I've discovered i'm not very good at waiting for news. Term ends today. Has anyone heard back about second interviews yet or is it likely to be early January?

Thank you - good to know! :)

Amazing! I know you weren't hopeful so that's great news for your DS. We too are also not hopeful, but it would be good to know for sure one way or the other

Seekingstressrelief · 10/02/2023 12:48

We also received an offer. Congratulations to all!!

waiting for Hampton now - I think it’s coming by email today? Has anyone else’s heard?

redrobin75 · 10/02/2023 12:54

@Seekingstressrelief , on the other active thread in this section there are Hampton offers via the portal as well as email.

Seekingstressrelief · 10/02/2023 12:58

Ah no email here. Maybe that’s bad news then.. I went out before the post arrived so don’t know if there’s anything there.

ttbn · 10/02/2023 17:12

Great news! We've had nothing - no email or post today (mind you, there was no post at all), so assuming it's a no or they've forgotten about us!

ttbn · 10/02/2023 17:45

@SpecialToMe I emailed them as we also had no post and they gave us a steer. Worth doing that just in case. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

hi all- our son got his offer today :) v happy but t b h i’m not sure what to do as we live in ashtead and he would have to get train…i should have checked but.the whole entrance thing was quite last minute! only 1 an hour. plus ive 2 other kids to sort out. does anyone know about getting the train? and are there many after school clubs?

maniami · 11/02/2023 08:24

There’ll be loads of boys getting the train. My boys go from Berkshire side and leave the house about 7.30am and they get the train to Guildford station and walk up and are in school by 8.15am. Lots come in from London Road side too. I wouldn’t worry and after a few weeks it’ll become a simple routine. The only thing to worry about are the damn train strikes! We usually end up driving them in, hopefully won’t be a problem going forward!

Seekingstressrelief · 11/02/2023 11:39

My son will be getting the train too. But not till 2025! Apparently they all sit in the same carriage the the train journey is fun. And they’ll be able to travel home independently if they do clubs or, when older, if they want to hang out with friends after school. We are v excited 😆 Congratulations again to everyone 😁

SpecialToMe · 11/02/2023 11:52

Post arrived - DS has an offer! Both he and I are very proud. We'd discounted it in the decision process so everything is now up in the air again. A lot of thinking to do over half term. Congrats again to everyone with offers, and hopefully the rest arrive in the post today 😊

Surreymom18 · 11/02/2023 11:59

Anyone planning to go from Epsom?

pollyr01 · 11/02/2023 15:25

very well done to everyone who got in – amazing achievements :)
we had slightly written it off too!
If anyone is coming from near Epsom/Dorking, drop me a line x

villagegirlatheart · 12/02/2023 16:57

Also wanted to say well done! My son is in year 9 now and absolutely loves it there

Hi! Congrats all. My son got his letter yesterday and will be coming from Leatherhead so will be travelling most of your son's route :). I also have two other kids to sort out so will take a while to get my head around the logistics in September but I'm sure it'll soon become second-nature...hopefully! X

Aror · 24/02/2023 12:08

Hello, we have got an offer from RGS also for Y7 starting in Sept'23. Obviously very thrilled but feeling a bit tentative regarding travel and social circle as we live in Raynes Park/ Wimbledon. Does anyone have or plan to send children on the train from this side ? DS is not street smart and has been sheltered, until now. Hoping the commute will make him independent but also mindful that the commute etc doesn't break him. Also how do not very academic children fare in RGS. Mindful that it produces great results and only offers places to kinds who have done well in the assessments but not everyone can be in the top set. How brutal or stressful is it for those in the bottom half of the class.

SheilaFentiman · 24/02/2023 12:23

@Aror my older one was “middle third” and has dyslexia. I would say pastoral care at RGS has been excellent.

There won’t be loads from Wimbledon - lots of London based boys will go to a London school. DS1 has largely made friends outside of our town anyway, even though there are plenty of more local boys from here.

GU24Mum · 24/02/2023 14:26

I'd agree with the PP - the academics will be fine provided your son won't be at the lower end of the ability range but also be bothered about being there.

Where you live will definitely be an outlier : there won't be many that far out though once you get to Surbiton/Esher, far more. Personally I'd prefer my child to be more
obviously within the circle of where most of the boys are based.

Justarrivedlondon · 24/02/2023 14:42

@Aror In the open day, there is a map in a room (Geography room?) where visitors can pin on the location they came from. There wasn't any beyond Esher/Oxshott. Very few would come that far away unless they plan to move one day, or you are right within walking distance of a direct train line.

Seekingstressrelief · 24/02/2023 15:13

@Aror we are claygate/ Esher and there are quite a few boys who get the train from Claygate. We are on the same line at Wimbledon so your son would meet them on the train. My son and his friends not joining until Y9 though - Sept 2025.

ttbn · 24/02/2023 15:20

We will be taking the train from Raynes Park. They will be so much more resilient by then or I hope but for now have no plans to move as we all commute in different directions!

yellowrose9 · 24/02/2023 15:20

Hi

any of your who has been offered a place in RGS - did you use Atom Learning to prepare him for the exam? If yes, do you mind sharing what sort of SAS scores he was getting please?

Seekingstressrelief · 24/02/2023 16:29

Hi @yellowrose9 my son is at a prep school and they started doing work on Atom in year 4. I don’t know what the SAS scores are but CATS my son was averaging around 128 - higher in verbal (139) and a bit lower in NVR and quantitative. He is bright but not exceptional - near the top of the class in English but middle third in maths. It’s a fairly academic prep school though.
