Chemistry and Geography today too and she wants to do both at A Level!

Neversaygoodbye · 22/05/2023 06:43

@powerrangers I know right! DD was the same too, and is planning to study English Lit at Uni....I actually would have preferred to do this too but was persuaded not to take it at A level due to job prospects by my parents. I've encouraged both my DC to study subjects they believe they will enjoy at A level.

mumonthehill · 22/05/2023 06:44

Chem and geog here too, ds wants to do both for A Level so big day!! Good luck all

MerylSqueak · 22/05/2023 06:45

Good luck to all your DCs in their Chemistry and Geography exams today, and to you for getting them calmly out of the door.

You must be very bright to have been able to do a chemistry degree when you heart was in EngLit. The sciences are tough degrees for anyone let alone someone who doesn't love them!

powerrangers · 22/05/2023 06:52

@mumonthehill @Daydreamscometrue
Best of luck to yours. Wanting to do both at a-level certainly puts an additional stress on them 💪🏼 go do it!!!

Daydreamscometrue · 22/05/2023 06:53

@powerrangers Thank you. Good luck to all today!

Spring45Mermaid · 22/05/2023 07:04

Good luck all. DD is worrying about Chemistry as doesn’t want to do it at A level as stronger in biology and physics but needs min G6 in Chemistry to do Biology at Alevel and has been getting strong G5 in mocks Arrhh. She got a 7 in physics which was the only thing keeping her in the triple science group all her mates were moved at Easter into double. The school haven’t handled it very well at all, not finishing the course then moving all the groups round as they panicked at Easter and loosing half the teachers. I really feel for her up against it today.

Neversaygoodbye · 22/05/2023 07:09

@powerrangers bless you, that's very kind - I've never considered myself particularly bright but I work hard and have a love of learning which helps.

SheilaFentiman · 22/05/2023 07:15

I’m scared for ds1 today, he doesn’t feel he knows what he needs to know.

TeddybearBaby · 22/05/2023 07:30

DS has chemistry and geography too but he had two in one day last week so doesn’t really feel overwhelming.

He said last night ‘I can’t wait to get this geography exam over so I never have to think about it again’ I said I thought it was one of your favourite subjects? He said ‘it was but I’ve realised that that was just because of the great teacher, I liked him and his lessons’……….. you do know you’ve picked it for a level don’t you? Shocked face in response, this kid 😵‍💫.

Good luck today everyone!!

ReformedWaywardTeen · 22/05/2023 07:32

DD does not care about science at all. They do independent study during science lessons as the teaching group for it are abhorrently poor and we got sick of their attitude towards DD.

So they're pretty chilled

No exams tomorrow but they do have English cram for the last two periods of normal school day. Then the scary English poetry for over 2 hours. Think they'd have preferred that to be the Macbeth one as they don't gel with the poetry as much.

Then media cram before the test which they're looking forward to.

Had a quiet weekend as I've been ill (probably my anxiety causing no sleep and migraine). They went to a jumble sale though yesterday and found vintage goth belts so that cheered them up no end

Good luck all for this week, may AQA, EDEXCEL and the rest be kind to our Covid cohort

Gaps caused by the Covid disruptions are coming to light

DS woken up burning up, headache, sore throat. Not the best to sit an exam bless him. Luckily it's his worst subject, Chemistry, so not expecting much from it anyway.

I'm about to drive him to school, a 50 mile round trip, and pick him up straight after as don't want him in his taxi. Will ring school on the way.

good luck to all taking exams today.

memenotea · 22/05/2023 08:06

Will be very glad when today is over.

disappointed101 · 22/05/2023 08:07

Shit my son is unwell and won’t be able to sit his two exams today. WTF do I do? I’ve rung school but it is going to voicemail. He has worked so hard I’m so sad for him.

Saisong · 22/05/2023 08:15

So sorry to hear of these poor sick kids, hope they feel better soon. Even though I'm sure they'd rather not take exams at all, in this circumstance it must be so disappointing not to be able to take your chance to prove yourself after their tricky last few years.

DD has left the house saying this is the worst day of her life. She has Chemistry exam, double English crammer, Geography exam (a'level option too, and so despondent about her revising last night) and then to make matters worse a 2 hour Astronomy crammer after school. She will be shattered. The one silver lining is no exam tomorrow.

SheilaFentiman · 22/05/2023 08:22

Holy heck, @Saisong - that’s masses!

Beccaboo822 · 22/05/2023 08:24

So typical there's so much illness around at the moment :-(

I don't know, hopefully school office are filtering the GCSE sitters but I'd be tempted to email exams officer, HoY, tutor so the message gets through quicker. That may be OTT. They can still get a grade if they only sit one of the exams, you may need a doctor's note so I would ring GP too.

DD lurching from chilled to freaking out about Chemistry today. She didn't spent much time on it over the weekend and is regretting that choice this morning. Definitely the worst morning we have had.

Oh that's so gutting. I think they'll calculate his grade based on the other exams on that subject. I think you'll need a GP note. Hopefully someone will reply who knows abit more about it all.

bendmeoverbackwards · 22/05/2023 10:03

@Neversaygoodbye fellow Chemistry graduate here! Embarrassingly I could barely remember much GCSE content to help dd but she’s been revising herself. Lots of comments along the lines of ‘Mum how did you study this, it’s so boring’ 😂😂

Neversaygoodbye · 22/05/2023 10:13

@bendmeoverbackwards I'm the same, it all went out of my head many years ago as soon as I moved out of the scientific field. DH on the other hand is very good with his chemistry & also biology but sadly neither DC would engage & let him help them.

Spring45Mermaid · 22/05/2023 10:13

So sorry to hear about the poorly ones and I hope they can recover quickly. I’m hoping my DD had covid 10d ago as she had a “snotty cold” for a week, then her sister did, but I’ve been floored by it this weekend & tested for the first time in over a year as I felt v.rough to find it’s covid! I’ve stayed out the way at home but really missed being able to give her good luck hugs.
… I do wonder how you’re meant to get these mythical “doctors notes” though?! Even if you’re a working adult you have to self cert for first week. Not sure our GPs would.
