Hello everyone, here is a shiny new thread ready for DC’s results day tomorrow and a much needed hand hold for us nervous parents. 🥴🤪

Tomorrow is the culmination of an incredibly turbulent 2 year journey that our young people have had to navigate. Fraught with ups and downs. They have done us all proud!!

Here is a link to the previous thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4566030-current-year-11-2-more-weeks-of-exams?page=37&reply=119483572

DD has asked for her results to be kept private but they are fine, just so glad through this stage and she is working and about to start A levels.

Congratulations on all the amazing results and for getting through the exams.

So sorry for those who did not get what they wanted esp Teens DD

Bayleaf25 · 25/08/2022 14:16

@EngHOD Dd was just one mark off a 7 in English Lang, do you think this is worth asking for a review/remark??

Thanks

GingerPushkin · 25/08/2022 14:24

@EngHOD thanks for that. i've just looked up AQA grade boundary- he's 1 mark off a grade 5 for literature- so i'll def push for review. i was going to write to his english teacher- is that the right thing to do?

GingerPushkin · 25/08/2022 14:26

and thanks @Watapalava for explaining the "P"

PeapodBurgundy · 25/08/2022 14:27

FE lecturer here. For those who didn't manage to get the results needed for A-Levels, that doesn't mean the end of aspirations for university. There are more vocational courses than many people think which have UCAS points attached. It's also possible to do a foundation degree without UCAS points, so all is definitely not lost. I've spoken with a few disappointed teenagers today, but we've had a viable option (and in some cases several viable options) for all of them.

I am so very pleased and relieved about my Sons results. He lost two of his friendship group to suicide in 2021 within 3 months of each other. His mental health has suffered unimaginably and access to support has been difficult. Due to this he was only taking English, Maths and Science. He got a 1 in science (was expected) but managed to get a 3 in English and Maths despite being expected a 2.

He has made an application to join the army and his preferred choice was to join as a bricklayer which needed a level 3 in English and Maths, his other choices didn’t require any qualifications so to have a shot at his first choice is amazing.

I am so proud of his achievement as at one point all I wanted from him was to stay alive.

well done to all DC.. some fantastic results

Ahwombimbam · 25/08/2022 14:40

Our DS got five 5’s and two 4’s.
We are absolutely over the moon as the mocks were bloody terrible! Both 4’s were only 3-4 marks off a 5, so close.
Can anyone tell me what P2 means?

WilsonMilson · 25/08/2022 14:41

DS did so well, I’m just delighted.

He was 1 mark off an A* in English Lit. Is it worth an appeal or just let it go? He did so great anyway and I don’t want him to feel like nothing is ever enough, but one mark away seems so close.

Lots of our bright kids have scored badly on AQA eng language

Different exam board, but a bit of a language car crash for us too.

Lougle · 25/08/2022 14:45

DD1 got her results today, too. She has SEN and went to special school. She had a terrible year 9/10, as she was severely unwell and was admitted to hospital in January 2021, then didn't return to school until May, part-time, then went back full time in July of 2021 (year 10).
She got entry level 2 certificates in English and Maths, entry level 3 in performing arts, level 1 awards in science, hospitality, and skills in sports, and GCSE grade 1 in art.

We're so proud of her for plugging away despite her challenges.

TeenDivided · 25/08/2022 14:46

Well done @Lougle What is her next step?

Lougle · 25/08/2022 14:53

TeenDivided · 25/08/2022 14:46

Well done @Lougle What is her next step?

She'll go to a local college which has its own SEN department and do a life skills entry level 2 course. It's a great set up for her - 8 students and 4 staff.

LouisCatorze · 25/08/2022 14:53

Weren't the English language papers a bit tricky? DD seemed to think they were.

Oh that sounds good. DD did a L1 work based animal care last year, and this year will do L1 theory based animal care. After that the current plan is job or apprenticeship or Level 2 depending on how she gets on this year.

Newgirls · 25/08/2022 15:07

Hi the marks aren’t on the sheet dd has. Is it normal to ask the school?

she had all 9s apart from one 6 which is great but maybe a bit odd?

sorry to sound like a knob but not sure where else to ask

WhatNoWay · 25/08/2022 15:09

Congratulations to all parents and DCs who worked very hard for the last couple of years! Anyway, to everyone who looked forward to today, with or without trepidation. :-)

Here's my story. DD has achieved the required GSCE grades for her chosen A levels.

DD has a weird selection of A level subjects (in my opinion): Maths, Physics and English Literature. Question: do we leave her alone and let her carry on with them, or do we pick up all our might and try and steer her either towards all humanities or all sciences?? Tearing my hair out as worried she is neither here nor there with her choices. Thanks to all for a helpful opinion in advance.

@TeenDivided that's brilliant. I hope DD1 will be able to move on to level 1 in a year or two. It's a bit more of a scenic route, isn't it? We need to be very proud of our kids though - they work every bit as hard as the ones who bag the top grades.

Blueblell · 25/08/2022 15:12

My dd got 2 8’s and then mostly 7s so all good for his a level choices but got 5&6 in lang and lit when he was predicted 8’s in these. So was a bit surprised as he has always done well in English

prettymum · 25/08/2022 15:16

I am so absolutely proud how well my son did with his results despite the traumatic 6 months beforehand where my brother was in an induced coma with covid from last December and passed away night before exams started and with my dad passing away in Feb.
Despite all this, he managed 9 for maths, 8 computer science, English lang 8, Lit 6, Combined science 7.5, French 5, Geography 7 and RE 6.

This was with him going straight to funeral after one of the exams, dealing with aftermath and having to accept one of his biggest supporters was no longer here to push him to keep doing his best when he was lacking confidence . He put his head down and did his best for his uncle who will be so damn proud 😊

Physics and maths go well together

English and maths is fine too

depends what they might do at uni? Law? Business? Physics? Accountancy?

better to do the subjects that they’ll get good grades in and enjoy than something else?

MrsHamlet · 25/08/2022 15:27

For those asking about reviews, it's the exams officer you need to speak to.

Newgirls · 25/08/2022 15:28

Thank you

honkeytonkwoman38 · 25/08/2022 15:31

I'm very proud of my daughter. She developed panic disorder and agoraphobia after the second lockdown. Despite not being able to go to school for any of her gcse lessons she achieved an 8,8 in science and 6s in English, maths and art and a 7 in citizenship. The others she had to drop. She is going to do A levels in sciences with Kings InterHigh.

yes, same here at our school.

And the whole class are about 2 grades down in computing compared to predicted, and theyve been doing tons of old papers and mocks, with pretty strict marking. Not sure what board it was.
