In section C you answer 2 questions of a choice of 3. Each question is worth 15 marks each. The examiner will mark them all and he’ll be awarded marks for the best 2. The only problem is, time is really tight. But all is not lost at all. He’ll absolutely get some marks.

He asked invigilator and they said to cross some out or something as it was on glaciers and they hadn't studied that. I don't know what he means. I hope it's OK.

He's just said its OK because he did the other 2 much better. He hadn't studied glaciers so didn't write as much for that.

DanceMumTaxi · 22/05/2023 21:52

Ahh so he should have done Q3 coasts and Q4 rivers. He accidentally carried on to Q5 glaciers. The examiner will just mark coasts and rivers which is what it sounds like he was supposed to do all along. He’ll be fine.

DanceMumTaxi · 22/05/2023 21:55

It’s an easy mistake to make. The titles for each section are tiny - so easy to miss. Ours have to miss out Q3 coasts. It was a lovely paper though. Plenty for the top end to get their teeth into, but definitely accessible for middle/lower attainers. My class came to find me afterwards and they were really pleased.

It's the first mistake he's made like that and Geography one of his strongest but it looks like he will be ok!

'I think that's what my son did.....he answered a section he didn't need to. 🤔 but he still completed everything he needed to first so I guess he will be ok.'

My ds and lots of his year apparently did this too 🙈 He was a bit annoyed he'd wasted time answering something he said he didn't really know much about, but overall he was really happy with geography and said chemistry was ok too.

@Beccaboo822

I think glaciers is one of the topics they can study. My dd said she panicked as 2 minutes before she end she thought she had missed a question but realised it was the glaciers one which they hadn't done.

She said she kept having to check to reassure herself it wasn't for the question before.

Rowgtfc72 · 23/05/2023 04:14

Dd said chemistry was OK yesterday.
French today which she doesn't really care about.
Her nemesis is also English Lit. ( gutting to me as my degree is in English Lit and I love Shakespeare who she can't stand)

Revision seems to have chilled a bit here now. She's either realised she knows most of it and doesn't need to do 5 hrs revision per subject, or she's realised she can actually do this and gcses are not as scary as the school led them to believe.

MerylSqueak · 23/05/2023 06:43

Good luck to DCs with Maths today. My y11 pupil in school looked like she'd been in the ring with Mike Tyson after her last Maths. She said Chemistry (WJEC) was ok though and it's one of her weakest.

ReformedWaywardTeen · 23/05/2023 06:47

DD gets a lie in today as no exams but they've decided to go in for English lit cram this afternoon.

They actually got a bit teary last night over Chem. I think they would rather not get a very low mark but science is difficult for them and the teachers are bloody horrible. I'm hoping the whole department gets the chop soon as the school moves to academy status.

I did have a realisations yesterday: this year is DDs GCSEs. Next year is DS.
If DD does get 4 in maths then they'll do A'levels the year after, and the next year is DS' A'levels.

4 years of exam worry! Eek!

I've never regretting the lack of gap between my two until now!

Isn't maths Wednesday? That's when ds' is and I thought all boards had maths at the same time.

MerylSqueak · 23/05/2023 06:53

Sorry if I have panicked you. WJEC Maths is today. I don't know about the other boards.

The 'English' boards have remaining maths on Wed 7 & 14th June

MerylSqueak · 23/05/2023 06:58

Now you've got me doubting myself....

Kranken · 23/05/2023 06:58

RS Short Course this pm (as well as full course) so lots of students taking an exam they really don't want to be in and will (understandably) have at the bottom of their priority lists. An interesting afternoon....

MerylSqueak · 23/05/2023 07:01

I've just checked her timetable. It is WJEC Intermediate Maths this morning.

No you're correct for Wales (just checked).

AbbyGal · 23/05/2023 07:16

DS just left with a 'I hate French' face - it's definitely his weakest subject and he keeps reminding us that we made him do it (I think I started a thread about if having a MFL is actually important).

I think the tiredness is kicking in too. Roll on half term.

Good luck to all today

Years ago we used to be able to write the question numbers on a board at the front of the room to remind them, but we’re not allowed to now. It used to help stop this kind of thing from happening. It’s not fair really because it’s not cheating, just making sure they answer questions on the stuff they’ve actually been taught. We’ve tried loads of different strategies to help them remember, but a few always panic and forget. I advise ours to find the question they’re not doing and put a big cross through the first page as soon as they start the exam. Then when they’re an hour in and they come to the big cross it reminds them to miss it out.

dizzygirl1 · 23/05/2023 07:21

French here today, foundation which dd fought for as her teacher wanted her to do higher but she hates it and struggles with it so much.
Although she's not looking forward to it, she's happier the pressure is off for this one, as it's expected to be her lowest mark. Eng lit tomorrow and physics Thursday and then a break 🥳 or known as revision week! 🤦‍♀️

BackT · 23/05/2023 07:37

RE here today too.

She was asking about English Lit. and you all might know...

DD did Jekyll & Hide and Much ado about nothing last week and this week she has Lord of the Flies and Conflict Poetry.

How come some have J&H tomorrow? Don't they have to do the same texts at the same time?

Apologies if this has been asked already...

Neversaygoodbye · 23/05/2023 07:37

Good luck to those with exams today. Mine both GCSE and A level are both going in for English Lit revision sessions.

tourdefrance · 23/05/2023 07:45

@BackT - it will be different exam boards so different questions too.
Same overall subject to avoid clashes but not topic.
