only marks we have are for DD’s practical PE assessment marks plus her single sport court work and training plan. She got a total of 85/100 overall which is a 9. Just have to maintain that with the written exams as it’s one of her A level choices. Anyone else with DC doing PE?

CallmeIT · 26/05/2023 22:03

We’ve had art marks as well. No idea why they would release them in an exam week, especially when they’re short of predictions / targets. Hardly motivating. I wouldn’t recommend anyone take art after DDs experience. My younger DC is now banned!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 26/05/2023 22:15

Happy half term everyone! DofE silver expedition for ds2 this weekend. He can’t wait!

I know! DD got hers last week. Why do that during exams? She was disappointed. Honestly, she worked harder for art than any other subject combined and it's probably going to be her lowest grade (and she's good at art!). She wishes she'd done computer science instead. Thank goodness she no longer wants to do it for A-level

DD wanted to swap to music. Art teacher (the bully one) and head of music said no, but I found out later it should have been sent over to the head for approval.

I also didn't say what DD should or shouldn't pick because that's what my mum did, she actually changed one of my choices without my knowledge!

DD didn't get the options evening, at that time, they picked options in March 2020, to start GCSEs in September 2020, year 9 (they don't do this anymore).
You can see from the dates why this didn't go well! They thought music required an instrument. It didn't, she has one, her voice.

She has hated art throughout. Found it boring, and felt everyone was far more talented.

But I would've liked to see her get higher, she was predicted 6 all the way through. I'm blaming dodgy teachers frankly.

CallmeIT · 26/05/2023 22:45

@LighthouseCat yep, likely to be the same here. The worst grade of the bunch (I hope so anyway!) and it also took away valuable time from other subjects. It was a massive mistake. I thought so when she chose it but she was keen to have a GCSE “for enjoyment”. Unfortunately she ended up hating it. Her art teacher has a special talent for turning them off art it seems 😠

SweetChilliGirl · 27/05/2023 07:19

Same here. My DD was predicted a 7 and spent a ridiculous amount of time on her portfolio and was told last week that it would probably be a 5: although the quality was worth a 7 or 8, there wasn't enough!

I feel terrible - I encouraged art as I thought it would be an easy and enjoyable option as a counterbalance to all her academic studies. Now it will probably be her worst grade and it sucked up a stupid amount of her time

Thankfully, my DS has opted for food tech

SweetChilliGirl · 27/05/2023 07:20

Oh, and the icing on the cake is that she now hates art 😢

memenotea · 27/05/2023 07:30

The workload for art was insane! A lot of revision time was missed here due to art being finished off. I was so pleased when it was all handed in!
S he was doing art for a level but has recently requesting a change of subject and I’m very pleased.

MsElizabethBennett · 27/05/2023 07:35

For art and any other subject that has a NEA, the school have to give the students their pre moderated marks. This is to give them time to appeal if they feel they are wrong. All marks needed to be submitted to exam board by 15th May, well for edexcel anyway.

Yep DD hates art now too.

I did say at the time art is a funny subject, my sister did it and got a D, get lowest grade in anything, it's so subjective.

CornishCoast · 27/05/2023 10:18

Latin was good, DD has worked very hard to revise for this. Had a difficult night, she went from thrilled it was half term to v tired, ate a big pizza to celebrate but then felt crap after it, finished with tears and stress at midnight. Leaving her to sleep till lunchtime and hopefully she will be feeling better today.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 27/05/2023 11:47

DD has announced she is having the weekend off and will get back to it on Monday.

memenotea · 27/05/2023 12:40

We’ve gone away for the week to a cottage by the sea.
Hopefully a good mix of revision, swimming in the sea and relaxing.

Apparently they grade marking had got really really tough for Art and its very hard to get a high grade. Really rubbish for those kids that don't excel academically but are really creative. My son was on course for a really high grade but his raw scores suggest otherwise now

Spring45Mermaid · 27/05/2023 13:53

@Hersetta427 my dd is doing PE AQA and wants to do Alevel, she also got 85 on coursework but didn’t know the grade so that’s brill it’s a 8 or 9.
