@Akite I sympathise!
My dd has literally partied her way through half term so far. If I ask if she’s planning on doing anything she says I’m stressing her out.

Shes skydiving tomorrow so I guess won’t do much work… I’m hoping the weekend perhaps?

They have a few ‘big’ exams next week and I think her lack of revision is worrying her a bit but not enough to kick her into action.
the physics will be a challenge to say the least, she thinks she’s bombed the other 2 science papers so far 🙄

VegetablesAreMyFriends · 02/06/2022 00:48

Good to hear how everyone is doing.
I joined a few threads back but lurk mostly. Ds is doing some revision but not much. Another ADHD kid (borderline) who struggles with planning. Currently I am making plans and he is breaking them.

Will be so glad when this is over.

CornishGem1975 · 02/06/2022 07:41

My DD hasn't done masses and her dad decided to take her away so she's not done any for a few days now. I suspect she'll kick start herself into action this weekend - a bit like we were saying on here, she agrees she's loss momentum and wishes the exams had just continued over half term.

Rollergirl11 · 02/06/2022 08:16

Welcome to all the newcomers. 👋

@Akite hope your DD has/had a fab 16th. Glastonbury sounds awesome! DD is going to Truck Festival and Reading in the summer. She has no experience of camping thus far and is starting to dawn on her that she is going to have to erect a tent! 😬😂

Not huge amounts of revision happening here. She has definitely lost momentum. She says it’s like her brain can’t quite comprehend that she still has exams to go back to next week. She seems to think that lots are feeling the same but could just be her telling me that! I usually have to stop her from doing too much though so this is a first in this house.

Although I actually feel sick whenever I think about DS doing his GCSE’s in 2 years time. He has ADHD and struggles with the bare minimum homework. I genuinely don’t see how he’s going to organise himself to revise. So no doubt I will be heavily involved!

We are off to liverpool today to celebrate DH’s 50th birthday with friends and family. Hoping we don’t have a nightmare 6 hour journey ahead of us. You never can tell! 🤞🙏

FFF2022 · 02/06/2022 10:19

My two have also completely lost momentum. One is particularly focused on enjoying himself. Am going to try and get them to do some revision today as we are out this evening. Next week is a v heavy week re exams and am trying to say only a few more weeks but they are not listening. I thought they needed a break from exams but am not so sure now….

PugInTheHouse · 02/06/2022 10:43

Same here, I am not sure he's done anything so far this week and now he is working basically till Sunday night so won't have much time spare.

LouisCatorze · 02/06/2022 11:28

DD has lost momentum too. Really they could have done without the 10 day break.

StColumbofNavron · 02/06/2022 11:40

Just checking in to say hello. @Silkierabbit glad the treatment is almost over and Cornwall sounds lovely.

Hope all the covids are soon gone. I’ve just realised my passport is in a different name to my NHS certificate thing and am not stressed.

DS1 has done a bit, in no way sustained or planned and, you guessed it, Spanish. He has worked over the course of the year but he now seems to cram the night before. He said he will be working from today but he just came in to get breakfast. I know he can pull this off, my worry really is that A levels are harder and he might come unstuck.

Mostly catching up with washing, getting camp gear ready for DS2 who is going on school camp/practice DoE. Got a couple of coffees and breakfasts and seeing my folks.

Really interesting to hear those of you say your DCs have lost momentum. It is impossible to motivate my DD. She is borderline in a number of subjects and just doesn't seem to think she should need to revise. It's incredibly frustrating - she had a real chance to crack on over the half term but has done really very little. She gets cross when I try to help and says she will do it herself but then done nothing. She has ADHD so does need help with planning etc. but will not accept it. I'm dreading her disappointment when she doesn't get what she wants / needs in August.
Any thoughts of what might help (other than gin!) very much appreciated.

legosnowqueen · 02/06/2022 16:18

Another chipping in to lament the lost opportunities for revision, momentum has definitely slipped & DS has been quite moody as apparently 'all his mates' are have been meeting when he's been revising in the mornings. Our Ukrainian guests left today to visit family & friends in London for a few days so we have a peaceful house, hoping tomorrow & Sunday might be more productive (off to get prom shirt & shoes on Saturday).

MrsScrubbingbrush · 02/06/2022 17:24

My DDs appear to be revising but not m not sure how much is going in.

DD2 is making copious amounts of notes & DD1 is ploughing through a predicted maths exam paper, however when I had a look just now there were loads of gaps. I'm not sure if that means she's ok with those questions and doesn't need to go over them or if she has no idea how to do them 🤷🏻‍♀️I'm almost too scared to ask!

CornishGem1975 · 02/06/2022 17:47

No advice at all @scoobydo99 She sounds like my DS who will be taking his next year. He's borderline pass/fail but actually really bright just sodding lazy. Nothing motivates him. I'm sick of nagging at him.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 02/06/2022 18:39

DC has been revising really hard since Sunday - and they mentioned yesterday that the revision was now going to become targeted for the next exams coming up. Great, in theory, but actually I'm not sure how much is going on as they are holed up in their room most of the day. They're exhausted and although I'm helping with one of the subjects, with DH going through maths as and when they are asked, motivation is definitely waning. They honestly seem to have been revising forever!

salsamummy · 02/06/2022 18:45

My son has done a bit of revision and I had the maths tutor here first thing Tuesday, however feel there has been a loss of momentum. We had a couple of days away which I definitely needed as feel exhausted by life. lol He went for a walk today 9 miles as he has his Duke of Edinburgh Silver award at the end of the exams and needed to get him outside to up his vitamin D after covid the other week. He is back at school Sunday night so he will be having a few busy weeks and finishes school with a trip to Thorpe back. Roll on the end of the month. I am away on a course in London next week and have booked myself a nice place to stay. :-)

StColumbofNavron · 02/06/2022 20:23

Prob too much but I work in London @salsamummy if you fancy a coffee. Zero response needed just PM if you fancy.

I am up in Highgate Mon Friday but don't finish until 5.30pm__

FFF2022 · 03/06/2022 08:59

@scoobydo99 this is exactly the same with one of mine - he is borderline for the grades he needs for A Levels but doesn’t think he needs to do anymore revising - he really does. I keep telling him only 3 more weeks but to no avail. Am now thinking of bribery as a last resort. I just don’t want them to have the feeling on results day that if they worked a bit harder they would have the grades they needed. Also v aware there is only so much I can do.

Dancingbea · 03/06/2022 09:27

I had thought the half term was going to be a blessing in terms of getting on top of revision for next week but actually the momentum has absolutely faded and still so much to do. Like others my DS is ASD so if I am not micromanaging every moment it does not happen, and it getting harder and harder to get him engaged. It wasn’t so bad in the run up to the initial set.

scoobydo99 · 03/06/2022 11:19

It's so frustrating isn't it? I just feel I'm watching a car crash unfold. And she'll be so disappointed if she can't do what she wants at college and all her friends are moving on with their lives.

Bellini12 · 03/06/2022 11:45

Yes, defo lost momentum here; getting up late and lots of watching of Tik Tok!

Next week is a horrible one with 7 exams back to back but the revision has been minimal.

I do feel like they have been revising for month and months (especially when there was still a chance that exams could be cancelled again) with mocks and exams again in March. I think they are just saturated and fed up of it all. There is a feeling of just getting them over with now and accepting that she might not reach the grades that she did in her mocks.

LouisCatorze · 03/06/2022 12:44

I think it might have been prudent to make their double mocks average count towards a % (maybe a third?) of their final grade?

If our DC are representative of the wider cohort, it could well be that they all under perform because of testing overkill in Year 11?

Akite · 03/06/2022 13:01

I agree they've over-tested them. Mine did mocks in y10, 2x mocks in y11 and assessments in between. No wonder they are sick of it. My dd wants friends over tonight for a sleepover but I've insisted she has to get some revision done this afternoon in return.

shazshaz · 03/06/2022 14:47

I think we've had testing overkill here too. DD has completed the grand total of 2 hours revision over this half term. Oh well. I refuse to nag because I know it accomplishes nothing except extra stress for me. DD has 3 exams next week, including 2 on one day which is the first time that's happened.

I used to live on Hornsey Lane @salsamummy so Highgate/Crouch End bring back happy memories for me.

We're having a BBQ this afternoon - hopefully before the rain hits! I hope everyone is having a good bank holiday.

PaddingtonPaddington · 03/06/2022 18:59

Revision slow here too. DS was ill over last weekend so no revision done then but has managed a little revision each day since Monday. I think like others the absence of an impending exam has relaxed the immediate pressure and motivation for revision. However DS does have 6 exams next week so needs to put the effort in but like others I don’t want to nag!

BarnacleB · 03/06/2022 20:37

DD's revision mojo got up and left about 3 days ago. A maths and english revision morning in school this past Monday and Tuesday, and i don't think i have seen any revision being done since then.

I feel like taking a hammer to her phone and eating my own body weight in Lindt Balls.
