Anyone else have a DC sitting 11+ this Autumn?

If so, would you like to chat on a support thread?

DD is sitting her exam tomorrow.

Anyone else? Waiting for the results will be nail-biting.

First thing DD said this morning.... before good morning or hello.... "Is it 5 days now"
Me (not quite awake yet) "5 days until what?"
Her (looking a bit annoyed that I'd forgotten) "is it 5 days until we find out what school I'm in"

I think it's going so slow now it's in single figures, when we were counting down in weeks it seemed to go faster.

I'm actually glad to be working this weekend so it'll take my mind off it all.

starpatch · 24/02/2023 20:17

Oh that is painful. I am lucky in that DS seems to have forgotten about the date- I am hoping the school don't remind them next week.

Aethelfleda · 25/02/2023 21:01

DS is aware it’s 1st March soon, but not which day: it’s pretty unlikely many others from his school will get a place at our target GS as we are relying on the sib rule (out of cachement distance has shrunk by several miles since DD1 got in, unless the children are siblings) Our primary school does have some kids who are in cachement, they live further from the GS geographically but do get places as the county border line is (very) wonky.

He knows a few kids from the next village and they have some friends who will be likely to get places, so my next job may be setting up a few playdates before the summer! The GS has quite a wide intake so if the place is ours on March 1st he’ll get an invite to their holiday “day camp” week which is basically an icebreaker for all the new Y7s.

Internet scrolling to distract myself...it was a mistake. I discovered this headline 😭😭😭 (have posted this on another thread also so apologies to anyone on that one too.)

11 plus support thread 2022
Maybetoofarsouth · 26/02/2023 09:14

@ElvenDreamer I saw that too.... I didn't get through all of it before the paywall descended, but I think it said nearly 80% will get their first choice.

Really nearly there now. I'm away with the family for last day of half term, then I'm working away this week so it'll flash by for me. Will be checking my phone every 5 minutes on Wednesday!

Aethelfleda · 26/02/2023 13:49

<puts down another tray of tea and choc chip cookies, the big squishy sort>

<surreptitiously followed by a bottle of Tanq Ten and Schweppes’ tonic, and naice glasses>

ElvenDreamer · 26/02/2023 14:14

Ah thanks @Aethelfleda , you know what is needed.
adding some kettle chips and salted nuts in case the combination of sugar and nerves needs balancing out with something savoury...

Dynamix · 27/02/2023 19:40

Urgh... just logged on to the school portal just in case someone at the council had pressed 'publish' on the school allocations early. Unsurprisingly they hadn't 😆 I literally had the worst butterflies / dread feeling just logging in though so think I'll be a complete wreck on Wednesday especially if I need to check multiple times throughout the day. A couple of people I know have said they're checking from one minute past midnight. As ridiculous as it sounds, does anyone have any experience of their area actually doing this? I just want the pain (and my probably self induced drama) to end!!

Unsuredad123 · 27/02/2023 20:15

@Dynamix I'm Pretty sure Devon was showing on the website at 1201 last year.

ElvenDreamer · 27/02/2023 20:21

I just casually logged into eleven plus forum to see someone has set up the 2023 allocations thread in readiness. Made me feel quite ill 😔 I suspect tomorrow will feel like it has 48 hours in it.

@Dynamix I refused to stay up last year, but did check about 3am when I randomly woke. When I posted on 11 plus forum allocations thread at a more sensible hour of the morning I noticed the 1st poster posted at around 1am so I'm guessing they stayed up!

Oh my! I thought it might be an urban myth. I'll probably check at some point in the night if I wake up then as I tend to sleep poorly anyway and waiting on this certainly won't help.

CreateAName123 · 27/02/2023 20:37

We stayed up with my eldest, kept refreshing my emails from midnight. Then about 12.30 logged into my online account and the place and as on there.
I'm not planning to stay up this time but doubt I'll be able to sleep

DD has complained upon going to bed saying it's ages away til she finds out.

Thank you. All I've read is that we'll get an email in office hours on the 1st but we can also log on to online portal (time unspecified). I think I'll likely be checking in the wee hours when I wake up anyway. Good luck everyone 🤞

Aethelfleda · 27/02/2023 20:44

the mods always seem to set up the places threads a few days in advance on the forums, it’s so they have standardised titles I think as opposed to some random poster making up a wacky thread title

I’m working on Weds so unless the places go up early, will probably check when home from work unless I totally crack .

<passes more gin>

CreateAName123 · 27/02/2023 21:09

Right...I've worked all weekend and kept me busy. Now I've finished for the week so tomorrow will probably drag.

starpatch · 28/02/2023 14:27

Thanks for the tip about the 11 plus forum have just registered as may be able to link up with other new starters. I could see from last year that someone got their kent offer at 3pm so will definitely check just before DS comes home from school. I have bought a cake- hopefully to celebrate.

CreateAName123 · 28/02/2023 15:02

It feels so close yet still so far away.... I just want to know and see it written down in black and white!!!

Aethelfleda · 28/02/2023 17:38

Neeeaaarly there, ladies!….

Dynamix · 28/02/2023 17:52

Time is ticking slowly... 😂 Slept so poorly last night I think I'll be up by default to see the results come in.

Lucylootwo · 28/02/2023 18:07

I’m here, like all casually checking my e-mail is still working and double checking that I did in fact complete the application! I’m on pins 😬

ElvenDreamer · 28/02/2023 18:22

I've given up all pretence of not waiting up, I can't not do it. I need to know! 5 hours and 40 mins...time has indeed slowed

Where did you see the threads set up? There's nothing in my area, Wirral. Thank you!

ElvenDreamer · 28/02/2023 18:35

@Maybetoofarsouth my area is Essex and there is a thread set up in the Essex section of the 11+ forum for us.

ElvenDreamer · 28/02/2023 18:38

Just looking in the Wirral section now to be nosey, the threads seem slightly different in style. In Essex there is a results thread and then an allocations thread every year. People use them to gauge probability on other years based on what they've seen in previous threads if you see what I mean.

Dynamix · 28/02/2023 18:41

I think some counties are much more active than others on there. The Yorkshire one is pretty dead.
