Anyone else have a DC sitting 11+ this Autumn?

If so, would you like to chat on a support thread?

DD is sitting her exam tomorrow.

Anyone else? Waiting for the results will be nail-biting.

@jessieminto will be doing the same! Good luck x

peacypops · 19/10/2022 23:08

@Noon12 Trafford results last year were available around 2pm.

Noon12 · 20/10/2022 00:53

@peacypops thank you! Let’s see what tomorrow brings, I hope it’s good news for all who are awaiting

Kind of feels a bit like all the expectation is on the kids who did well to either keep quiet or give all the empathy but no expectation on the kids who didn't to let the others have their enjoyment of it. You don't want them going around everyone telling them how well they did or going on about it forever or like they're a better person, but they should at least feel able to feel proud/be happy/share. DD surpassed her own expectations with her results and is entitled, IMHO, to be chuffed.

I have to say that I have been deeply impressed with how my DC's cohort have reacted no matter what their result. Only 2 passed but there has been a lot of kindness and congratulations for everyone. I hope your DC get to feel like this soon. I think a bit of time might help the ones who are upset

Pengweng · 20/10/2022 07:13

Still waiting on Trafford results here. Hardly slept a wink and still no sign of them. Fingers crossed for 2pm and that both of mine pass! One will be very upset if they don't.

jessieminto · 20/10/2022 07:36

@Pengweng last day of waiting now. Good luck. I shall unreasonably be checking every hour, just in case! Roll on 2pm

Coops1988 · 20/10/2022 08:24

Ah @Pengweng hope they both do! And good luck to others still waiting, you've had the longest stretch of all of us.

ElvenDreamer · 20/10/2022 08:58

Good luck all! I just read the most annoying thing in the 11+ forum today, someone saying their results where they've clearly driven their poor kids round the country to take several 11+ exams in different counties, and are now weighing up their results to see which county they need to quickly move to and have most chance of a place. I'm having to sit very hard on my hands not to say something rude! Someone talk me down please, it's totally up to them of course and I realise I'm being utterly selfish but dammit, I don't want 2 kids from 4 counties away being the cause of my local kid not getting into his nearest grammar!

wejammin · 20/10/2022 09:39

Waiting on Trafford result....I genuinely feel sick and can't concentrate on work. It's ridiculous 🤣 I just want DS to be happy really, it all feels like a total gamble.

I know it's a good problem to have, but is anyone else's child who DID pass well finding it hard to navigate the situation with classmates who didn't? DD almost feels like she's not allowed to be excited and share with her friends and even when she tried to be nice to a girl who was crying another child just "gave her a look" as he obviously didn't think it was helpful, but she wasn't trying to be unhelpful!

My DC's best friend didn't pass, they've both been a little sad but have handled it amazingly so far, arranging to meet at home when they start their new schools separately.
(It may be different come July when they leave primary, I foresee loads of crying)

Dynamix · 20/10/2022 11:16

Good luck today everyone!

MKDmumofflash · 20/10/2022 11:16

Re the reaction to results we're half way between the range of experiences here. Dd was the only child to sit the tests and so there isn't anyone upset because they didn't get in.

However I'm already THAT parent who has ideas above her station and the going for grammar school (let alone boarding) means I worry my reputation will be extended onto DD.

The pressure for social media has ramped up a level recently and resisting this feels like it will be interpreted that I'm isolating her even more from her friends.

MKDmumofflash · 20/10/2022 12:27

Is that a poster beginning with D @ElvenDreamer ? Such a poster commented on 'my' area board and the implication was that they had passed the test but had NO IDEA how the over subscription criteria worked. I am also sitting on my hands itching to respond!

ElvenDreamer · 20/10/2022 12:33

@MKDmumofflash nope, beginning with an R. Oh gosh, there are loads aren't there, this is the exam tourism a PP spoke of! It's making me feel ridiculously defensive of my DS's as yet entirely hypothetical place! There are a few people in different places looking to move closer if they think their place is safe, this one just annoyed me most as they appear to have targeted 2 or 3 tests in random counties and are clearly just going to move to wherever they think their chances are strongest come March!

jessieminto · 20/10/2022 13:24

@ElvenDreamer we're less than 1 mile from our local grammar and I feel so strongly now about the tourism aspect. I'm so glad our criteria is based on distance. DS just needs to scrape a pass and he will be fine, only the Top 20 get offered regardless of distance.

35 minutes to go....Hmm

Pengweng · 20/10/2022 14:23

Still nothing!! Ahhhhh

MoFoFlo · 20/10/2022 14:27

Still waiting for Trafford results 🙄

jessieminto · 20/10/2022 14:29

Urgh this is killing me. Nothing yet.

wejammin · 20/10/2022 14:34

Aaargh!

jessieminto · 20/10/2022 14:57

The results are in for us, DS didn't get in. Our local comp is not really an option so we will probably move house and move closer to grandparents.

Best of luck for everyone else. Flowers

Noon12 · 20/10/2022 15:05

@jessieminto i am so sorry to hear this! I am still waiting I can’t see the results on the portal just that it’s completed!

wejammin · 20/10/2022 15:18

@Noon12 click the printer button and it will upload the results.

DS passed Stretford, Sale and Urmston. Missed Alty by 7 marks but he was never going there anyway. I've never felt so relieved in my life.

@jessieminto sorry to hear your DS didn't pass. I'm sure it will work out ok as he's clearly got a very caring mum.

tea1tea2 · 20/10/2022 17:00

Someone posted a link for 11plus results discussion forums . Can you please pist it again

Pengweng · 20/10/2022 17:11

It's a pass for both of mine for all four grammars. So proud of them both and relieved! They are pretty set on Sale so that will be top of the list for us.

ElvenDreamer · 20/10/2022 17:58

Sorry to hear that @jessieminto , are there some nice school options to look at near grand parents then? Hope you find something you like.

Well done @wejammin and @Pengweng .
