Do all your DCs still have the covid app? Our year 12s have been pinging away all week... To be honest, I think a fair few are fibbing.

Monkey2001 · 13/07/2021 18:57

We have all disabled contact tracing in the app because although we believe in the idea, we don't trust the delivery. We have no idea when or where contacts were, could be through a wall or somebody on a bus 3 rows away with a mask. I am not prepared to agree to house arrest if I don't know the basis on which it is imposed! I am advising friends to do the same, but we are still avoiding being unmasked indoors with people we don't know.

Yes, I am going to so we can go to Birmingham and not get pinged afterwards.

EverythingDelegated · 13/07/2021 19:01

Exactly the same here Monkey - contact tracing off and I'm deleting checkins if I know I wasn't near anybody apart from family or friends whilst inside. Still wearing masks indoors though apart from when eating.

Zandathepanda · 13/07/2021 19:02

Dd says she knows of year 12 ignoring pings. I thought it would be the opposite but it appears some of them can’t stand isolating.

Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 19:03

I think ours are saying they have been pinged when they haven't. They see it as a victimless crime.

estherfrewen · 13/07/2021 19:16

@Monkey2001 - well done to your DS!

20newnames · 13/07/2021 19:28

Well done to @Monkey2001's DS!!

20newnames · 13/07/2021 19:31

Got DS's report with his mock results and UCAS prediction grades today.

He was really annoyed as the report said he got a B for his Maths Mock, when he got an A. His prediction is an A which has annoyed him. His other predictions are A*s though so he has enough in the predictions to satisfy any of the requirements for courses, obviously he needs to actually get them in real life but it's good for now.

Some cases in DS's school but not many in his year so far.

Fiddlersgreen · 13/07/2021 19:31

@Monkey2001 well done to your DS! Surprised at 38 in a 30 only being a minor though! 😂

Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 19:33

I failed one of my many tests Blush for 5 minors.Controversial.

EwwSprouts · 13/07/2021 20:26

@Monkey2001 Great to see another pass.

Secondary near work has three whole years out. Primary has completely closed.

Oblomov21 · 13/07/2021 20:28

Well done Monkey ds.

Orangecinnamon21 · 13/07/2021 20:36

We are off to Wales next Fri. I may have turned contract tracing off too. In other news going to see Retired Greyhounds next week ! Hopefully we can bring one home before end of summer.
Well done to your son @Monkey2001!

SandyBayley · 13/07/2021 20:53

Great work mini @Monkey2001 but I can't believe you can pass and speed 😮

FedNlanders · 13/07/2021 21:25

Hi all, can u join. Ds is year 12 but seems to have got d grades in mocks and still has to pass maths. Feel so bad for him. He works so hard.

KingscoteStaff · 13/07/2021 21:38

Good job Monkey’s boy!

You’re very welcome @FedNlanders. What is your DS hoping to do next?

EverythingDelegated · 13/07/2021 22:34

@Orangecinnamon21 how exciting!. My friend adopted a retired greyhound about 10 years ago, sadly passed away now but she was gorgeous and fitted into their family perfectly. We are hoping to venture into dog ownership in the next 6 months too.

@FedNlanders welcome, were the grades lower than he was expecting? It's hard having maths or English still hanging over too.

Orangecinnamon21 · 13/07/2021 22:46

Thanks @everythingdelegated lots of people say the same ! They are very relaxed, couch potatoes apparently.

NCTDN · 14/07/2021 06:39

I can't get to grips with things reading next week looking at how many schools are closing. Where in the country is everybody? Dd finished a week ago so had avoided a lot of this.

MirandaWest · 14/07/2021 07:00

We’re in York - think other schools here are still open

Monkey2001 · 14/07/2021 07:27

We are in Bristol, most state schools breaking up 21st July. I don't know whether they will be allowed to tell any bubbles to isolate next week, I think they won't officially.

I think he got C in politics and English. But failed his GCSE maths retake and got an E in History. He has autism and he really works his socks off but im just at a loss where to go next. Its such a shame as he works hard and is just totally disheartened by it all.

EverythingDelegated · 14/07/2021 08:00

Oh, that does sound hard, mine has autism too, unfortunately the way maths questions are written seems to make it hard for anyone with such conditions to understand the question, even if they could actually do the calculations. Is he at school or college? Have you had any discussions with them?

Monkey2001 · 14/07/2021 08:22

@FedNlanders some schools mark very harshly and have excessively high grade boundaries - at our school you need 90% in maths to get A, although last time there was a real exam, an A was about 72%, so they might be pessimistic grades.

You need to talk to school, but would he be willing to re-do Y12? It has been such a disrupted year, so repeating the year to consolidate could work for him.
