My twins provisional license took a week! I was expecting it to take months after this thread 🤷🏼.

MirandaWest · 12/07/2021 18:27

Thank you for that - will have a good look.

MirandaWest · 12/07/2021 18:28

Children’s school has shut until the end of term (23rd) apart from key workers children.
28 positive tests since Friday with 11 of them today.

PaddingtonPaddington · 12/07/2021 22:07

@Fferny1 If you need to provide any additional documentation like a passport photo etc it’s proving to be a very long wait. I assume you were able to link with a current passport so was all completed electronically. Great news for your DTs

crazycrofter · 12/07/2021 23:04

Year 12 is now closed at DD’s school so that’s it for the year (although she will have some teams lessons I think). Ds has just finished his week off and goes back tomorrow- hopefully for his last four days! What a year..,

mummabear74 · 12/07/2021 23:22

@PaddingtonPaddington @Fferny1 we're still waiting since May for DDs provisional. Applied online with passport but said they needed further information and sent form asking for photo. Completed and sent back mid-May and to date the tracker is still showing as awaiting return of form. DD birthday not until mid-August but we were hoping to book a few lessons in the summer holidays.

Monkey2001 · 12/07/2021 23:50

@MirandaWest how annoying for your DD that she can't to do singing exam. Will she do it later or just miss it?

I can't get my head around the spread of Covid and what is going to happen next week when there are no more rules

Monkey I can’t get my head round it either. I don’t see how it’s going to work in big secondary schools who will always have children who are vulnerable eg. Cancer treatment, badly asthmatic, neuro conditions. Also vulnerable parents with the same. Many pupils won’t test nor wear masks. And presumably siblings of positive cases come in as normal. So is the government leaving it to vulnerable children to risk assess when it’s too dangerous by children trying to find off whose ill and why? My Dd wouldn’t want to go in if we tested positive as she sits next to a boy whose dad is vulnerable and a girl whose younger sister is recovering from cancer. She would feel awful if she gave it to one of them. Dd is also vulnerable so no idea what’s going to happen for Year 13. I know we have the ‘please let us know if you have chickenpox because we have immuno compromised children’ letters regularly but the scale of covid is another level. And for A Level, where you don’t have supply at this level, how’s that going to work if their teachers are off sick for weeks?

crazycrofter · 13/07/2021 08:01

@mummabear74 we sent off the photo the second week of May I think, so yours shouldn’t be long.

I can’t imagine how it’s going to work either. I just hope this wave passes quickly. Sorry for those of you with vulnerable children or other considerations, it must be such a worry.

MirandaWest · 13/07/2021 08:42

@Monkey2001 she may be able to do it next Monday (albeit 40 miles away but that would be all right). Assuming she can stop isolating then and her singing teacher is able to go then as well!

Best of luck to her !

Personal Statement draft one done... The character limit is so - well- limiting!

SandyBayley · 13/07/2021 16:05

We have draft 1 of PS done as well @Piggywaspushed. UCAT prep is steady. DD is going to Bristol for an outing on Friday to get a feel for it.

stoneysongs · 13/07/2021 16:12

Wow, well done to the PS writers. The deadline for DS's first draft is 8 October so I will have my work cut out to get him to do it any time before 7th.

SandyBayley · 13/07/2021 16:16

We're early @singingstones because DD is already applying to Oxford for Medicine - both necessitate early submission.

It was quite helpful to focus her mind on what she's already done and what she needs to do over the summer (bit of work experience with a GP and a couple of books to read).

Orangecinnamon21 · 13/07/2021 16:21

My DN has had a year out doing work experience in a local primary, they have all been sent home today because of covid. The leaver's assembly won't happen and the year six class won't get their presents from him. Devastating for them all. Feel so sad for him, he has really enjoyed his year working with them all

Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 16:37

Over half of year 12 out at my school. God knows what they have all been doing...

estherfrewen · 13/07/2021 17:43

Just had email to say Year 12 online now until end of term next Friday. DS not happy

Zandathepanda · 13/07/2021 18:02

Over 400 isolating and 30 teachers off. Doubling up of classes. When’s the school allowed to close?!

Piggywaspushed · 13/07/2021 18:03

That's mad zanda. Not even any mass testing?

Zandathepanda · 13/07/2021 18:05

Oh and next term it will be staggered starts for year groups again. Each year group has to take 2 lateral flows before they are ‘let in’. But then it’s up to them.

Zandathepanda · 13/07/2021 18:07

No apparently the teachers are off for a mixture of reasons including looking after their own kids isolating and other illnesses as well as covid.

Zandathepanda · 13/07/2021 18:18

Dd went in in a mask. It’s an awful atmosphere in school. Everyone is on tender hooks. Teachers are trying but they are shattered. I think in the next few days we’ll get all the positives from the football get togethers. And parents taking kids out because they don’t want to isolate for holidays.

MirandaWest · 13/07/2021 18:43

I feel quite glad that DCs school has closed - they were up to 600 isolating and 35 teachers off.

Monkey2001 · 13/07/2021 18:46

Amidst all the covid idiocy, I am pleased to say DS1 passed his driving test. 10 minors, including one going at 38 mph in a 30 zone (🤨), but he passed. I have a theory that they are being a bit less strict than usual because they need to clear the backlog.

Expecting grade sheet for DS2 tomorrow, then assuming they will be sent home to isolate again before the week is up.......
