How often do you wash school blazer?

As the title reads, how often do you wash dc school blazer?
I was going to wash every week but wondering if that's too much (don't want it to start looking a little worn out too quickly). It is good old polyester though (had a choice between polyester and wool, washing and drying was one of the reasons went with polyester and the fact the wool blazer cost an arm and a leg)

When my DC were in Yr7 and 8 I used to wash once every half term.
as they got bigger and sweatier I washed it weekly - sometimes it would be really stinky!

Having stood near some of these teens in their blazers, I suspect some don’t get washed very often at all, or that removing a deep-rooted whiff might be pretty difficult. Gotta love teens.

Only once a month or so. They are ‘washable’, but don’t look brilliant after a term or two, even with only monthly washing.

I take them to the dry cleaners every half term. I wouldn't wash them!

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 11/09/2022 14:52

I wash once every half term. As I do with ties. (I have a personal strong aversion to dirty and oily ties and both Dcs have 3 each which I rotate).

I do a very gentle wash but they do start to look a little faded and blotchy. I will sponge clean stains in between.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 11/09/2022 14:54

Oh and to add that my Dcs are in Yr 8 and Yr 6. neither have really got to the smelly teen stage yet. Not sure what I will do after that.

LottieTx · 11/09/2022 14:55

I wouldn’t wash them - my plan is to spot wash any specific stains and if it needs a proper wash I’ll get it dry cleaned. Other than that I can’t see it needing washing more than that?

SomethingFast · 11/09/2022 14:56

Twice a week on a gentle wash, along with school skirt/trousers. They are appalling quality and only lasts barely a year before the elbows go through anyway.

McConkeysPlate · 11/09/2022 14:56

Every Friday ready for Monday.

cantheydothisreally · 11/09/2022 14:57

Every half term unless something has been spilt on them that cannot be sponged off 😉

My DC had wool blazers when in a Prep school. These needed dry cleaning.

The senior school blazers were polyester. One of the DC had the same blazers through 5 years. Despite half term of washing in the early years and weekly washing thereafter, it still looked fine by the end of GCSEs.

If they need a wash (smelly or got things spilled in them) then just wash them. Otherwise, I’d have thought that each school holiday (ie every half term) is fine. Unless they are dirt cheap and poor quality, they should stand up to it. I think ours were David Luke brand and cost about £60 new. Loads were also available in the school second hand shop having already had good wear, but being perfectly decent for another child to wear for a couple of years or longer.

I think the polyester ones are built for regular washing. Often they get used as goal posts at lunchtime, or get dragged about and abused. That material should be fine for regular washing.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 11/09/2022 14:57

I think, like a pp that you can smell when blazers are not washed regularly. They do need to be washed. Particularly if worn daily for weeks on end. I'd rather slightly faded and blotchy than stinky.

Waitingforever123 · 11/09/2022 14:58

Dry clean every half term. Sponge clean weekly as required.

optimisticdogmum · 11/09/2022 14:58

When i feel it needs it - febreeze weekly.

VelvetDancer · 11/09/2022 14:59

Every other week.

LollipopLady123 · 11/09/2022 15:00

My mum used to wash mine once in a blue moon. Seriously.

TrashPanda · 11/09/2022 15:00

DS has just started Y9 and still has the same blazer he started with in Y7. It gets washed anywhere from weekly to termly depending on how much paint he gets on it and how often he gets soaked from refusing to wear a coat. It doesn't look the smartest but he doesn't want to change over to the new one in the next size up.

Hothammock · 11/09/2022 15:01

Once every half term, unless there is an incident or it gets whiffy and then more often.

CandyFloss35 · 11/09/2022 15:03

Weekly on a Friday

moneybeingwasted · 11/09/2022 15:04

Dry cleaned once a year 🤦‍♀️

SushiSuave · 11/09/2022 15:09

I don't think my mum ever washed my blazer. Gross.

sheepdogdelight · 11/09/2022 15:18

Every half term, unless I forgot - when it was every term. Blazer lasted 5 years (I bought it big and DD never grew into it ...).

thenwhen · 11/09/2022 15:35

Basically never. Spot clean if needed. I washed one once and it was never the same again. I might dry clean it once a year. I don't find they get smelly (and yes, I do have teenage boys).

Fizbosshoes · 11/09/2022 15:43

At half term, possibly less frequently Blush
I've never noticed them being stinky. DD is in 6th form now and has 3 jackets she will wear, one is dry clean only not sure about the others.
DS is year 8 and doesn't even wear deodorant yet, but I'm anticipating that changing sometime soon!

ParkrunWithDog · 11/09/2022 15:46

Every Friday.

Changeismine · 11/09/2022 15:46

I washed the blazer every single week and it was lovely and fresh! Didn't warp/twist/fade or go saggy and/or baggy. I loved the fact that I could wash it weekly and it would be fresh every Monday.
