Happy belated birthday to your DD Orange. Sounds like it was a wonderful day out!

ealingwestmum · 11/07/2021 17:48

I can imagine the busy-ness didn’t feel comfortable right now, but on balance, central London had/has suffered so much more than its suburbs. It really had been like a ghost town in the main, so I’m pleased to hear it is getting some traffic back again, having taken such a big hit.

Seeline · 11/07/2021 18:23

piccolo - sure, but I don't know much I'm afraid. They don't exist for all courses, but where they do they have lower entry requirements than the standard degree. If you pass, you can then continue to the first year of the degree. Check the individual unis for the course you are interested in - they will normally indicate if a foundation year is available. The downside is obviously an extra year at uni.

Monkey2001 · 11/07/2021 19:23

@Alsoplayspiccolo I have no words of wisdom, but well done to her for speaking up. No need to feel under pressure to make university decisions yet. The majority of courses seen to end up in Clearing anyway - you could do in to see how many of the courses which might be relevant are there. Although a foundation year means an extra year of fees/loan, remember that only 15% students are likely to pay back their 3 year loan, so an extra year is almost always "free money" and should not affect a decision.

@Orangecinnamon21 Happy birthday to DD 🎉🍰 that is a better birthday treat than most of us have managed this year, so well done!

We got the email of doom for DD in year 10 today - she’s a close contact of someone who’s tested positive for Covid and so has to isolate. Should have been her singing exam tomorrow Sad.

DS is working at a local pub tonight - his main interest in the football is that he has England in a sweepstake with his friends Grin

icanbewhatiwant · 11/07/2021 20:46

@Orangecinnamon21 yes I can imagine it felt strange with all the people. When Ds had his driving lesson in Norwich I went for a walk into the city. I felt really uncomfortable with all the people. I've been used to staying around our village and not going far. I only work with 2 others. I have been online food shopping for a long time. So it felt quite strange. I guess I'll have to get used to it again.

icanbewhatiwant · 11/07/2021 20:48

@Orangecinnamon21 I forgot to say happy birthday to your dd too. The voices raised on the football and I got distracted. Not quite sure why I'm watching...I don't like football.

Orangecinnamon21 · 11/07/2021 20:53

Thanks for the birthday wishes a great day ! I'm not sure how I feel about seeing so many ...nervous and a bit happy ..everyone was having such a great time...a bit of life !

Just hope and pray it doesn't lead to anything.

Come on England !

Thank you to whoever posted on here re vaccinations. I've been told that if 17 years old turn up, the National protocol covers them so they can have the vaccine SmileThey won't be turned away.

Oooh, did not realise it was official. Might try taking DS to our hub and see what happens. Does anyone know whether all the hubs are doing walk in or whether you have to book. I could not book for a 17 year old.

Sorry to hear that Piccolo. Well done her for speaking up.

crazycrofter · 12/07/2021 13:09

@Alsoplayspiccolo I'm sorry to hear what your dd has been through, but it was right (and brave) of her to speak up and hopefully she's prevented others being hurt in future.

We've just had confirmation from dd's school that the staggered starts will no longer apply from September. She'll have to get the 7.33 train instead of the 8.03! I'm not looking forward to that....

20newnames · 12/07/2021 14:24

Interested to see how you get on taking your 17yo to a hub @Monkey2001. Can't see any sign they will let us do that here yet.

crazycrofter · 12/07/2021 14:28

@PaddingtonPaddington DD’s provisional licence has just arrived!

20newnames · 12/07/2021 14:33

@crazycrofter - fantastic news!

icanbewhatiwant · 12/07/2021 14:33

@crazycrofter I was speaking to a mum who's dd sent off in feb for provisional. Apparently they'd done something wrong so had to send something else in a few weeks later. But still not received it. That's a long time ago!

Zandathepanda · 12/07/2021 14:59

Question for you all: if nearly half the year group are isolating and some of the teachers (therefore half the lessons are ‘go to the IT suite and do set project work’) and there was a big Year12 indoor football watching party going on last night (unsurprisingly enough not on social media!), is it really worth going in for the next 2 weeks for my CV pupil? The school aren’t setting online live lessons as such. Rates here are only about 1 in 180 at the moment but that’s amongst the general population.
I have a feeling this is what autumn term is going to be like, but without the social media secrecy, as there’s no official isolation.

Oblomov21 · 12/07/2021 15:16

Finally Crazy Hmm

Oblomov21 · 12/07/2021 15:17

No Zanda.

Piggywaspushed · 12/07/2021 15:20

Nightmare at my school today. Lots of year 12s cba because of football so they stayed at home, and it feels like all the rest were pinged by the blessed app!!

I'd keep mine at home zanda...

My school still has nearly two weeks to go and I can't see how we are going to get there!!

PaddingtonPaddington · 12/07/2021 15:22

@crazycrofter fantastic news!! Hopefully that means DDs will be here soon too, fingers crossed.

@Alsoplayspiccolo Sorry to hear about what your DD has been through. Hopefully the summer holiday will be what she needs to have a break from it all

@Orangecinnamon21 happy birthday to your DD.

DD not 17 till next month so will be a while before she can get the vaccine.

Awaiting report and exam results this week. DD did one of her A level drama recordings last week and is working hard on the write up that goes with it (think it counts as 30% of final mark). She is very much in need of the end of term and some time off.

Zandathepanda · 12/07/2021 15:26

Dd has just sent me this link Grin:

crazycrofter · 12/07/2021 15:36

Oh that’s interesting. Where is this secret consultation? I assume we can comment!

Piggywaspushed · 12/07/2021 16:09

They never learn do they? How could they not have done this weeks ago??
