D's has had a day of rehearsing for a show at the end of June, and he's rehearsing tomorrow too.
However the deal was If I let him, then he revised and he's done a couple of hours this evening and said he's getting up early to do some first thing tomorrow.
He's also had a shower without too much nagging.😳😵😳
So good result all round.

SheilaFentiman · 20/05/2023 23:11

DS1 wandered up to me 3 minutes before I needed to leave the house this evening to catch a train, saying that he couldn’t find his Hazards folder for geography and he didn’t know when he’d last seen it and maybe that was why he’d never done very well on it in topic tests.

YOU THINK!!?!?!?

Gah!

SheilaFentiman · 21/05/2023 00:15

Just got home, he’s still writing out geography cards

mumonthehill · 21/05/2023 06:14

Ds spent some of the day yesterday revising in the sun and then went for a swim in the sea. It is going to be a long week i think!!

kidstaxidriver · 21/05/2023 06:36

Definitely not expecting a good day tomorrow. Chemistry v weak indeed and trying to juggle that with revisiting geography (which is stronger but they need to do well in it). The 2 hours of Chem could be v painful………don’t even know where to start!

Changes17 · 21/05/2023 08:34

Apparently no-one’s revising geography, DS says. So that’s fine then.
Hopefully he’s going to put in some time today.

megletthesecond · 21/05/2023 09:26

Geography is DS's favourite subject. I've offered him £50 if he gets a 9 (got 7 and 8 in mocks with no revision). And he still can't be bothered to revise......

Changes17 · 21/05/2023 09:33

Maybe it’s because the adrenalin of the first few exams is over. Now it’s just the long haul…

Agreed. I think the first week lulled me into a false sense of security

My ds won't revise geography for some reason

SheilaFentiman · 21/05/2023 10:23

Aaargh, sodding geography!

naughty40me · 21/05/2023 10:28

My DS has got the "can't be arsed" attitude aswell.....bloody teenagers!!

He passes everything without much effort. He doesn't know how lucky he is.

If he was any more laid back he would be horizontal 😂

Grr I've got one of those. Could be amazing; does ok.

I also have one who works damn hard, has a disability and gets very little return. Poor kid.

I scream very quietly into my bedroom wall.

YellowDots · 21/05/2023 10:53

I think that third week will be the worst one.

First week - here we go, let's do this!
Second week - not this again, at least it's half term on Friday
Third week - AGH!
Last week - last week!

Spring45Mermaid · 21/05/2023 11:41

Those with ND kids sensitive to noise are these worth a try my DH uses them at work and travelling, and nobody notices! and he has a buzz cut style hair. Seriously I would just bloomin wear them unless challenged.

DontForgetToBreathe · 21/05/2023 11:42

Good luck to everyone keeping it together for the next few weeks. Does anyone have to help their DS plan their revision? I still seem to be writing it out and he sticks to it, but sometimes I have NO idea how much revision a subject like Geography would be. What I found easy, DS finds hard. And sails through some of the really hard stuff.

What does a normal day’s revision plan look like?

Spring45Mermaid · 21/05/2023 11:45

Our revision plan consists of me putting my head round DDs door “are you getting dressed today? Err.. assume some Chemistry is a good idea?..yeah ~ is the reply 🤣IF I even attempted to tell her what to do she wouldn’t out of defiance but she’s a great kid who motivates herself. I’m dreading in 4yrs time when ASD/PDA youngest gets to this point it will be a very different level of support required!

Spring45Mermaid · 21/05/2023 11:47

@YellowDots i think that’s an accurate rurate reflection of how things will go in our house

As an invigilator I wouldn't recommend doing that! If they were noticed half way through the exam it could cause all sorts of trouble. Far better to discuss with learning support etc beforehand.

memenotea · 21/05/2023 12:30

On Friday the weekend seemed to span ahead with plenty of time for chemistry and geography revision. It’s now Sunday afternoon and there appears to be lots left to do!

tourdefrance · 21/05/2023 12:34

I’m definitely still supporting revision @DontForgetToBreathe .
This week that involved giving DS a chemistry past paper to start / do on Thursday after school (which he mostly ignored in favour of maths), some relevant pages of geography on Friday after school, more chemistry (same paper) Saturday am and then a Geography past paper Saturday pm and helped him mark it. He then decided to do a bit more chemistry after that.

It’s a classic case of ‘The Hare and the Tortoise’.
The children that have always had it hard learn to be resilient and keep on trying and working hard. In the end the tortoises overtake the hares.
All those children that have slogged through school fighting difficulties do really well in the workplace (look at the very high percentage of self made millionaires who are dyslexic) and those who are very academic and have never experienced failure or having to work hard/fight to the top end up bro g the mediocre ones.
I also have a mix - 2 children with learning disabilities plus physical illness and 2 who always do well in tests at school without working hard.

MerylSqueak · 21/05/2023 12:41

@SmurfHaribos I am willing to bet that's true but I can't help wishing DD had a little less need for her resilience!

Neversaygoodbye · 21/05/2023 13:33

DS also seems to have completely flagged after the first week and believes the "whole" weekend should be for chilling out and recharging rather than revision. He's a middle of the road kid as are many of us, but could do better if he'd work harder. I think part of the problem is knowing what he needs for college and deciding that's his target.
